A correct analysis of the elctions is yet to take place. The team claiming victory is in fact a coalition of parties., Not unlike that of Italy's defeated Olive Coalition (which is made up of twenty parties, including Communists) The other Serbian coalition chose to run under two seperate lists BUT their combined total is greater than the DS Which in fact means that more people voted for a party that was symapthetic to a more cautious and scrupulous approach to the advances of the EU. In any event, not only Serbia BUT Croatia cannot be allowed EU membership until the final status of Croatia's Italian Population is recognised. (i.e., Italy currently has a peace treaty with Slovenia & the Former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia BUT not currently Croatia. Slovenia accepted the terms of the former FRY treaty prior to being admitted to EU. Dalmatia, Istria & Frulia are as dear to Italians as Kosovo is to the Serbs and Rightly So. Marco Polo & Mario Andretti both come from this region. The Victorious Allies, the precurser to the EU silently approved of the removal from Italy of it's sacred roman heartland. What have they done to Serbia? Berlusconi, Why wasn't Mirko Tremaglia appointed a minister?

Neither the USA nor EU nor NATO nor even Lithuania can impose us anything that doesn't meet our interests. We don't mind to have an agreement with the EU but it won't be a colonial agreement they would like to sign. Never again !

At the moment only one side is interested in the agreement. And it's the EU.Neither do we need the WTO membership.

To my mind best if the agreement is signed in a few years when the EU better undestands that they have to compete China , Japan ,South Korea and India for the Russian and Russia controlled Central Asian crude oil and gas. EU is also interested in the Russian market to become N1 in Europe by the New Year. So it is stupid enough to put political terms in a game you are loosing. We don't believe this bluff. There's only one thing we are interested in EU and it's partnership. And there's nothing you can blackmail us. There's nothing EU can offer us that we cannot buy from the reast of the world.

That's true about Poland getting in too early, but I am starting to see why now, it was a great investment opportunity for the West and as a result has now rocketed forward, even overtaking the Baltics (apart form Estonia), Slovakia and Hungary. Soon we will overtake Estonia and Czech Republic, at this rate, for the first time I see how positive the EU is on Poland.

Michael Thomas, that first blue and oval symbol as you call it, is the Government emblem while the one posted in this article is the parliament. Those are two different buildings. Despite the similarity to the US it has no meaning its just a plaque on a wall.

Michael Thomas a closer look will show you that you compared the logo of the Serbian parliament with that of the Serbian government.

So that symbolic change you wrote of does not actually exist.

As for Kostunica's latest idea of a national government. The question remains who would take part in such a government - all the parliamentary parties? And who would be Prime Minister (as if we didn't know).

Desperation is the word that springs to mind.

"The EU and US are trying to completely crush Serbia so that it becomes 100% compliant in their bigger picture of isolating Russia"

Exactly ! You're right ! Wether we like it or not Serbia is once again a hostage of the world politics. The only guilt of the Serbs is that they dislike singing as back vocals. Say they don't refuse from Russia , they don't refuse from Kosovo ,they don't dream of NATO membership ect.

In fact very soon the situation may change for better. After Kosovo reservation plans are ruined and after Eastern vector of Russian policy is strengthened EU will be less reluctant to search compromises. Most of the Europeans can see that there's nothing they can stop Russia with while very soon they can meet energy starvation. As you know Russia has blocked any other oil and gas pipelines but the Russian ones. Besides in 3-4 years we'll have a choice to sell crude oil an gas to China ,Japan, Korea to put us no pre-conditions. Also we don't care about WTO membership. The later we sign new cooperation treaty with the EU the better. So I wish some other state will block the starting negotiations. Lithuania proved to be much weaker than the Poles. What a pity !

The most significant thing about this story is the photograph of Kostunica that accompanies it.

Note the sign behind Kostunica. This is a new sign for the Serbian Parliament. It replaces the previous on which was a blue oval with the white outline of the Serbian Parliament on it.

The old sign was a copy of that used by the American President and it was adopted by the DOS regime as a sign of loyalty to their new masters.

EU is a product of a "bureaucratic revolution" which pays lip service to democracy using it as a thin veil to cover its machinations. It is modeled after USA, another do-gooder who promotes "humanitarian cause" around the world while making profit all along. Serbia should refrain from joining such an enlightened bunch and conduct its relationship with it via the mechanism of traditional international exchange. Anything more than that would amount to asking for yet another round of robbery, rape and shameless lies on their part.

just to add here.
Poland at the time of entering EU was one of the poorest European country. Avoiding all EU protocols and requirement set for joining, Poland became an EU member by a fast up procedure.
Ahmet why?
Danke Poland for 1989, thank you John.
Of course nothing here against good Polish people, but the exception is evident, no doubt.

And let be clear that first to walk out from EU wont be Czech or Bulgaria, neither Portugal, it will be the prudish and infantile 'biggest bubbles' who wont be able from 'their heights' to accept equality as principle and free diversity as a consequent state. Let me think.... Italy perhaps?

Ahmet Isufi - Last time i heard, the Albanians are mainly muslim. They also have by far the highest birth rate in Europe. As the Pope is openly against another muslim state entering Europe, i.e. Turkey, Albanians can kiss goodbye any hope of entering the EU. They'll be welcomed into NATO but not into Europe. All kinds of excuses will be offered for not allowing Albania or Turkey into Europe, but the underlying reason is easy (for most of us) to see - The catholic church doesn't want another religion in Europe which might in the future threaten it's dominance.

- exactly - if Solano, Rupel et al can publically make statements about upholding Georgia's sovereignity then they need to asked by their friend Tadic why they act against Serbia's sovereignity despite so called hand of friendship SAA!!!

D yeS to all that EUrope demands are the favoured choice of Solano et al because they never stand up and question the sincerity of their EU 'friends' words & actions!!!

Serbia should wake up and smell the coffee, along with Albania and Macedonia. There is little chance of any of them entering the EU now, in the near future or in the distant future, for a variety of reasons.

The EU and US are trying to completely crush Serbia so that it becomes 100% compliant in their bigger picture of isolating Russia. That means demanding that Serbia renounce Kosovo and it's huge energy resources and hand over Mladic and Karadzic, whilst other ethnic groups in the region escape wholesale punishment. It's no perception that the Serbs are being persecuted. As the dominant power in the Balkans, the EU wants to make sure that Serbia is completely under the thumb, hence it has to jump through the EU's hoops.

Albania's and Macedonia's main problems are their fast growing muslim populations which the Catholic church perceives as a threat.
