"“Kanun”??? Can you please tell me something more about how WE live since I don’t have a flying clue what are you talking about!!!

“well, you STILL don’t get it, you haven’t cut anything here, you are not Subject, but Object of history, up to the present day, my dear friend.

I hope that you at least understand what THAT means!”

Regardless of your 'subjective' views on this issue, it is 'objective' that Kosovo is not any more..your subject!!! "

my dear albanian friend!

it seems like you know less than I do about your own ethnicity. well, that says it all, right?

go and inform yourself, perhaps instead of telling stories about some bags in Belgrade, you could help your fellow-albanians to step up their social-level to that point where they do not kill other poeple because of their familie´s honor... what I personally think is extremely primitive!

as for the Albanians being "object" of history... my dear, I know that you cannot stand the truth, nevertheless, it´s indeed the truth.

and Kosovo not our subject? well, let´s see what future brings! I am quite confident!

ps: in Belgrade the poeple at least do work for their living! I hope you got the message, Albo!

Jovan, I see that you read the horoscope on a daily basis since you think you're able to predict people's thoughts and feelings.

>> you mean, like the US are able to feed their poor? perhaps you should watch a little bit less american movies, since you seem to believe in that world of glamour, shine and dollar-signs... :)

I live here, I don't need to watch movies. I can just get out see and breathe the American reality. I don't need Serbian propaganda to tell me how bad the US has it, since I live here. And according to my Serbian colleague, the living standards, even of the poor are much better than in Serbia. He is a Serb from Kosova by the way, much more open minded than you or any other Jovan types out there.

>>with a high percentage of poor US-citizens and in addition to that no health-insurance for a large part of the US-population... your illusions turn out to be a meer wish.

First of all you talk about high percentages. Why don't you show some real figures. Lets compare these percentages with China, India and Serbia if you want. Again I live and work here, I see poor, rich and middle class. Lets just put your facts where your mouth is and have some numbers.

Health Insurance definitely needs to be fixed, however if you're poor and if you're rich you don't need to worry about it. The government pays for the poor, while the rich have the means to pay for themselves. I know poor people being treated for years and they haven't payed a dime.

The middle class falls in 2 groups those whose insurance is covered by their job and those who isn't. The second group is screwed and thats what needs fixing.
Its not bad here at all, and definitely not like an angry Serb here wants you to believe. Unlike any other place on earth, you could come from the furthest corner in the world and still have all the opportunities and chances to be someone here in the USA. The American dream is alive and kicking.

>> that´s the globalization, my dear! do you know how much work has left the US for Mexico and other countries?
:)
when I bought a denim-jacket in NYC, I found out that it was "made in Croatia".. :)

do you get the message?

Apparently you don't get my message. The EU and the US are creators, they are inventors. So even if they do not manufacture in the US or the EU as much as they did, the US and EU companies can take their inventive ideas and manufacture their products where it is cheaper. In the case of China and India they do not create or invent, they only manufacture based on the creations and inventions of the EU and US. Once these EU and US inventors and creators decide that China or India is just too expensive, its back to square one for both China and India.

>>well, my dear, we have all seen how "democracy" works in the US of A, with state-of-the-art ballot-machines which were helping Mr.Bush to achieve confusion and get the Supreme Court to decide about the presidency, instead of the american people.

Ameican democracy is certainly not perfect, but the democracy in the US is certainly among democracies that have the highest standards in the world. Also the ballots where not helping Bush, they just put an artificial deadline which resulted in lots of ballots (where Gore most likely was the winner) not being counted. Also in the American system its the Electoral Collegiate that decides the President. It has happened in the past that even though candidates have won the popular vote they haven't become presidents. The reason why the Electoral collegiate exists is so that the voice of less populated and smaller states is also heard, so that NY, California, and Florida just because they have big populations do not decide for all the other states. When people vote for a candidate in a certain state they are basically telling the delegates of the electoral collegiate of that state to vote for that candidate.
Again the US democracy is not perfect but everyday it gets better, just look at Hillary and Obama; that says a lot.

