Princip the fact that you are showing me that there is more than one opinion voiced publicly within a party is a positive for me. I am not much of an admirer of Zivkovic but he has earned himself the status of a dissenter in DS. There should be more dissent in each party, less autocratic rule.

As to Zivkovic's point that there had never been any idea concerning SPS there are two words Bane Ivkovic. Besides Djindjic would have dealt with SPS at this stage because Djindjic would have recognised that a SRS/DSS led coalition is a worse option for Serbia. If the extreme element of LDP recognise this, its obvious that Djindjic would have concurred.

Drug I understand you being disappointed in the election results when SRS finished almost 9 points behind the DS coalition. What I don't understand is you taking it personally.
If any country has the right to feel personally upset it is Serbia because when push came to shove the Russians let Serbia down. Now, after we give you NIS for a cut price you say its not good enough that we vote for who we want to vote for. We apparently must vote for a pro Russian candidate and choose Russia over the EU / US. To top it all off you are saying farewell - meaning that you never cared about Serbia in the first place.

Perhaps you might want to think about your own conduct before you lecture Serbians on their democratic right to choose their own destiny.

All Russians who follow the events in Serbia are very dissapointed and take it very personal. Both Presidentials and the Parliametals showed that in general Serbs are not that close to us we щтсу hoped to. The only one openly pro-Russian party received 28% of the votes.

It is very sad for the Russians and very dangerous for the Serbs who are losing the only real ally with absolutely no chances to obtain new ones. Very soon the Serbs will realize the mistake they made. But the Russians will no more be so open for you. Middle of the Road policy was once good for Yugoslavia but now you have to stick to one of the two banks.

Evidently next week I shall say good bye to B92 and in my mind there will remain only one figure that every forth Serb loves Russia , trusts Russia and like us believes in Russia's future more than in the future of EU.

P.S. Nikolic is the most noble man and the pride of Serbia !

why should SPS be punished for something which was caused by Kostunica by his irrational behaving after the elections?

and who can say, that the base of SRS will exist forever? all these kafkaesque speculations are worthless - constructive solutions for the future of Serbia are needed now. SPS, JS and PUPS - all these parties represent parts of the population which should not be excluded or responsibility for the country. their mandates or worth the same like these of SRS or DSS/NS. it is worth to risk a new combination with motivated partners. era of walking was not a glorious one, is'nt it?

Bganon,
it is more than possible that the SPS will loose their support base, it is more than likely. A new SPS support base based on SPS successes in A DS government is unlikely, If the DS no longer require the SPS in the next election, they will dump them and voters will chose the better established party.

The alternative is not better for the SPS, if the SPS joins the Radical /DSS/NS government, its support base will be happy today but the Radicals/DSS/NS may take over their support base at future elections.

On May 12, the SPS was in an enviable position, now they are really in a pressure cooker. If the SPS refuse both coalitions and cause new elections, this will infuriate absolutely everyone

So the game is up. I always expected Nikolic to be the first one to tell us what will happen.

Now he is already looking to being in opposition and to the next election whilst hoping that this government may collapse. It is possible that SPS will lose voters, but it also depends of how they are projected in government. If they have success (and DS will be willing to give them credit) it may offset the unpopularity among supporters of going with the DS led government.

Bganon,

politics is politics and it works in very strange ways.

Nikolic will be wise to keep the door open to SPS-PUPS-JS who can go talk to the 6/7 parties that will be required to form a government alternative to the SRS-DSS-NS 3 party group they are still officially in talks with and understand the full complexity of such a possible government with 4 more further partners.

That said I am sure SPS leader Dacic is only too aware that Nikolic is merely remining him of what Former DS PM Zivkovic has already said;
http://xs4.b92.net/eng/news/your_comment.php?nav_id=50994
"“At the next elections, ...some younger people who voted for the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) will realize that Europe is the future, and they will change sides.”

Živković said that the SPS’s current position, where it was choosing which coalition to join, was the result of a coincidence as, according to him, they do not have the democratic capacity to help Serbia enter the EU any quicker.

He said that during Zoran Đinđić’s leadership of the DS, there had never been “any such stupid idea as to form a government with the SPS.” "

Clearly any talks between SPS-PSP-JS and the 6/7 party alternative to SRS-DSS-NS will clarify such DS sentiments and at least now we all know this will have to be concluded within 90 days thankfully at least!!!

If I were mr. Nikolic I wouldn't be so confident. He had a good chance to govern and all we saw was fighting about the SAA - allthough even the SRS agrees that most probably it is a good thing - and condoning of the Djindjic murder. Most of the people who voted for him are not interested in that kind of stuff. They want an alternative for the DS policies that they consider too corrupt and elitist. As Nikolic has chosen not to be interested in serving them they may very well vote for another party next time.
