Tom,

"...the workings of a multi-party democracy.

Can you and other tell me about your reading the voting for Tadic's party?
I understand that dirty politics can be made with maths in parliament. But if you want to read correctly and understand the vote you will come to different view.

As an Albanian I wish the radicals and nationalists govern Serbia. Honestly doesn't bother me at all. And I tell you why? I am absolutelty SURE (and I have been proved right here so far here in B92) that Serbia will NEVER get Kosova back. I have said in the past that should the radicals and Kostunica's party govern Serbia there will be an a huge wave of countries in recognising Kosova as an independent country from Serbia. Then Serbia will turn again into polls and then you will see how funny it will be the Serbian politics. Who is going to blame Kostunica and Nikolic? Let wait and see! Read my lips!

Actually, the opposite is true. With Tadic winning the last presidential elections, it gave the US the incentive to try and rip Kosovo from Serbia. If the Radicals come into power, it would make it so much harder for Pristina to try and rip away Northern Kosovo as well, since they do not have any representation in that region. Remeber what happened when they tried to force their way in and impose their own will on people a few months back.

Commentator you are right of course that the one with the most mandates will form the government. Its patently logical and obvious.

However, you are wrong in saying that without Tadic's 'multiparty' (2 party) coalition DS would have come second to SRS.

If you saying this then you must believe that G17 accounted for more than 8.5 percent of the coalitions vote.

I think most people, apart from G17 supporters perhaps, realise that G17 would have barely passed the census on their own. Very likely then that DS beat SRS.

Still, that isn't the end total that matters.

Obviously you are not familiar with the workings of a multi-party democracy. In such a system it does not matter which party (or coalition) receives the most votes if the amount they receive is insufficient to form a government. A government is formed when a party or combination of parties has a majority of seats in parliament. It is as simple as that.

In Serbia at the moment this can happen in a few different ways. If SRS/DSS/SPS make an agreement and coalesce then they will be the government. That is the way multi-party democracy works. Similarly, if Tadic manages to gather 126 or more MPs together, they will form the government. It's not rocket science.

All this guff from Tadic about the "will" of the people is just blather.

Tadic sounds about the same. His handlers must be turning up the pressure and he's about to implode. Next thing you know the poor fellow will be forging signitures on coalition agreements while blathering about mandates and the will of the........ what a tool.

"Boris Tadić says that he knows the name of the future prime minister...."

Looks like Tadic wasn't reading what most people were saying on the B92 blogs yesterday.... for Christ's sake stop this nonsense! Let the political process run it's course and well see who comes up with the majority.

If you are an honourable person, sit back, shut up, and let the elected MPs work this out.

BTW, EA, you also have Tadic's disease, the government will be formed by whoever can get a majority in parliment - THAT is the will of the Serbian people (or any people in a real democracy).

And finally, it is incorrect to say Tadic's party won the most votes, the DS was just one party in a multi party coalition, the most popular *single* political party in Serbia is.... the Radical party, and has been for quite a while.

Do you still maintain your logic that the most popular party should be the government regardless of the numbers??

That logic is worthless. The SRS understand that, but the "democrats" don't seem to... strange.

Kostunica is not reading the the will of Serbian voters right. During the last Serbian presidential elections he did not support Tadic and Tadic won. During the last Serbian parliamentary election Serbia Tadic party won the most votes of the Serbian people. And he still want to mislead Serbia!!!
It will be interested to see what it is going to happen but Kostunica should be the very last person to be asked to be a prime minister with his record.