>>you are not seriously critisizing those countries, are you? I mean, talking about dictatorship in China or a "caste-system" in India ( as far as I know India is a democracy, but you can teach us something better if you wish to ) doesn´t sound quite credible from an Albanian, given that the Albanians live by the rules of the "kanun", which makes several dozens of thousands of male Albanians staying at home, for the rest of their lifetime, since because of their stupid blood-feuds they can´t leave their homes...

First of all the figure you give is overly exaggerated. Second blood feuds in 90% of the cases are isolated to the deep north remote areas. Third people involved in the blood feuds are not following the Kanun, they are bastardizing it by breaking the very rules of it. Read it first before you speak.
Now back from this lame attempt of insult towards a hole nationality from your part, and sorry excuse to change focus. The point was that since there is a caste system and dictatorships in these countries they will never make use of all the human resources, creativity, invention and enterprising spirit of their societies. The advantage of the US is that it can tap in to all of these factors.

"Third, the US economy keeps growing despite a slowing down in the rate of growth, nonetheless it is growing, and it will grow more after the Presidential elections."

really? could you provide some info on that, please? :)

inventions that has lastet for centuries.

>>great, Gjoni, now I know that I am right! thanks for addressing me, I feel honoured , since I know that if I am writing the truth, it seems to bother you!

First of all don't give yourself too much credit, since the truth does not begin or even end with you.
Second, let me get a pen and take note of your irony before B92 deletes it.

>>I´ll cut it short: the Ottomans were 500 years on our territory, and then, we sent them home ...the US won´t stay that long. and WE will be there, and yours is it to wait for that day. and it will come, that´s something you can count on!
and I think you and I, we will witness it, ( hope you are not much younger than 15 years ).

First of all, yes WE sent them home after 500 years. You are not any more special than us or the Hungarians or anyone else who was occupied by the Turks.

" You can't be duped when we cut Belgrade out of our way as we wanted."

well, you STILL don´t get it, you haven´t cut anything here, you are not Subject, but Object of history, up to the present day, my dear friend.

I hope that you at least understand what THAT means!

>>WHICH achievmements, darling?

Again I don't know whether you're being ironic or gay, whichever one it is it seems to suit you.

As to achievements: Cutting all ties with Serbia, being backed by the West and by most of the most powerful and rich countries in the world, alienating Serbia from such countries and weakening its position in Europe to the point where Serbian officials always seem to leave meetings as a sign of protest. Not bad for only couple of months of living on our own.

tell us! you are completely dependent on foreign help... don´t you see that? WHAT, for heavens sake, DO YOU SEE AT ALL???

Its hard to know whether you're speaking about Serbia or Kosova.

>>it´s not about inat, my friend, it´s about you being duped. it´s as simple as it can be!

I remember very clearly when I wrote to you just weeks before we declared independence and I told you:" We will declare independence, the West will recognize it, and Serbia and you as a Serb will act as if nothing has happened and claim Kosova is Serbia".
You answered me with your characteristic ironic posts, that we will not declare independence because the US masters won't let us do it. You went even further saying that nobody in Europe would recognize us.

Let me tell you a story, years ago I was in Belgrade ( for the first time) and oh all that glorifying stories in TV during Yugo’s times, I must tell you a REAL disappointment, got to go around in Taxi driven by a middle aged gentleman (real Beogradjanin) and after I told him where I was from I got to heir really interesting stories ( not the ones you would like to heir) from him what he thought of K-Serbs who went to Serbia after war. Oh I went to see the famous Knez Mihailova and guess what, I had marvelous Burek there ;) after I stopped by Millenium Shopping Mall, I saw a bag which I wanted to get as gift for someone I again ran to a gentle lady of a certain age (we spoke in Serbian of course) she said even though bag was expensive I could use it for at least 10-20 years, she said and I started laughing ( since my interest in bags lasts 1-2 months, having a grand collection of ‘em)….But it made me think and realize lot’s of things…..

