"The only way the 30% Serb minority in Bosnia ended up with 50% of the territory via massive ethnic leansing..."

You're such a Hypocrite. the only reason why we have 50% of Bosnia is because we weren't crowded together like the Muslims, We were spread out and we were, are, and always will be the majority of those lands (RS). And also Serbs weren't the only ones to do ethnic cleansing, many serbs died also because the muslims committed genocied. And the serbs have the right to have thier own parliament as much as the Albanians do in Kosmet. Just to mention the fact that there were 98% Serbs in kosovo in the 14th Century ever since the serbs were in the Balkans...

Dim Tuc,

".. The only way the 30% Serb minority in Bosnia ended up with 50% of the territory …"

Misleading over simplification. Most of the Serbs in Bosnia and Herzegovina lived in the country side and Muslims more in the cities. Tradition from Ottoman period, Serbs were "raja" without rights, working the land and local Muslims were privileged, got all positions in the local administration, justice system, they were reach land owners, merchants, government officials, officers e.c.t. So they lived in urban centers.

Good idea. Kosovo Serbs have the right to speak for themselves. Previously, the Kosovo ethnic Albanians would do all the speaking.

"This is the same old process of creating “mini-me Serbias” inside countries that were part of old Yugoslavia to try to make the newly independent nations weak -- but differently from the cases of Bosnia’s Srpska and Croatia’s Krajina, this time hardline Serbs don’t have access to heavy weapons and are patrolled by NATO on all sides...
(Bad Gorilla, 7 May 2008 22:01)"

Exactly Gorilla, this IS the difference, and that difference is very crucial, so why not accept a Serb parliament, negotiate with it, and try to expand the Ahtisaari package so that it allows two federated states, one Serb and one Albanian, to make up independent Kosova? Isn't it obvious that the Serb minority will smply not accept anything less, no matter how good Ahtisaari is on paper, because of their actual experience over the last 8 years - in exactly the same way as you, rightly, won't accept anything less than independence due to your experience under Serbia.

The only way the 30% Serb minority in Bosnia ended up with 50% of the territory via massive ethnic leansing was due to its possession of the enormous quantities of "the heavy weapons" you refer to, from the former Yugoslav army. In the case of Kosova, the small northern region and the handful of tiny enclaves are hardly a similar threat, and can hardly be said to give the Serbs more than their share. And whereas there was a genuinely multi-ethnic heart in Bosnia, at least in majortowns and cities, which was ripped apart and destroyed by 'Srpska' and the Serbia-inspired and directed ethnic cleansing and massacre, you have to admit there has never been a multi-ethnic society in Kosova, and neither side, when in control (Serbia until 1999, Albanians since) have exercised one.

GO for a creative solution. Both sides need to give up one more thing for compromise - Serbia to accept independence, Kosova to accept that this independence needs a Serb parliament, a Serb entity, as part of it - the Annan Plan for Cyprus solution.

what is DISGUSTING is the fact that there was over 30,000 Serbs just in Pristina in 1990, how many are there now? 3, 4??

This is funny, it is almost the same as the Ahtisaari plan, but with a different name, and coming from the Serb part, so now it is good, :). The Kosovo ministry of Serbia must have copied and pasted the parts on Serb's rights in Kosovo it and changed its name.

"Serbs in Kosova have a constitution, and Ahtisaris plan, which gave you the biggest minority rights in the whole world. So use it wisely, before you are left with normal minority rights only."

Serbs in Kosovo have the Serbian constitution, because they are still and will remain part of the Republic of Serbia. The Martti Ahtisaari has been dead for a long time and so stop referring to it. It was actually Serbia that offered the Kosovo Albanians the best autonomy in the world, so please stop stealing and using other people's ideas to make yourself look better than you actually are. The normal minority rights in Kosovo means being either ethnically cleansed, killed, or live behind wire and they have been applied for a long time. The Kosovo Albanians are still a minority in The Republic of Serbia.

This is good idea, Serbs do not have any official representative that can protect their interests. Self proclaimed state supported by most of NATO countries will be against it, because it will hurt their interests. It is up to UN to step up, protect international law and prove the reason why they were formed in the first place.

Kosova is a small country of 2m ppl.

Further fragmentation will not make it functional as a state.

To tackle properly this artificial "issue" of K-Serbs it should be done in this way, in my opinion:

Exchange of territories: North Kosova with southern Serbia, followed by bilateral recognition of two countries Republic of Serbia and Republic of Kosova.

The idea of federalization would bring new ‘ideas’ to be explored/implemented also in Macedonia.

But this would be another consequence of the Serbian irresponsibility towards the stability of the region.

Why 100 thousand K-Serbs in 2M Kosova can have their Parliament and 700 thousand Albanians in 2M Macedonia cannot?

Apparently no one makes these kind of questions in Belgrade- the irresponsible Serbian politics of the 90s is still flourish in Belgrade, unfortunately.

P.S. I would utterly agree to give away 2 hills in northern Kosova if I can get 1M of Albanians under Albanian jurisdiction- so pls Serbia do us this favour ;) in 1999 you already made us possible the UDI now this would be the second great gift to us- so pls. go ahead, DO THE DIRTY JOB FOR US ;))

A Kosovo Serb parliament has my full support for two important reaons:

1. It gives them a voice in a region where their voice is no longer considered relevant.

2. It puts responsibility squarely in their hands; not Pristina's and also not Belgrade's. While such a move may be seen by many as a way of Belgrade influencing through the back door, I'm hopeful such a government will resemble something like RS in Bosnia.

This is an excellent idea. After May 11th, the whole plan to separate Kosovo from Serbia will look very shakey indeed. It will not succeed and the sooner that is realised the better.
