I don't accept Kostunica's game. There are many issues that are strongly contrasting in the policies of DS and SRS. Kostunica, knowing that either DS or SRS will be the biggest parliamentary and government forming party, must declare the direction of his party. Otherwise he confirms that he and DSS are nothing but opportunists.

I guess Kostunica is praying not to find himself and DSS in government with SRS. He knows that in said case he would be working against many unquestionably good results that DS and DSS have achieved.

bganon is right with his words. But what can be said about ZK UK who writes like this: "Democracy is just a way for the global dictators to control the world"?

DS made mistake after previous parliamentary elections. Even if this sounds as masochistic daydreaming I must say that DS should have let SRS to form the government. With or without DSS. That experiment would be over by now, with results to be observed. And we would also know the cards Kostunica hides in his sleeve.

If there was a kingmaker last time it was, undoubtly, the DS.

Dear Marko !

You don't have to worry cause I like Kostunica especially the position he holds now over K&M province. And I am too far from comparing him with Yushenko in anything but the GOLDEN SHARE they both enjoy while supported by comparitevely small part of their peoples.

I couldn't help mentioning the background of Yushenko only because I hate him so much. You will be surprised to know that the veterans of the faschist UPA and UNSO are now equal to those who fought Hitler. And his father used to be an informer in Oswentzym which explain many things including his pathological Rusofobia.

Nothing of the kind can be told of Voislav to be a noble man. But you will agree that keeping the golden share with some 10-15% support is not quite honest. I should say that lately the respect for him has increased in Russia too. But to be honest if I were a Serb I would vote for Nikolic. He is the one to obtain good will power and capable to consolidate the nation. I can see little radicalism in his speeches if compared to those of Kostunica. But because Nikolic relies on a much wider support of the Serbs he should be number one in this trio with Kostunica and Ilic to come next. But because of the split in the elite it comes like in the Ukraine where the President has rather little support in the Parliament and the population but still manages to rule ... I believe it to be unjust both in Serbia and in Ukraine or any other country.

Marko I do hope there's no more misunderstanding concerned Kostunica. You made me reveal my sympathies among the Serbian politicians which I always tried to avoid. I really like Nikolic and I back for the positions to be clearified before 11 May. It's not the time when they can seat on two chairs.

Good Luck ! Lt's get ready for the Easter !

Luciano,

I totally agree with you and to add:
Shame that SRS will be the political stream that will cash up huge benefit upon past deeds of Mr Kostunica who was hard working long time, carving a reconciling middle line for all Serbs.
But yey hey can anybody explain that to the rampant conservative Serbs?

I am very often in complete agreement with your position, but i disagree with you on this. Firstly Kostunica's political pedigree is ideal. He is a legal expert, his people were not Nazi informers, and he was an anti communist before it was popular to be one in Yugoslavia.

His popularity is growing, and he is respected and feared in the west. Kostunica risked his life to bring down Milosevevic and he risked his job to bring down the western sellout government. A growing number of Serbs appreciate that he brought down two shameful Governments and we have faith that he will restore respect to the Serbian People.

People who support Kostunica realize that we need to do business with Europe, but Europe does not have to like us, we only require that they affirm Serbia's right to exist.

With the proper introduction I think Russians would like Kostunica and Ilic as much as the Serbs like Putin and Medvedev.

I only want what's best for Serbia also and I believe that DSS offer it.

Koštunica is the balance between SRS and DS and will keep both in order because on their own they are likely to do something stupid.

SRS would lean too far to the East (Russia/China) whereas DS would lean too far to the West (US/EU). Therefore we need someone to keep the balance and Koštunica is the man.

I have to agree with luciano, he is the best we have. Just accept the political games that get played. Each are trying to get as many votes as possible but try and look beyond that.

There is no going back with Serbia's economic progress. It does not really matter who is in power. Opportunities attract money and there are plenty in Serbia!

I'm not saying he should disadvantage his party. I'm saying that its up to the rest of us to point out the opportunism behind that.

Where is the principle in entertaining the idea of going into a deal with a party that you says 'scaremongers' tries to 'sell' Kosovo etc.

Tadic may have his strategy but that doesn't mean that I have to support it - even if I am certain that Serbia will prosper more under DS than under DSS.

For example if DS were to head a government propped up by SPS it would be unprincipled - because SPS would demand an end to activity with regard to judicial process on cigarette smuggling etc as the price.

So in your book I am supposed to just fall in line (like a lemming) and say 'oh yes, why can't you understand what is best for Tadic.

To hell with what is best for Kostunica, Tadic or Nikolic. I want what is best for Serbia.

Logically Nicolic is right. Here's the moment of true and the Serbs have to know such things before they go to vote. Strategically Nicolic made a wise step. If now the DSS plannings remain unrevealed some of their voters may leave for SRS and some for DS. Such developments may lead to a more desicive victory of Nikolic to be able to form a coalition even without DSS.

But Kostunica is interested to open the cards only after the elections are held. With rather small support among the electorate he certainly means to enjoy the golden share to remain at the rule. We have the same situation in the Ukraine where President Yushenko ( whose father was a Nazi informator and whose wife is supposed to be a CIA agent ) with only 7 to 13 % of public support remains at the state power for almost 4 years.

Anyway Serbia is now vital interested to have a ruling coalition supported by vast majority of the people so all patriotic forces and not only the DSS should be open and frank before the voting started.

why would Kostunica want to make a deal before the terms and facts were clear?

It is clear that Kostunica is going toward a king-maker position, and he should be wise to do so carefully

bganon, I don't really understand your point. Why should he disadvantage his party?

As far as I'm concerned, a strong vote for DSS is in the interests of Serbia so Koštunica is following the correct path.

Voters have the right to abstain or change if their party is in conflict with their views so each party needs to determine its own election strategy to get as many votes as possible.

The strategy of Tadic and Co (DS) is to scaremonger, lie and allow the EU/US to meddle in Serbian elections because they believe that will maximise votes.

Democracy is just a way for the global dictators to control the world. It is used and abused however they see fit.

bganon

pre 16 godina

ZK don't voters have the right to know which party DSS will back before, rather than after they have casted their votes?

I know what is in Kostunica's interest, but I thought we cared more about Serbia's interest.

By not alligninig his party to any other, Koštunica is doing the right thing as his supporters would otherwise see their vote going to either the SRS or DS. This would not work in his favour.

By keeping his options open, this should maximise votes collected and make Koštunica the key player in coalition talks.

In all likelihood, he will form a coalition with SRS/DSS-NS/SPS but there is no point discussing that now.