Hello albi,

On 15 June the parliament in Pristina is due to ratify its constitution and proclaim itself as fully independent, sovereign and to have full authority over all executive powers.

At the same time, UNSCR 1244 will remain in force which clearly states that Kosovo is part of Serbia, and according to the UN just 2 weeks ago they will retain full executive authority NOT the local parliament.

Do you not see a small problem evolving at this juncture?

As I wrote above, Pristina will have to decide whether to run parallel institutions against the will of the UN or it will have to accept (for the next 12 months at least) that it6 is STILL NOT an independent state.

UNMIK continued existance and authority is a direct signal that the world HAS NOT accepted the UDI as legal and justified. Moreover, it's a signal that the world DOES NOT consider Pristina is capable of self-governance to the standards expected of a sovereign state. You may not like it, but that's the bare fact of the matter.

I suggest you re-evaluate your understanding of the "will of the people". Everybody in my street would like to be self-governing. It is the will of the entire population in my street. However, it's not going to happen, nor would it be legal or practical. Kosovo is a province of Serbia under interim international governance. The "will of the people" equates to the entire population of Serbia, not a clever calculation concerning just one corner of the whole.

I read your comments many times and it makes me laugh really, my favorite is referring to Kosovo as fairy tale land. You go to length to sound sarcastic.

You refer to China and Russia as you backers and USA only as someone who is Using Albanians. In Kosovo you have 90% Albanians and every day that number is growing, just look east towards Israel and you will find out that it was created only 60years ago and non of their neighbors recognized them. In Kosovo case only one will not and this is Serbia.

Kosovo is a new Country or (fairy land as you refer to it its your choice), let time show the way it’s the best history teller.

the "dream" as you call it, is already fact. i can´t see albanians on the negotiation-table in belgrade between unmik and serbia!

i can see albanian shoe-cleaners, ice-cream-sellers but no, no albanians that waste time about the state-dream of kosovo or the future of unmik.

it was, it is and it will be again serbian!

no matter if usa, jay leno or the pope dream about a kosovo republic.

your muslim brothers are much wiser about the acknowledgement of a phantasy state without a future.

what´s up with saudi-arabia, did this week again something get in between the weekly announced acknowledgment? was it to hot, to rainy or to boring for the acknowledgement of a phantasy republic?

Lavrov added that Russia would support any solution that would have Belgrade A_N_D Priština’s blessing, reiterating that Russia’s proposal to renew talks between the T_W_O sides over status still stood.

it is an illusion that Russia "backs Serbia". read the words of Lavrov. as the president of Russia he says the same like he said after the failure of UN Troika negotiations - which he joined as foreign minister of Russia.

the question is: Kosovo goes into next negotiations which much better cards than at the Troika period. I think, time is not working for Serbia - initiative and time was lost, when there was a chance. if the offer of negotiations is refused by Belgrade, then the stance of Russia might change. until then it's fair to adress both sides of the unsolved conflict equally - as Lavrov does in his statement.

on the other hand: recognition of the UDI is the only way to force such negotiations. it prevents Serbia to play on time - which is no solution.

One big difference between Albania and Serbia is their population. Yes both are close, but Albanians are WAY OVER POPULATED. Being overpopulated will not help a country develop.

How can an Albanian support a family of 8 or 10 children on a small pay check. How will they be able to go to college. Quality of life will be very difficult. 2 million Albanians in Kosovo. Nobody invisioned that 100 years ago or even 5o for that fact. Serbs can support their families better and will continue to better educated and will grow as a nation and not just by a population. What kind of health care system do you expect to have in an overpopulated country?

Albanians are very similar to China and India. You are just setting up yourselves for failure and not success.

Its not how many people you have but how many intelligent minds a country entails.

