Ida so I'm callous, what makes you so confident that he gives to charity, if you know?

He has a reputation, Kusturica has also spoken about it, as being tight with his money. I've also heard how he is described by some of his neighbours. No he doesn't mix with mere mortals.

What you are suggesting with the point about music is that the theft of music is somehow ok. I don't agree. Nor do I think that you know how this impacts on other artists.

I think that in the week when Saban Bajramovic died, essentially due to poverty, that your sympathy should be directed elsewhere.

you people who have commented here need to seriously take stock of your words or else seek medical help. Irrespective of how he has gone about his career such comments are crass, churlish ( go check a dictionary) and childish to risk a tautology. Go and have a long good look at yourself as we say in Glasgow. Hope his injuries are not serious.

"I'm not too cut up about this really. Bregovic is just not a very nice man. The kind of rich man who never gives to charity on some kind of supposed principle."

That's callous. How can you be 100% positive he never gives to charity or those in need when many people do this quietly and without fanfare?

In addition he spreads goodwill around the world.

And if he does use Roma and folk music in his arrangements and puts his own touch on it - who is he hurting? What was happening BEFORE he used this music? Did he cause them loss of venue or business because he started using Serbian and Roma tunes? Were they making greater profit off the music before he came to the scene but then no one wanted to hear/hire them anymore because of his music? I think not.

He popularized the music tunes and made them known outside its relatively small sphere/s. He most likely increased the popularity of the Balkan and Serbian Roma.

I find it interesting that the same people (Brits, for example) who blame non-Roma for playing some Roma tunes ignore the plight of the Roma who'd been ethnically cleansed in Kosovo or who stayed and lived in unhealthy polluted environment in camps in Kosovo supervised, but not genuinely helped, by NATO/UN/international community of folks from Britain, U.S., etc.

He needs to gain international recognition for stealing all the gypsy songs and making them his own.

I hope he feels better.
