Each having their own integrity and co existing with their neighbours, the only real question now is when will Vojvodina also reclaim what they lost and then everyone will live peacefully and in harmony.

What a stupid and provactive statement. If you havent noticed, Vojvodina has a Serb majority of 65% and its going nowhere. Belgrade I might add is a multiethnic city with large ex Yugo populations (unlike Pristina). How the hell will the region or Serbia live in peace and harmony if the West slices Vojvodina away from Serbia, tell me that. Will you stop at Sandzak, Nis, Preshevo, SE Serbia (Bulgarians). Its seems that some of the mindless nonsense spouted by some of the Albanians suggests that they want nothing more than the total annilihation and destruction of Serbia, to be wiped off the map. Picking up where the Ustashe and Nazis failed to do.

Well here's the news, Kosmet and Vojvodina are still component parts of the Republic of Serbia that stretches from Subotica in the north to the Sar Mountains in the south. Serbia will still be there long after the current NATO occupiers have left. Just ask the Turks, Austrians, Hungarians, Germans, Italians etc. all who have come and gone.

Why should the Kosovo issue be tied to EU integration?

Serbia can join the EU whilst still fighting for Kosovo and should never put the interests of its youth at stake over Kosovo, this is what people mean by isolation. The unemployment rate in Serbia is big (20%), inflation is growing (doubled since 2005), it clearly needs large-scale investment in order to create job opportunities, lower the prices of commodities as well as ease free trade with the prosperous EU states.

I highly doubt that most Serbs under the age of 30 consider Kosovo as more important than falling behind the rest of Europe economically, pragmatism rather than nationalism should be on the minds of the average Serbs right now.

To conclude: Serbia must indeed fight for their past, but not at the cost of the their future, which seems to be the SRS-DSS mentality. SRS calls for closer relations with Russia over the EU if they do not change their stance on Kosovo, but then let me ask you this:

Why has EVERY SINGLE European state (apart form Belarus, but that is also only temporary) that was once an ex-Soviet state or ex-Soviet Satellite pursued a Western path since the choice became apparent? Go on and ask any Pole, Hungarian, Lithuanian, Romanian, Georgian, Ukrainian to get an idea! Why do you think there are big Serbian diasporas in the USA, UK, Germany etc. and not Russia, China, India etc.? You know the answer.

Go west (don't forget your past, but don't let it dictate your future).

“Kosove is the last chapter of this nasty experience… when will Vojvodina also reclaim what they lost and then everyone will live peacefully and in harmony. (Legal, 12 May 2008 19:26)”

IF you think Kosovo is the LAST chapter, then WHY are you talking about Vojvodina? You don’t make any sense, and you seem blissfully unaware that Vojvodina has a Serbian majority.

While “last chapter” makes a great political catch-phrase, its unfortunately completely 100% incorrect.

Either re-form Yugoslavia or reshape Europe on the basis of ethnic makeup.

Both Serbs and Albanians would be the big winners.

Besides its inherently more democratic that way in a future united Europe.

Meda and Everyone else, you are all right, Markovic really means that now its Serbias chance to enter the EU and the same is for The Independent Republic of Kosove, the EU is the place for all indepednetly formed new nations of the Ex Yugoslavia. Kosove is the last chapter of this nasty experience and now the people of the balkans will live in peace side by side. Each having their own integrity and co existing with their neighbours, the only real question now is when will Vojvodina also reclaim what they lost and then everyone will live peacefully and in harmony.

SRS-DSS-NS-SPS-PUPS-JS-LS (mandate of 129) government is cleary the future government.

If SRS and DS-NS (combined mandate 107) can set a framework for the others then it can be formed quite quickly - all have said they are for European integration for ALL of Serbia and the EU needs to understand that this will never be any different and that Serbia will progress as a whole with or without their support since it is the Serbian electorates mandate.

Serbia is not isolating itself by standing up to its principles as a Sovereign state and it would be a very sad reflection on the EU technocrats if they individually as nations isolated Serbia from progression - now that would clearly be a dividing issue in the EU which would become a festering sore very rapidly as Serbia under such a government secured its economic energy with a Russian deal that was in partnership with Italian oil industry aswell as others in the EU. Time to call the EU bluff!!!

The Eucrats would love that complicit and sign at the dotted line Tadic/Delic were to form government but that would be in the worst interest of Serbia as a whole !

I'm wondering if you are just uneducatet or just another stupid serbian ''hero'' ?

reamember 17.th february 2008 when kosovo became an independent nation ?? get that in mind when you are making effort for nothing.

Kosovo will get into EU but without Serbia. Kosovo and Serbia is just a bad dream and you serbs have to wake up before somthing bad happends. Kosovo has it's own goverment, police service and own army. Is it relly so hard to understand that Kosovo is lost for Serbia ??

There's already whispers around the proverbial water-coolers that Markovic will be the one that could make or break Tadic's would-be coalition. And to make matters even more interesting, a coalition with Tadic and Markovic may upset a potential coalition with Jovanovic. Still, I say keep an eye on this man in the coming days and weeks.
