bganon,

I can understand why Marko didn't show-up. His father wasn't dealt with fairly. Slobo was kidnapped and sent-off to the Hague in violation of a court order banning his extradition. If you're Marko Milosevic and you get accused by the same authorities of a crime that you know that you did not committ would you expect to get a fair trial?

It isn't Marko's responsibility to prove his innocence, it's the prosecutor's responsibility to prove his guilt. Apparently Marko had no need to even put forward a defense, because the prosecutor failed to prove the charges.

Alex If he is innocent then he should answer the summons and prove so. Why should he be above the law?

For heavens sake if Vojislav Seselj has the gumption to go to the Hague, even before they finished compiling a case against him, then I'm sure Marko should be able to put in an appearance.

Until he does anybody with any sense of fairness should support a (fair) retrial.

This is just great. Another case has become outdated - there have been many. Apparently in the Serbian justice system all one has to do is bribe a few people, run away and wait for the charges to expire. Something needs to be changed to make sure criminals can't get away with it so easily.

I'm also a little amused by those who support this legal move (Milosevic being let off), but are obviously too embarrassed to admit it openly. Instead they pretend to be angry citing that it is Tadic's fault.

Is this sad? Don't assume. Don't blame the judges before reading the evidence.

These cases are becoming stale and anyway there is a chance for the prosecution to appeal.

On the other hand... it is good for the press to keep an eye on the judges ....

Is this part of the deal to get the Socialist Party to support Tadic?

If the international arrest warrant for Mira Markovic (Slobodan Milosevic's wife) is cancelled, then we will know what is going on.

There is something that should be learned here - that no relatives of previously important politicians should be above the law.

I hope that the decision is appealed.

Sad, Serbia needs some lessons in how judges should behave. Although I don't know the case in detail I have the feeling here is another old commy working for the benefit of going back to 1800. Good luck Serbia!
