Michael John @32. Do you really think that something like that would be allowed to happen? Do you really believe that NATO would wipe out the Serbian army?

Where on earth do you get such information from? I'd like to read something from that source of yours.

Any attempt to wipe out the Serbian army would be met with fierce resistance from Russia I think. China would not sit back and watch this massacre.
Do you still not get it? Serbia has more countries on her side than Albania does. It would be WW3 for god's sake.
This could only happen in your dreams. You have some very bad dreams my friend.

If WW3 starts from this, I can assure you that Serbia is not alone. Maybe you should stop thinking out loud.

Steve,

Any attempt by the Serbian Army to re-enter Kosova is a moot point since it would lead to the obliteration of the Serb military and paramilitary by NATO.

What did actually serbian army expect, maybe if they are nice to KFOR, somehow KFOR will let them back in Kosovo so they can pick up where they left in 1999, it was never kosovars choice for them to leave, they made their own luck, lets not forget thet was kosovars army too, they served loyally on it as well as everyone else, but they decided to follow serbian nationalist propaganda...
They have no chance of ever stepping a foot in Kosovar soil, Ever!!!!

peace to you serbs all you need it..

I hope you have bread to eat.Kosovo will die from hunger.10 years went...nothing has changed. In the same time in Serbia there are higher salaries, people are spending money like mad even most of them will say they don't have money but they have money to spend on stupid unnecessary things :) just look at the cars and clothes :| ...many abroad brands opened their offices here.Something to think about. What about Kosovo?Be sure that no country entered the EU just like that. You need to be rich to play with the rich.Or have something they need.Obviously you have. When they take that, you can say goodbye to the future.

Steve,

I'm so pleased that you have your priorities squared away. I wouldn't want you to let studies get in the way of your time-consuming student social life. And I'm pleased that you're aiming for a solid 2.2 or a 2.1.

If you want to get an honours you have to go that extra mile. Do something different, write something original and capture the interest of your supervisor.

I doubt very much that your course supervisors will get overly excited about re-reading for the umpteenth time regurgitated stratfor and FAS nonsense spiced up with the odd unreferenced gossip sent on the internet.

As a small hint, FAS and stratfor's analysis of the Balkans has about as much practical merit (and accuracy) as that offerend by one of your campus publicans. Save yourself the bother of reading them, just ask the barman what his opinion is on Kosovo! It won't be any less accurate or valid. Janes is slightly better, but barely so.

For a modest contribution to my beer fund, I'll gladly demonstrate the utter uselessness of their offerings.

Good luck!

it´s interesting to see that the K-albnians here are ( on a regular basis ) bringing up things that they do not have a clue of

for example, just like "history" or to be more specific: their "illyrian ancestry"... or "DNA" ...

perhaps they have watched too many CIS-episodes and believe that DNA means some secret magic-power which allows them to verbalize their desperate fantasies...

guys, you have nothing to do with the illyrians, and you will never be in possession of nuclear weapons. if some state in the region should ever get some, it certainly won´t be Albania... that´s something you can count on.

The writing has been on the wall since 1999, and it should come as no surprise to anyone as to the outcome that we find ourselves in today. Serbia lost Kosovo when it revoked the little autonomy that it once had, its only been a matter of time and now the time has come, Kosovo is Independent and dont blame anyone for that except your voters who supported the radical politicians and led them blindly in all the numerous wars that they waged on all the various ethnic groups in the Ex Yugo State,.

Willie Garvin

Steve,

If you can't be bothered to learn Serbian (cyrillic or latin script) then you clearly are not that bothered about producing anything reasonably original or worthy of merit.

Surely by now you have realised that internet sources offer nothing but biased drivel that has no place in a serious academic study. How are you going to ascertain whether information sent to you (the facts and figures you ask for) bear any relation to reality?

I have spent several years studying the military, the politics, civil-military relations and SSR in the region. If you make a generous donation to my beer fund, I'm will be only too happy to provide you with all you need - fully referenced, sourced and academically scrutinised to UK post-graduate (and published) standards.

Steve

pre 15 godina

Thanks Willie Garvin

So now I should go and enrol in a Serbian class to learn a language and be able to read literature of a technical nature? Maybe I can do it on weekends in my spare time between study and work.

The last time I checked Jane's Intelligence/Defence review, FAS.org, Stratfor.com were online sources. I already know of these and was hoping I could get some extra recommendations and not wikpedia sources.

I don't think you need anymore money for your beer fund.If that's coming from a postgrad maybe I should quit before I get to involved in my studies.

Thanks bt I'll find another way.