To Willie Garvin

I don't think Albanians mind international presence in Kosovo. It was, after all, the international forces that pretty much prevented wholesale slaughter of the Albanian population.

If the UN in Kosovo becomes a barrier to development, if it becomes a problem - a bigger problem than what it is, then UNMIK will be ignored.

Albanians won't resort to the same tactics that Serbs themselves used in Bosnia (i.e., steal UN weapons and equipment and use them in campaigns agains civilians). But the fact remains that the UN is a very inept organization and if the need arises to completely and utterly ignore it, then so be it. Serbs did just that in their recent elections.

Understand one thing, the will of the people is the will of the people.

Even if Serbia somehow makes it to the EU it would just a Russian satellite. This would make it to hard to manage and to close to the Adriatic. Albanians are loyal servants and you Serbs are the noblest ppl on earth yeah...B92 should not censor this blatant racism because in my opinion, this shows to every rational reader why Albanians in Kosovo could not live under Serbia/Yugoslavia, because they were relegated to second class citizen status and subjected to worst type of racism.

In this same blog sb as many times before referred to Serbia as powerhouse of the Balkans...wherever I read this I was absolutely stunned. Republic of Serbia has only 7.5 million inhabitants, out of them 6.2 million are ethnic serbs, the economy is worse then Greece, Crotia, Romania, Bulgaria...so how in the hell is Serbia the powerhouse?
I wonder why about 6 million Serbs in Serbia consider themselves so much powerful vs. about 6 million Albanians in R.A. and Kosovo?
You have nearly the same economy but we have same level of education, youth, positive demographic growth, wide sea access, better climate and more resources so we have better prospects than your "powerhousë" economy.
I hear a lot of trash in this blog about how things in the world are decided by BRICs...this is really funny. When the US decides to poke the commodity bubble, we shall see Brazil and Russia suffer. China and India growth are from such low base, then it will take 50 years for them to grow like this to just feed and shelter their populations. Have you guys been to China and India or you just visit Mumbai and Shanghai which are 1/100 of population? Go visit and then I am sure you will shut up. US is the only superpower at least for XXI century, after that we shall see.

Therefore instead of praising Mother Russia, you better start talking without prejudice with Albanians.

Well done !

I like reasonable people with arguments based on formal logic. Evidently even in the USA there are people who understand that exporting problems may some day strike back. And destruction of the existing international law may bring only chaos all over the world. So those people to vote for the UNMIK budjet are not going to pay the increased price for Kosovo violation. The blitz krieg has failed !

The Yankees are quite pragmatic and it makes me think that they are going to stop moving to the edge. Russia has equalized the situation in the favour of the Serbs and now there's only one way out - negotiations. No more ultimatums for the Serbs. Only a compromise to satisfy both sides !

VB, it doesn't change the fact that while there are Kosovars in Kosova you will NEVER EVER rule Kosova
(KV, 3 June 2008 16:59)
--
Kosovars? Are they some new characters in this fairy tale that live in the land of "Kosova"?

When are you guys going to get it? Serbia has absolutely no interest in ruling the Albanians and has already offered them self rule.

However, the simple fact remains, Kosovo's independence is irreversibly blocked at the UN. It aint going any further my friends and there is nothing more for China and Russia to do. It's a done deal, no independence and it costs them absolutely nothing!

However, the occupiers have to spend billions and have thousands of troops in place to keep this false dream alive. Why? What do they get out of it? There is no oil in Kosovo!

So tell me, who do you think is going to last longer? Someone who spends nothing to block independence (with growing economies) or someone who spends billions to sustain the status quo (with troubled economies)?

At the end of the day, the Albanians love the US and are loyal servants. If the US tell them to cave in, that is exactly what will happen so it is entirely their decision and not the Albanians! That should be clear.

On the other hand, the Serbians are free people and will never cave in. We have only partners and no masters so we don't take orders.

