What amuses me about the whole Kosovo situation is that Albanians think that the US and the EU have awarded them with something by supporting their pursuit of independence. Both the EU and the US will always impose the rule of law for all sides involved. US and EU military bases will be built and national laws will be based on EU and US directives, not on what Albanians, or Serbs for that matter, feel is right for Kosovo. Just look at Ireland. They have never allowed abortions in Ireland, but now they are being pressured by the EU to change this law, and believe me it will change. Kosovo is just another example of a weak eastern european territory that will be taken advantage of as the US and the EU build an eastern front to increase military and economic presence on Russia's doorstep, especially with Russia's recent growth in the global economic and political arenas.

I think you have made one critical error with your little statistics, your "kosova" is not recognised by the UN.

Furthermore, the concept of creating a country out of Serbia's most sacred land by running every Serb and non-Albanian out of their homes and proceeding to tortment the remaining population and burn our churches, destroy our graves and try and replace it with some sort of Albanian Dardania is so farcical that it makes me laugh. But believe me your little quasi-state which is no more than a stratigical outpost for NATO/US will be very short lived as we enter a new age where the tables will turn and scores will be settled. I think you Albanians forget who Serbs are; we are proud, successfull and we can endure hardship till the end of time. And there is no doubt in my mind that we will once again rise to our feet and say ;"enough is enough, whats ours is ours and it always will be!"

Rupel, I just remembered your greatest political idea, namely that one :
"to announce Kosovo independence on Sunday so that Russia cannot call for the UN meeting (has to wait for a day-)"
I would really love to read this guy's diary.
But the point is- you Rupel, Dimitrij have lost your credentials.

don´t worry guys!

guys like Laki are desperately trying to present the situation as a heavenly start into a bright future, but reality will embrace them sooner or later!
talking about the GDP of those 40 states makes me really shiver! :)

wow!

as for Rupel, he´s slowly becoming a increasingly bigger and bigger shame for Slovenia, not only because of selling out slovenian sovereignty to the United States...

Mr.Kostunica is simply right on this!

but we all know why our beloved albanian friends here do not like to read that truth... :)

Laki, in other words:

Formally recognized by the USA and their "puppets" :)

and thats where the buck stops my friend... This isn't the first time Kosovo was "independent" and how that independence was "irreversable" your parents & grandparents were singing the same tune with their Nazi allies. But those darn Russians ruined that party.

The classic song comes to mind... "I fought the law, and the LAW WON"

Might is right?

The EU and US are so integrated you may as well not class them as a bunch of individual democracies. The good news is that the countries that are becoming very influentially in the new power, which is oil and gas and not land, are on the other side.

I hope in my lifetime the injustice committed onto Serbia and the biased reporting is reversed, before so many stupid Serbs as well are willing to accept a false past, roll over and kiss arse and loose their identity by joining the EU.

Remember, the EU has judges who make laws who are not elected, they set economic quotas like good communists and they want a new history, any sentiment of who you are is worthless. I often wonder do people from the new EU countries and those wishing to join realise how unpopular the EU is becoming from those who are from the establish EU bloc? (Unless you come from Germany).

Laki - 7) Formally recognized by 41 out of 192 United Nations (UN) Member States or 21.35%
OR
As you say, not recognized by about 80% of the UN members representing about 90% of the world's population, including India, China, RF,Brazil, Spain and others...

Laki, how much ever you dream and magnify your lost cause, please be assured that it is destined to be primarily that -

Laki,
Don't forget that India and China, two countries not recognizing Kosovo's independence, together account for one third of the world's population. You forgot that statistic, didn't you? Oh, and the US is complaining that only 41 countries recognized Kosovo so far. Apparently, according to US sources, Kosovo's leadership is too lazy to seek recognition. What a surprise...

After 100 days of Kosova’s Declaration of Independence, here some well know facts for all skeptics out there:

1) Countries that formally recognize Kosova make up 69.47% of the World's Total nominal GDP
2) Formally recognized by 7 out of 7 G7 Member Countries or 100%
3) Formally recognized by 7 out of 8 G8 (G7 + Russia) Member Countries or 87.5%
4) Formally recognized by 21 out of 26 NATO Member States or 80.77%
5) Formally recognized by 20 out of 27 European Union (EU) Member States or 74.07%
6) Formally recognized by 3 out of 5 UN Security Council (UNSC) Permanent Member States or 60%
7) Formally recognized by 41 out of 192 United Nations (UN) Member States or 21.35%
8) Formally recognized by 31 out of 56 OSCE Member States or 55.36%
9) And the most important one Formally recognized by world biggest democracies:USA, England, France, Germany, Scandinavian countries,….

Iaki, The final criteria isn't how many troops are stationed there (after all, you will find out that the EU has no appetite for keeping troops in Kosovo permanently to prevent violence between Albanians and local Serbs) but in matters of international recognition and legitimacy. What international organizations can you join when the vast majority of the world's countries do not recognize you? At this point, you're better off than Northern Cyprus, but not by much.

As for Rupel, the Slovenian presidency of the EU has become the biggest embarrassment by far in the 40 year history of the position. It was revealed that they are taking orders--antithetical to EU interests--from the US. It has been unable to remain neutral in a variety of issues which require a neutral stance as head of the EU Presidency, whether in regard to Greece/Macedonia, the split in the EU on Kosovo recognition, and various other issues. Truly an embarrassment.

I guess he could use that reasoning to say that the 40% of registered voters who did not vote in the election support him becasue they did not vote against his party.
It may come as a surprise to the Serb camp that Serbia is not the center of the universe for most of the world and that if they have not made an official response then the assumption cannot be that they are in support of the Serbian position.
Out of the countries that have made an official response the percentage is in favor of Kosovo recognition.

Rupel has long been biased on the kosovo issue. he has never been neutral on it. well we all know that slovenia is one's part of yugoslavia and that kind of attitude that Rupel is showing is not a surprise.

“He said that “the vast majority of countries in the world do not recognize Kosovo’s independence, but recognize Serbia’s legitimate, international recognized borders, with Kosovo inside Serbia.””

Mr Koštunica which one of those countries from vast majority you mention has troops, resources and WILL to enforce their perception of reality in Kosova?
Russia is the only one, but lacks the will, readiness to risk a confrontation with NATO, and most important one logistically is impossible for them to do anything militarily! Remember NATO intervention 1999, when Hungary warned Russia that it will shut down any Russian military plane heading for Belgrade!
Reality in the ground is that every time Mr Koštunica enters Kosova , at border checkpoints he reads a banner “Welcome to Republic of Kosova” . Can Mr Koštunica tell me that’s not reality?
