Davidovic has come to prominence by organising protests which have received massive coverage by the Western-owned TV and press in Serbia and abroad.

I would be surprised if Davidovic could muster more than a hundred supporters in the whole of Serbia.

This group, of whom I have never heard, are insignificant and it is obvious that the DS are in a poor state so they are scraping the barrel for anything they can get - and B92 is happy to publish it.

Mud is being thrown all over the place and I'll be glad when the silence comes in.

Everything the DS have done recently is fake. Signing the SAA that is meaningless until Mladic is handed over but otherwise weakens our position on Kosovo. Signing a deal with Fiat that is linked to the SAA but since it won't be ratified, it is also meaningless.

The only time I will hang my head in shame is if the DS somehow come into power but that is not going to happen so I will be one proud Serbian after these elections.

This comes at a good time for my move to Belgrade.

Matthew as far as I'm aware the Serbian interior ministry (led by DSS) labeled Davidovic's group neo-fascist upon the recommendation of police / legal experts. You have other categories such as clero-fascist as well. Its also a clue when the man's nickname is fuhrer. Actually I met him briefly - skinhead in a suit, pretending to be civilised advocating some quasi intellectual unholy theories about mixed ethnic blood etc.

Nobody serious suggest that he has widespread support or that Serbs are sympathetic to nazism. However, it is very worrying when he endorses mainstream political parties.
It is equally worrying that he advocates many of the same sentiments of the mainstream right wing parties as well.

I guess these idiots fantasise that they would lead some kind of quisling paramilitary group which would round up democrats and anti nazis and 'eliminate' them.

They despise the EU, mixing of races, constantly drone on about the ills of multiculturalism. They also oppose capitalism and western values but are not above mimicking the imported skinhead military influenced look including purchasing expensive doctor martens, wearing black etc.

Serbs for the most part, feel that they were victims of Nazism, just like the Jews. Much of my wife’s family perished at the Nazi death camp Jasenovac.

The Hotel you mention was not a testament to Nazism, but a “themed” Hotel, where each room was dedicated to some ruler in history. I agree it was in poor taste, and when the owner realized that, he took it down. It would have had a whole different meaning had it been Germany.

Would you say the same thing if it happened in Israel? There are also Nazi Skin Head movements in Israel too. Would you accuse the Israeli’s of being Ultra-Nationalist Nazi’s?

Recently a bunch were arrested in SE Serbia as they were attempting to celebrate Hitler's birthday. Goes beyond that, theres even a hotel in Belgrade where one can rent an apartment decorated with "full decoration", pictures of Hitler and beyond. While the human rights of ordinary people are beeing strongly violated, the neo-nacism and ultranationalism is beeing tolerated in Serbia! No excuse for such discrace and there can be no freedom or civilized society if a stop to such is not finally put on May 11th.