DNA, i wonder where they found DNA for the illyrians? If they were almost wiped out by the romans then they must have been assemulated into either the Macedonian/Greeks or the Slavs. Most the the albanians were christians before the Turks came and they switch to the muslim faith to be exempt from taxes. So you must also find DNA from Bulgarins, Turks and other invaders who have dominated this area over the many thousands of years.

Noel Malcolm hardly rates as a self-respecting historian. I've taken some courses in IR and politics that had a heavy focus on the Balkans and Kosovo in particular, and Noel Malcolm was not in any of the prescribed readings.

As far for Mr Ponos,he did the right thing,he should be awarded from Serbian taks headquarters, why wasting plane tcket like Jeremic does, there's no point going there when you know that you are going to walk out of the meeting anyway.

"Ponos cancels meeting with KFOR"

Is this really a 'news' story deserving of a headline? No it's a complete non-story.

Ponos has been ordered by his political patrons (Tadic and the DS) to make some stong noises to the press that they are holding firm on Kosovo status. In reality, behind the scenes, VS and KFOR go about business as normal.

The media is being manipulated, and they can't even see it.

If there is a story to be told, then I suggest B92 dispatch a truely investigative journalist to uncover whether this was all agreed in advance between the DS and NATO/EU.

What a lot of nonsense! The talks were a non starter because the Albanian party had been told by the US that independence was the pre-determined outcome.

If you look at how few meetings were actually held by Ahtissari and who attended from both sides it is clear that this was no serious attempt to find a compromise.

Any attempt by the Serbian Army to re-enter Kosova is a moot point since it would lead to the obliteration of the Serb military and paramilitary by NATO.

As a small hint, FAS and stratfor's analysis of the Balkans has about as much practical merit (and accuracy) as that offerend by one of your campus publicans.

Only when the international community holds the Serbs accountable and gets serious with an appropriate penalty, can we see a change. I strongly recommend reimposing sanctions on Serbia until she admits guilt, apologizes and pays restitution to all of the victims and terminates their Greater Serbia campaign by liberating all minorities under occupation.

"....the formation of the so-called Kosovo security forces represents implementation of the Ahtisaari Plan that Serbia has rejected,” the lieutenant-general pointed out.

Serbia has rejected all the offers made by international mediators. Now it is the time to say "enough is enough" and move on and agree to disagree!
Just a reminder to the Serbian commentators that President Ahtisari spend a lot of time to get both parties (Serbs and Kosovar Albanians) to a possible compromise but we all know the outcome!

(Kate, 14 June 2008 14:24)

You are right at some point there but we have to agree on something. I have said to you in the past and I have been proved right. When it comes to the Status of Kosova there would be no compromise between Kosova and Serbia. Let's agree on that.
Do you think status quo is bearable and acceptable for a long time. Can you force two parties to compromise especially when you are talking to the very MAIN ISSUE.
That is why President Ahtisari was brought in to help out. The Serbian proposols during talks would have been valid should there not have been a war in Kosova which fortunately for me and unfortunately for you Serbia lost.

Vuksan

It is hard for me to understand why Albanians need another state. They have their state-Albania. The only thing they achieved in more than 50 years of independence was more bunkers per capita than in any other state in the world. Somehow, I doubt that Europe needs bunkers.

Jovan

pre 15 godina

very good.

while our ( naive ) albanian friends have nothing else to do than to write cynical comments or jokes about serious incidents like the ( very likely ) albanian attacks on UNMIK-personnel and the break-up of VS and KFOR officials...,

the VS is ready and prepared for all eventualities.

I don´t think the US are ready and prepared to fight in the Balkans AND Iran at the same time.

and all our albanian entertainers here are capable of, is writing about skyscrapers in Kosovo and highways to the albanian coast...

how naive. oh, wait! ...aren´t you the descendants of the illyrians? :)

come on, give us all some lectures on that sci-fi-topic!

as long as you live in your fantasy-world, you hopefully won´t attack innocent civilians and churches...

KV

pre 15 godina

Jovan, you are out of touch with reality. It is under the interest of the Serbian "army" to keep contact with KFOR not the other way around. Every time that Serbia will try to send its' army to Kosovo under Resolution 1244 KFOR will point quickly at these immature actions (not showing at planned meetings) and say that they are not serious and have the motion dismissed.

One last point, Kosova's unemployment is at 43% with Serbian majority areas withholding unemployment as high as 80%; thanks to Serbian double pay, the Kosovar serb minority have no reason to work for so instead leisure and be lazy.

Good day.

@KV

Dude, your "facts" are even worse than your Grammar.

The one thing, which most of the Albanians posting here share is utter disregard for the Grammar.

