Democratic Serbia's entry to the EU and the maintainance of its territorial integrity should go hand in hand.

Serbia should be in no hurry to establish the autonomy mentioned under 1244, but the EU must be made to understand that the behaviour of some of its members is unacceptable.

However, the US should not be allowed to join the EU under any circumstances.

Again a lot of nonsense from Serwer.

“I think it is clear what most Serbs prefer, so I hope that the Socialists will choose Brussels over Moscow,”

I think the point is that the Serbian electorate weren't clear over what he things was a rather black and white choice. If they were then the Tadic coalition plus the LDP would have got at least 126 seats but and not 115.

"especially for the Kosovo Serbs, would have been much worse" had his country not "moved ahead with Kosovo independence".

How could it have been much worse? Had they been attacked by Albanians then KFOR surely would have prevented it.

And it certainly isn't up to the US to dictate to the UN and EU on how they should admit memeber nations.

If the US actions in Kosovo were so stabilising then why did conflict occur in Macedonia in 2001?

The guy has no clue. Were it up to me I'd think about barring him from entering the country at all.

For somebody like me (a supposed moderate) to say that you can be certain he is clueless.

While I'm a 3rd generation American of Serbian descent, I'm a bit confused about why your story would lead with the analyst who views the US as being a stablizing force as opposed to the one who believes we have been part of the problem. At least you included that as opposed to the American media who don't ever mention the possibility on the rare occasions they cover anything dealing with Serbia.

The truth is what it is...the US is part of the problem...and if the US populace knew the truth they wouldn't stand for it. I only wish that the politicians in Serbia could find a way to get full disclosure in the US media...

“In my view, Kosovo's entry into the UN should be a condition for Serbia's entry into the EU. It is time for the EU and the U.S. to tell any government in Serbia that that will be required,” he said.

Absolutely spot on! It will be interesting to see what a government will be in Serbia)))
