Rover MacChroi,
Obviously you know nothing about Serbians if you think Neo-Nazism is on the rise, that it has popular support, or that the Ultra-Nationalists would work with them.
Serbs for the most part, feel that they were victims of Nazism, just like the Jews. Much of my wife’s family perished at the Nazi death camp Jasenovac.
The Hotel you mention was not a testament to Nazism, but a “themed” Hotel, where each room was dedicated to some ruler in history. I agree it was in poor taste, and when the owner realized that, he took it down. It would have had a whole different meaning had it been Germany.
Would you say the same thing if it happened in Israel? There are also Nazi Skin Head movements in Israel too. Would you accuse the Israeli’s of being Ultra-Nationalist Nazi’s?
Merely the fact the all the commentors here, from the far left pro-EU to the die hard Nikolic supporters, all of us are wondering how the hell a Serb could hold a Nazi idealogy.
Rover, I suggest you get out of Belgrade a bit and see the Serbian country side and learn about the real Serbia. They may not be “intellectual” or “alternative” but they are good solid and very honest hard working people.