Friends, with a bit of patience, it should be clear that the path of least resistance is a Serbian victory. It seems the occupiers are running thin on both patience and funding.

There will be no independence. It is already written on the wall. May peace fall upon our Albanian friends.

pre 15 godina

Hello everybody,

I would like to remind all those who support Pristina's UDI - Albanian or other of a recent decision made in New York.

About 2 weeks ago, the United Nations 5th Committee voted to approve funding for UNMIK for a further 12 months - until June 2009. This was approved against the wishes and expectations of the US and the EU. The budget approved is a reduction on on the current budget, but nevertheless, significant. This sensible decision was made with the full knowledge and understanding that less than 25% of UN member states have recognised Kosovo as independent, and of those, most are from the somewhat biased US/EU bloc and their 'clients'.

What maybe of greatest interest is three lines in the preamble of the UNSG's report on the matter (A/62/687):

"The mandate of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) was established by the Security Council in its resolution 1244 (1999)."

"The Mission, as currently mandated by the Security Council, will continue to maintain overall executive authority in Kosovo during the 2008/09 financial period."

"The Mission will also strengthen its focus on the critical areas of security, rule of law, standards implementation, property rights and the economy."

What does this mean in plain English?

1. UNMIK is going to be around for at least another 12 months and, during this period, Pristina's UDI is NOT recognised as legal or valid. This means, on June 16th, Pristina authorities will have a tough decision to make: ignore the will of the UN and break all ties, or do a significant u-turn on its rhetoric of the past few months.

2. EULEX, irrespective of Peter Feith's recent pronouncements, will have to accept UNMIK authority or also operate outside international legitimacy. The third line I quote suggests that the UN has decided on the former!

So, to all those who believe the sovereign independence of Kosovo is a done deal, may I remind you that the fat lady has still not sung. :)

According to “international law” today’s Albanians would have been deployed or butchered by Serb Military and police, since Russia was backing Serbia’s position “Kosovo is Serbia’s internal affair”.
It can not be in accordance to international law to hold back the future of a whole people.

"With China being a dictatorship, and India following a Caste social order they will never achieve what the US has achieved."

you are not seriously critisizing those countries, are you? I mean, talking about dictatorship in China or a "caste-system" in India ( as far as I know India is a democracy, but you can teach us something better if you wish to ) doesn´t sound quite credible from an Albanian, given that the Albanians live by the rules of the "kanun", which makes several dozens of thousands of male Albanians staying at home, for the rest of their lifetime, since because of their stupid blood-feuds they can´t leave their homes...

"Third, the US economy keeps growing despite a slowing down in the rate of growth, nonetheless it is growing, and it will grow more after the Presidential elections."

"Fourth, being that the West has set the pace of Global development for around 700 hundred years now, I wouldn't discount them as easily as our Serbian posters do out of their Serbian inat."

given that China, only as one example, can count on 5000 years of civilization, you dare to speak about serbian inat while you want to glorify the west in a quite cheapish manner?

laughable!

"Fifth, this is for readers like Jovan. The US has had troops in South Korea for 50 years now. They've had troops in Germany for almost 60 years now. I wouldn't count to much on the US getting tired especially when having troops in Kosova means that Putin's backyard can only reach as far as Belgrade. As a matter of fact the closer Belgrade allies to Russia, the more any hope for influence in Kosova decreases. It is simple to understand that the US and the EU would rather have a US and EU satellite in Kosova, which it has now, than a Russian satellite (Serbia with Kostunica's Nikolic's, Seselj's etc etc. and Serbian offer). Even if Serbia somehow makes it to the EU it would just a Russian satellite. This would make it to hard to manage and to close to the Adriatic. So having Kosova as a US and EU satellite balances world mechanisms and we Albanians definitely profit greatly from this anti US, anti EU and anti NATO stance that Serbia has. So Jovan, so much for being duped."

Willie Garvin

pre 15 godina

Understand one thing, the will of the people is the will of the people.

