Ruecker: Transfer to EULEX "far from certain"

Although it was expected that the EU will at the end of June take over from the UN mission in Kosovo, this is still uncertain.

"If UNMIK fail to do their duty, Serbian police will take over."
(ZK UK, 29 April 2008 23:34)

I'd like to see the faces of the Serb policemen when they are told "you are going to Kosovo". I would also like to see who will give that order and if it will be followed. How old are you?

I don't understand your point Maks. 1244 is a UN resolution adopted by agreement and placed into law.

It was agreed by the US, UK, France, Russia and China. It states that Kosovo is a province of Serbia and it will remain that way until that resolution is changed and agreed to by the security council. Since Russia and China have absolutely no reason to change it, it will remain in force.

It is that simple.

If UNMIK fail to do their duty, Serbian police will take over. No one needs to ask, it will just happen as Serbia needs to protect its citizen.

It should be clear that Serbia and Russia with backing from China will block anything that attempts to override 1244 (without approval).

Since Serbia never accepted resolution 1244, it will be gone when all parties that agree to implement this will decide to ceased it.
Serbia chosen to not accept it and has no say on it. This is just propaganda for internal use. None will ask Serbia what to do with their UNMIK organization in Kosovo.

What Ruecker is actually saying (between the lines) is:
Yes, we messed up and miscalculated. Support for inDependent KosovO did not materialize and the opposition is powerful and unsurmontable. Now it's time to start saving face and figure out how to reverse an obvious mistake and prevent riots which will for sure happen once K-Albanians realize that they built the Newborn monument...for nothing. To sum it up, what he is really saying is:
Oh my god, how did we get ourselves in this mess and what do we do now.

> "When the new Kosovo constitution takes force, we will have to consider the situation very carefully. We will probably face a situation where our mandate, as we knew it, will not be implemented any longer," the UN mission chief in Kosovo said.

Ruecker.. why are you still making noises. Thought you would be busy packing your bags.

And as the UN mission chief in Kosovo, you have no place making comments about future UN policy. That is the province of your superiors & the UN SC.

Your ONLY role is to implement UN policy. Not to make it. And not to comment on it - especially while you still retain your current position.

And remember.. UN resolution 1244 still applies, ahtisaari's status plan does not have the approval of the UN SC, & EULEX has no legal status in Kosovo.

On a different note, according to wikipedia, the number of countries that have officially recognised the independence of Thaci's pseudo-state has dropped from 39 to 38.

Seems that Malaysia has not actually recognised it afterall.

Oops.

I first mentioned something about this last week - post #53, in my reply to 'funcakes':

In the interim, wikipedia has updated (& downgraded) pseudo-states recognition status. Those interested can check out the discussion page of wikipedia's 'recognition' article:

If UNMIK for some reason fails in its duty or is somehow removed, that will permit Serbian police to return to the province.

This recognition of NATOs occupation will be blocked at every corner and it will just be a matter of time before they can maneuver no more.

Patience is all we need as the Albanians are more likely to boot NATO once their plans come to a halt.
