Nello, the problem with JAT is the hypocritical FAA rule and it's not a CAT1 airline (long story, why). It's all political and an excuse to deliver Russia a little punch in the nose. The answer is of course obvious: no one dares to kick Aeroflot or Air India the way the dare to kick JAT around. With the sale Amis will get a stronger AI or a stronger AF. JAT will keep the brand and the employees, so it's rather (hopefully) a change in the upper management. Until that, there are usual deals (i.e. Emirates, British, Air India, Virgin Atlantic take the passengers over the longer distance till closest place where JAT flies to and they continue with JAT till Belgrade).

Since Russians (Abramovich from Krasair) already own the Hungarian airline MALÉV), it's natural, Aeroflot will try to counter his domestic competitor with a similar deal with Serbia.

It's not the Roman Abramovic like this guy:

but Boris Abramovic like this guy:

Different Abramovic, different hobby. One likes to buy airlines out of his pocket, the other likes to buy Montenegro, Hajduk Split and Chelesea out of his pocket.

Don't complain to me, I am not Abramovic, neither Roman nor Boris. But if you offer me 10 km of Montenegro for free, I will take it.

Another lost soverign assett. The IMF / World Bank precription has failed everywhere it has been implemented, except, for those nations which benefit from ripping off the soverign assets of other nations. Lets hope that the EU & the Yanks actually let Serbia sell (her airline) to Russia. The proposed sale price is still too low. Tourism is booming in the Balkans. Why not just keep JAT it is a very famous and well repected brand, whose fortunes will improve.

That was known since a while. I wonder, what is going on with JAT privatization to Aeroflot or Air India, will JAT (ever?) receive wide-body aircraft and how about the flights across Atlantic, to East Asia and the traditional ones to Australia?
