I agree that every empire sees its end, we've seen it with Greece, Rome, Persia, Austro-Hungary, Mongols, Spain, Russia, British Empire, Prussian Empire, Huns, Aztecs, Ottomans, or even our very own Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth or Serbian Empire under Dusan.

However, these Empires fell within tens to hundreds of years of their existence, and none were so predictable as to invest eternity into them. Looking at how it looks now and how it will look for the next couple of hundred years (in any case, further than our lifetimes), the West is the next power, and Serbia should think pragmatically and not nationally. How will it hurt Serbia? It won't! Serbian culture has existed since the 600's, why should the West cause it any harm? For God's sake, it lasted 500 years under Ottoman rule, did it harm Serbian culture? How can anyone convince me that the West can harm Serbia's heritage compared to the bloody Ottomans? Food for thought for all you Serbs.

Peter,
Once upon a time Serbs used to go and look for work in prosperous Chez-land. Than the fortune reversed and Serbs lived better than their ex-employers. Now, it is the other way around – again. My point: it doesn’t matter are people posting here in UK, US or India. Try not to see the picture as a set of individual and unrelated segments.
Every military alliance has it’s beginning and its end. Amen.
Every economic union has it’s beginning and its end. Amen.
Nations and people tend to outlive them all.
When asked about how much the French Revolution contributed to the modern leftist movements , a Chinese general commented it is still premature to say.
Whichever way Serbs choose it is good.
They will be occupying those hills long after the words like NATO, EU, MMF etc. fades from the chronicles.
However, personally, I am Euro-enthusiast … but ... with some reservations. “8 years after” and Serbs are still in the cage? Hardly a sign of a trust and future friendship.

I just have a question:

Why is there over 500 000 Serbs in Germany, 300 000 in the US, 190 000 in Switzerland, 180 000 in Austria, 125 000 in Canada, 90 000 in the UK, 80 000 in France, 100 000 in the Netherlands, 100 000 in Australia, 80 000 in Italy, 75 000 in Sweden and 40 000 in Slovenia compared to not even 5 000 in Russia and probably none living in China and India? Do I even need to answer such a question?

I will answer some other questions: do you think Serbs would rather live in China, Russia or India than enjoy a life where they have a good job, nice house, nice cars, good schools for the kids, everything in the shops, all of life's luxuries, enough money for entertainment and holidays, the best health care and generally a safe, prosperous and stable life in one of these rotting Western countries? Do you think that the same quality of life exists in China, India or Russia if they move Westward? How many Westerners live in Russia, China or India compared to the amount of Indians, Chinese and Russians living in the West, since the East is so prosperous?

Give it a rest already with this nonsensical talk!

The USA and the EU alone make up almost 60% of the world's GDP according to the IMF, I am not even including Japan, South Korea, Canada and Australia! You are honestly comparing this to India and China who are only comparable economically to these countries because they both have populations over a billion each (each outnumbering both the EU and US in terms of population)? Russia is the only country with a decent standard, but it still lags far behind the West in terms of living standards and infrastructure.

I am willing to bet that you are either in the US, EU or one of their allies instead of China, Russia or India!

What future?

The empire their worthless dollar and their €U backers as a union are soon history and the sun rises from the prosperous east, we all know that.

Serbia joining the ruins of their desperate NWO-attempt? No way.

Even if some serbs are willing to eradicate their identity history and religion for a handfull of rotten carrots to the powers that are raping and ripping them apart, i don´t and sure not the majority of us either.

I know I'm not the only one that finds Washingtons comments a disturbing element of unnecessary humiliating interference, so let's have a laugh:

"WASHINGTON -- The U.S. State Department said Serbia’s political parties "need to take into consideration while forming a new government that Serbia’s future is in the EU."
Duh, Serbs read more newspapers than US-Americans, why the superfluous comments? And why should Washington even say that?

"The U.S. “encourages Serbia to look ahead and not backwards... Department spokesperson Sean McCormack said."
Hm, something troubling in the past perhaps? Something not only Serbia can't be proud of, but also the US?

"He also "congratulated the people of Serbia on successful parliamentary elections."
Yes, not much foul play during these elections Washington. Unfortunatly we can't say the same about the elections in the US and the voting machines in Florida, can we now, Jeb Bush?

"According to the first indicators, one party will have the majority in the sense that it will be able to form a government coalition. It is up to the Serbian people and Serbian leaders to decide about their political arrangements,” McCormack said."
Someone give this guy applause. Could it be ANY more obvious?

Has anyone read a more unnecessary statement than his one, ever?

The policy of the likely next government will be Serbia within the EU only with Kosovo.

So the decision will be that of the EU/US. The ball is in your court.

Dear all,

I fully agree with USA point of view.

I think, for Serbia, this is the golden opportunity to move towards EU, in order to avoid further disintegration...

Further division of Serbia, such as Sandjak, Vojvodina and Presevo velley are imminent unless Serbia joins the EU soon.

So stop risking further