>> you mean, like the US are able to feed their poor? perhaps you should watch a little bit less american movies, since you seem to believe in that world of glamour, shine and dollar-signs...

Its hard to know whether you're speaking about Serbia or Kosova.

According to “international law” today’s Albanians would have been deployed or butchered by Serb Military and police, since Russia was backing Serbia’s position “Kosovo is Serbia’s internal affair”.
It can not be in accordance to international law to hold back the future of a whole people.
Now we will live with the fact that Serbia has chosen not recognize us but to be a permanent threat

I can tell you Britian is not that interested in Kosovo we have our own problems. The UN will soften to the Serb stance and they will talk to the coucils setup in Kosovo

johny

1. They think that if you have a big population you have power. Meaning because India and China have together approximately 3 billion people then they are powerful. Well that is not the case. You have to be able to feed those billions of people if you want to have any claim for power. Second factories are moving out of China on a daily bases due to an increase in the cost of labor. They're going to other Asian countries such as Vietnam. I am not saying this; Warren Buffet's important investments are moving their factories in Vietnam.

Second, as long as there is no democracies in these countries they will never reach or achieve anything close to what the US has achieved. With China being a dictatorship, and India following a Caste social order they will never achieve what the US has achieved.

Third, the US economy keeps growing despite a slowing down in the rate of growth, nonetheless it is growing, and it will grow more after the Presidential elections.

Fourth, being that the West has set the pace of Global development for around 700 hundred years now, I wouldn't discount them as easily as our Serbian posters do out of their Serbian inat.

Fifth, this is for readers like Jovan. So Jovan, so much for being duped. You can't be duped when we cut Belgrade out of our way as we wanted. When this countries that have recognized Kosova can stay there for decades because we request it and the situation requests it. However I am more comfortable that you and posters like are so dismissive of the west, of us, and of our achievements.

Willie Garvin

pre 15 godina

>>"given that China, only as one example, can count on 5000 years of civilization, you dare to speak about serbian inat while you want to glorify the west in a quite cheapish manner?"

We're talking about technological development and
inventions that has lastet for centuries.

>>great, Gjoni, now I know that I am right! thanks for addressing me, I feel honoured , since I know that if I am writing the truth, it seems to bother you!

I hope you got the message, Albo!

without the support of moscow, beijing (at the UN) and belgrade, the albanians in kosovo can only "dream" of being independent.

does not change the fact also if prishtina and nato repeat this thousand more times.

Dan, sooner or later your "friends" will realise again that this status quo is unsustainable and the negotiations will take place you can bet on it. Time is on Serbia's side and your only hope is for Tadic to sell out the Kosovo. Somehow I cannot see that happening.

Albanicum,

your comment says it all, on so many levels...

:)

when will you stop whining about racism? do you know the meaning of that word, actually?

it´s not about racial belonging... can´t you understand that???

and equal education-level?

as far as I watch it on tv, there is still the kanun quite alive in Albania and also in the albanian society of the southern serbian province, so what are you talking about, please?
furthermore you don´t seem to know latest estimations about the albanians´ demographical development!

your comment is worth being read, because it shows all the signs of poor propaganda

@ ahmet,

is it "russia-gives-in-time" again?

please don´t (again) read between the lines.

@ dan

the "dream" as you call it, is already fact. i can´t see albanians on the negotiation-table in belgrade between unmik and serbia!

i can see albanian shoe-cleaners, ice-cream-sellers but no, no albanians that waste time about the state-dream of kosovo or the future of unmik.

it was, it is and it will be again serbian!

no matter if usa, jay leno or the pope dream about a kosovo republic.

your muslim brothers are much wiser about the acknowledgement of a phantasy state without a future.

what´s up with saudi-arabia, did this week again something get in between the weekly announced acknowledgment? was it to hot, to rainy or to boring for the acknowledgement of a phantasy republic?
