Interesting...

well... like it or not Milosevic actually stated his reasons for remaining in office after his "defeat" and did not say it was "politically motivated"

It's a shame that in this day of age we have to walk into government buildings and grab the neck of politicians and force them out of power... but we must defend the democratic process in Serbia at ALL costs.

For those that don't get it.
Its like this. SRS/DSS are afraid of repeat elections - as a previous poster pointed out SRS lost big in Vojvodina. Polls confirm the fact they would do worse (as would SPS).

The only way to neutralise this is by stirring up their supporters and this is a good opportunity to do just this.

However, I still doubt that people will take to the streets. Its not a big enough issue and Alimpic isn't breaking the law. Serbian citizens see worse cheating than this almost every day from their politicians.

BTW before anybody says there is no chance of repeat elections, think again. If Palma does not budge it would mean neither side can muster a majority.

A repeat election is something 'patriotic' parties want to avoid. I would prefer SPS to make up their mind ASAP, but if we have to I'm willing to vote again.

This position of DS is not only an insult to the basic rules of democracy, it proves that they have maybe a lot of work to do in the municipality to clean the files after some years of their management. Will they be finished on July 14th ??

the pressure of SRS & DSS-NS makes no sense. I agree fully with the political motivation with the mayor in charge: the world needs time to realise, that a former information minister of Milosevic - who is now political henchman of Vojislav Seselj is going to become mayor of Belgrade.

street protests organized by SRS & Co. will just boost these news around the globe.

"They threatened to begin protests"

Will these "patriots" suceed in burning and looting McDonald, restaurants and sports shops again?

Out come the SRS worshipers to pray.

Have they forgotten that SRS are in no position to talk about democracy?

Has it been forgotten that radicals were wiped out in Vojvodina?

Mr. Almpic's willful frustration of democracy speaks volumes about the DS's arogance and culture of entitlement. His position reflects both DS Hubris and why the DS have not won the elections despite heavy western backing.

How tedious.

Why can't they just get on with making a government?

On the other hand we could just cancel elections and just take to the streets to protest. Whoever, has the largest crowd gets to govern...

This is a good opportunity for the SRS to cause damage to the reputation of Mr Alimpić and his dirty-tricks party. What a sore loser!

His comments are an insult to the majority of Serbian voters and democratic principles. It is not up to him to make decisions for the electorate when they have already made up their mind.

Bye bye DS, you lost the elections and it's time to pack your bags. Don't forget to take your dirty tricks, deceit and lies with you.

" “politically motivated.“....
The acting mayor said that it was the “duty of every normal Belgrade citizen“ to try and stop “a bad government that will do harm to Belgrade“ from coming to power. "

- which is why you let the electorate decide and hold democratic elections not your simplistic and self admitted “politically motivated“ reasons to block the electorates will !!!

You would think it was quite a simple concept to understand - the SRS-DSS-SPS have a majority in Belgrade and have formed a coalition to govern - this is what resulted of the democratic process i.e the Belgrade electorate choice - are DS now stating the elections were not democratic given that the majority of people have not chosen unDemocratic Stranka in Belgrade?

What stupid and dumb move by D yeS to all that EUcrats demand! Is this what DS mean by democracy and "will of the people" - i.e will of only them and their "politically motivated" stupidity???

Some people might say Tadic's remarks yesterday on "mathematics" of majorities was dumb but here today comes what seems even is Dumber with Alimpić admitting the obvious and underhanded nature of DS actions -i.e. it is “politically motivated“ and then continues to defend the indefensible! Maybe the D in DS stands for Dumber Stranka??

In the meantime SRS are scoring credibility points and improving their "demmocratic" Kudos by allowing Novi Sad to be goverened as soon as DS wants!!!
