PM Vojislav Koštunica says signing the SAA with the EU isn't in Serbia’s state or national interests, as it will be interpreted as approving Kosovo’s independence.

Whatever you say about the EU its still miles better than living in Serbia.
Thats why there is so many Serbs that keep on leaving and looking for jobs elsewhere. Its a pity that the visa rules stops Serbs from travelling freely and seeing how the rest of Europe lives. I have 4 holidays a year, my friends in Serbia havent had one for years.

The SAA is not in Serbia's interest, this is correct. The EU will not fight corruption, they will actually sign deals with the corrupt people in power. This is how it happened in Romania, where no corrupt people have been identified to date. The EU will not bring good living, this is not their purpose: they will, in fact, extract wealth and interests from Serbia. The problem is, they will not allow you to develop economically until you join them. This is how it works: by blackmail, harassment and the policy of force. Did you not see that until now?

"1. Structural change as the economy adjusts to new trade patterns. E.g. many industries will not be able to compete with lower costs in the West

2. With free movement of labour and capital, the most skilled and mobile workers may go from East to West to take advantage of higher benefits and wages. This could weaken the economy"

I'm sorry, but i guess, you got something wrong in your thoughts. Having a look at the current "economy movement" you will see, that more and more big business industries are moving from west to east, and not from east to west, because the wages and fix costs are much lower in eastern european countries.

This happens even in Germany - so tell me, which so skilled workers will leave to western european countries, when the western european countries have such a high unemployment rate because their "economy movement" works the other way.

Best example in the last time: Nokia closed an industry site in Germany and 4000 + x Workers get unemployed, because they moved to a little town in Romania.

In my honest opinion, Serbia would get benefit from signing the SAA and workes won't leave to the western european states. Sounds to me like Propaganda.

That 80% of UN countries, most of them are UNDECIDED which does not mean they will not recognize Kosova right away. The important part is the neighboring countries where most of our trading will happen to recognize Kosova. So only a handful of countries have officially said they wont recognize Kosova. The country you counted on CANADA recognized us and see Quebec did not seceed nor did Vermont from US.

These are the disadvantages of joining EU...apart from loosing Kosovo...!

National governments don’t have the final say on some issues affecting their citizens (loss of sovereignty).

Member states aren’t free to act alone in some situations.

The EU costs money to run.

And these are specific disadvantages of EU membership for Eastern European countries

1. Structural change as the economy adjusts to new trade patterns. E.g. many industries will not be able to compete with lower costs in the West

2. With free movement of labour and capital, the most skilled and mobile workers may go from East to West to take advantage of higher benefits and wages. This could weaken the economy

3. Agriculture may need to be reformed because the EU will not want to give large subsidies to inefficient farmers in the East. This could cause problems in rural areas.

4. Difficulty of extending single currency as economies are not close enough

5. Loss of independence in many areas

6. The Legal and economic framework of the former command economies lag behind many EU countries however this is not an insurmountable problem.

Why would anyone in their right senses even think about joining EU or signing the SAA?

"SAA not in Serbia's state interests"-

So many reasons -
It compromises on Kosovo...
It inhibits outside of EU investments...
Most EU countries are suffering fro high inflation and low growth, known as stagflation...
EU's mad schemes of bio-fuels are bound to increase the food shortage...
Countries outside Eurozone are like reserves in the EU football team, never to benefit, except for some visas and tied like captives...

Its like committing suicide if Serbia indeed attempts to sign the SAA.
Probably some Judases want that?

Kostunica is technically right, EU integration is not in Serbia's state interests. EU integration promises to drastically curb government corruption, end the economic oligopoly of Milosevic-era tycoons who prop up state officeholders like Kostunica, and severely reduce the state's continuing undue role in the Serbian economy. On the other hand, these consequences of EU integration, evident from Ireland to the Baltics, would be great for the average Serbian citizen. Kostunica should stop caring so much about the "state", and start caring about the Serbian people. Of course, he sees himself as the state, so that would not be in his own self-interest either.

I can tell Kostunica a quick and dirty way to fix his troubles with SAA. Make a pact with his buddy, Slovakian Foreign Minister Jan Kubiš, for Slovakia to refuse to accept signing of SAA on the grounds of serbian refusal to deliver war criminals. (just in case Hollands retreats from its demands). That way no SAA for Serbia and Kostunica will be a "hero".

brilliant miri. i suppose you think the Radicals would attract more foreign investment too?