I guess, it is a true reflection of education in Albania and more lately "Kosova." And, why do you guys use the word "Kosova" when nobody else does?

legal

pre 15 godina

Come on guys get ocer it!

Kate

pre 15 godina

EA: "Just a reminder to the Serbian commentators that President Ahtisari spend a lot of time to get both parties (Serbs and Kosovar Albanians) to a possible compromise."

What a lot of nonsense! The talks were a non starter because the Albanian party had been told by the US that independence was the pre-determined outcome.

If you look at how few meetings were actually held by Ahtissari and who attended from both sides it is clear that this was no serious attempt to find a compromise.

The Serbian side did actually bring various proposals to the table, but they fell totally on deaf ears because the Kosovo Albanians would accept nothing short of independence.

Joe

pre 15 godina

The albanians are right that it seams that no one cares what Serbia is saying. There is only one question. If Serbia doesn't recognize Kosovo in the future, than who is going to pay for NATO to stay in Kosovo? Kosovo economy doesn't exist, its 2 million people are 70% unemployed. There is no country that can survive in such conditions...

Ronald

pre 15 godina

The illyrians where almost wiped out by the romans, they do not exist anymore, and the albanians are not the descendents of the illyrians (they wish).

No selfrespecting historian would even consider the albanians as descendents off the illyrians as the commonly agree that the illyrians merged into the greek society after they where almost wiped out by the romans.

Al,

Noel Malcolm hardly rates as a self-respecting historian. I've taken some courses in IR and politics that had a heavy focus on the Balkans and Kosovo in particular, and Noel Malcolm was not in any of the prescribed readings.
I have also heard he is on the Albanian payroll in the UK but I'm not sure if that is a rumour. If it is true than independent scholarly research has been compromised and not worth mentioning. Can anyone else shed some light on this?

Willie Garvin

Steve,

If you can't be bothered to learn Serbian (cyrillic or latin script) then you clearly are not that bothered about producing anything reasonably original or worthy of merit.

Surely by now you have realised that internet sources offer nothing but biased drivel that has no place in a serious academic study. How are you going to ascertain whether information sent to you (the facts and figures you ask for) bear any relation to reality?

I have spent several years studying the military, the politics, civil-military relations and SSR in the region. If you make a generous donation to my beer fund, I'm will be only too happy to provide you with all you need - fully referenced, sourced and academically scrutinised to UK post-graduate (and published) standards.

...given that you ( the albanian writers in general, not you personally, of course ) are talking nonsense about skyscrapers in "kosova", highways and even the first man on the moon being an Albanian... I really ask myself WHO is actually lacking "touch with reality" or let´s call it seriousness!?

it´s so interesting what they are telling you in those yellow-press-pamphlets down there in Pristina, and what you are really believing - instead of using your heads and reading some serious books.

but, that´s something we will have to wait for another generation I guess. :)

and what for heaven´s sake has the unomployment to do with the VS breaking off with KFOR???

who´s lost touch to reality?

oh, I agree with Vuksan, it´s catching one´s eye that most Albanians here indeed do not write correct english...

but that´s okay, the serbian secret service prevented you from learning it properly, right? :)

it´s like with the Germans after WWII - they had to learn, that they are not the top of the evolution.

with you it´s qute the same: you will have to learn that you are not the descendants of the illyrians, no matter how hard you wish...

and of course with a rising educational-level, you will start respecting international law of course... and ta-daaaaaaa: do you remember? there is still UNSC 1244...

but I think that we won´t have to wait that long... I think you will have to adjust yourselves to the reality much more sooner that you would believe!

let´s just see what future brings! :)

good night!

I'm interested to know what kind of capabilities/plans etc the Serbian army and police have wih regard to re-establishing itself in Kosovo. I'm an u/g studying strategic studies and have dealt with course material dealing with the 1999 NATO bombing of Yugoslvia. MAterial is hard to find as its mostly in the past and I'm not about to learn cyrillic. Can anyone put me onto some good sites. I'm interested in facts and figures not emotion or who is right and who is wrong.

So you must also find DNA from Bulgarins, Turks and other invaders who have dominated this area over the many thousands of years.

it´s interesting to see that the K-albnians here are ( on a regular basis ) bringing up things that they do not have a clue of

for example, just like "history" or to be more specific: their "illyrian ancestry"... or "DNA" ...

perhaps they have watched too many CIS-episodes and believe that DNA means some secret magic-power which allows them to verbalize their desperate fantasies...

guys, you have nothing to do with the illyrians, and you will never be in possession of nuclear weapons. if some state in the region should ever get some, it certainly won´t be Albania... that´s something you can count on.
