Branco,

Believe me, I would do it if I could (if I was in the journalism sector), as I am a grand supporter for equal opportunities and fair/by merit competitions/selections. As for the governments tender publications (in Serbian newspapers) I can’t agree since I don’t know that, but if that’s the case you should ask the journalists of the newspaper that you read to gather this information for you and publish it, also it would be wise to make a written complain to the government/local representatives so you get informed about tenders (and don’t stop until you get answers)

"bottomline is to publish tenders in 3 languages in both in albanian and the serbian newspapers as this is the right way for equality and non discrimination"

I totally agree with you.

P.S It gets heavy on me (and definitely not a proud citizen) to know that anybody is left out or discriminated. I also hope you get all the info that you need very soon.

alba, SO YOU AGREE THAT GOVERNMENT TENDERS ARE NOT PUBLISHED IN SERBIAN NEWSPAPERS RIGHT? and not all the ministries publish tenders in 3 languages, you can check. do you yourself buy and read serbian newspapers? i think no. same as us serbians we dont read albanian newspapers. bottomline is to publish tenders in 3 languages in both in albanian and the serbian newspapers as this is the right way for equality and non discrimination. how can you people expect to build trust and confidence by only blah blah blah. DO IT!

I think the old border lines created by Tito’s Yugoslavia and mantained since the end of World War II should be respected.
(Bad Gorilla, 28 May 2008 18:14)

I could not agree more!

Kosovo is Serbian!

one can like it or not, but anybody with clear sight and and soul can see that a de facto partition is progressing day by day (with the tacit agreement of almost all the key players, which Rupel is not). The real question is: just the North or the Centre too?

there won´t be partition Rupi-baby... since it is all serbian!

but you will be out of duty, when that part of serbian territory is re-integrated again.

partition is a best way for serbians to have economic benefits right now all government contracts are awarded to albanians even for projects in the serbian areas because all advertisements are done in the albanian newspapers. serbian contractors are mad at this practice. THIS IS DISCRIMINATION IN REAL SENSE OF THE WORD
(branco covic, 28 May 2008 16:45)

.they are local newspapers (in Albanian language) but the most vacancies, all calls for tenders and grants are published in three languages (also Serbian), I know this for a fact, being a regular reader/buyer of thousands of newspapers. What you can do is get the paper you don’t need to read it just get the pages you need and apply, other option is get some journalist to gather this information for you regarding various contracting offers and projects, on the other hand all calls for contractors are published in the relevant official government websites which are also in three languages. If you don’t know the website? Easy just Google-it (i.e. Kosovo Ministry of Welfare itd.)

“… Certain principles must be defended, from a European point of view, added Rupel…"

Principles? What principles? Rules of the game are constantly changing, from one "special case" to other "special case". The only permanent principle in ever changing environment seems to be that no meter what's the rule of the day, somehow, by some miracle, it's always against Serb interests.

Jan,

"… The EU presidency is not just one man…"

You are completely right. It isn't just Rupel thing. It is planned, consequent, anti - Serb policy of the major western powers.

So Mr Rupel, partition of Kosovo is "not to be encoraged", but the partition of Serbia is perfectly legitimate state of affairs is it?

Oh don't you just love the hypocracy of the European (Soviet) Union and the USA....

Jan, Look closer at what Rupel says and does. For instance, he is heavily in Macedonia's corner regarding the name issue with Greece. Is the next Presidency in Macedonia's corner? No, the French have sided with Greece on this. So, while you are correct that typically the Presidency takes on a neutral approach, Slovenia's approach to many issues has been a complete embarrassment in terms of bias.

I was for the partition since 1999!!!
I thought North of Ibar would join Serbia and the rest of Kosovo would get a full independence!!!
But that didn't happened!
Serbia gambled, went for all or nothing!

As a born Kosovan Albanian,I would like Kosovo to be a home for all nationalities living now there.

One thing is for certain,Kosovo is the newest country in World,it will be the hardest time ahead for us Kosovans, but we are ready and I know we will be just fine!!!
Cheers from rainy London!

Alex, you seem to miss an important point here (not surprisingly, considering how Serbia has difficulty separating its presidency from party politics):

The EU presidency is not just one man. It is a rotating troika composed of the prime ministers from 3 countries: The previous, the present, and the next country to hold the presidency. This running rotation is one way to create stability and keep the EU on a stable course. No new presidency can go in and complete change the course of EU. In June, Rupel will still be there, now as a representative of the previous presidency. And you can be rest assured, that any decision regarding Kosovo and EULEX will essential stay the same.

What European principle is Rupel talking about? The principle that borders should be maintained at any price - even if that price is ethnic cleansing? We have seen in Croatia how that works...

Maybe he should look for principles in international law instead of in vague European "principles" that are in reality opportunistic arguments.

Just over a month now and this guy will descend back into insignificance.

There will be no authorised transfer of UNMIK to the EU mission unless negotiations take place with Russia and Serbia. Otherwise we get into a situation where Serbia continues to strenghten ties with its loyal citizens, including the Gorani.

The independence movement is dead. Victory is ours.

kufr

I would agree with Rupel that Kosovo should not be partitioned if Rupel had also said that Kosovo must not declare independence from Serbia. Now that Rupel supported independence from Serbia he can not object to partition of Kosovo. That would mean he looses whatever is left of his credibility.

Mike

Partition, if not outright cantonization, of Kosovo Province is not only inevitable, it's an on the ground reality. I see no other way around the quagmire the EU and the US are in in Kosovo other than to accept this as a fact and negotiate with the Serbs on equal but separate footing with the Albanians.
