Roma are people, and no they were not 'built' at all. What you meant to write (I am guessing) is 'Rome wasn't built in a day'.

I hardly think that such idiom can be used in association with Kosovo's unilateral deceleration of independence.
'Rome wasn't built in a day' refers to taking long time to create something of high quality or impressive.

Ironically, the Kosovo situation is the exact opposite.

With Kosovo gone forever , ironically it looks a lot like the old Yugoslavia has been diminished little by little since disintegration in 80’s started so is been almost 30 years, and yet the disintegration in Serbia itself jest started if the wind blows against pro European Community.
Kosovo is working step by step in fulfilling its standards of join EC and world Organisation ,but people must understand that ,,Roma wasn’t build for a day’’ which means that Kosovo will be fully build for 3-5 years and ready to be integrated fully in EC,NATU ,UN .

Oh yes, I almost forgot that there was a faild attemtp by some disloyal citizens living in Southern parts of Serbia to "pull the fast one" and declare some kind of independence. If I remember correctly a handfull of countries led by US (the world's troublemaker) even made a symbolic gesture of recognizing that blatant violation of international law. Looks like Marshall Ilands (yet antoher poppet state) got the memo late.

# 33,

If you are so succesful, I suggest that you no longer accept any financial support from the EU. I think it is a shame that part of my tax money is wasted on an economically non viable "state" where minorities are forced to live in enclaves guarded by UN soldiers.

what did you mean with the word WORK. I have never seen kosovo people working - except - criminal activity but this is a diferent work :-)

okay, i am not the first to comment so, but i must insist: free speech is a vital and important thing, absolutely; BUT ethnic slurs of any sort have no place on any forum with integrity. how do such comments "slip through"? how, how, how? or is it that they are published on purpose, like that recent one about "i'd rather have one of them (i am paraphrasing) eat my liver with with a good bottle of cianti..." why does such OBvious hate speech consistently make print here??

and yes, i do congratulate my friends in newly independent kosova for yet another recognition -- each and every one is important, brings joy, adds credibility to this process that cannot be turned back despite what some extremists hope and pray(?)for. for those who emphasize your nation's problems and lackings, you should acknowledge the challenges, move forward, and consider the source of these cheap shots. as if that country isn't beset by its own overwhelming challenges, from which i personally find little joy.

and about the marshall islands -- yes, many dark and awful things have been done in our past, and present (the US, that is) and other countries as well, and we need to take responsibility for them. but it doesn't somehow give everyone else the right to perpetuate evil, on the grounds that "the US does bad things too!" that is bizarre and cynical logic, to say the least. whatever the american or any other govt does, you must try to hold up your own nations to the highest standards of civil liberties and human rights, as we also try to do here. no cheap and cynical excuses accepted...

As long as I remember, Kosova Albanians are still looking up to real democracies, as we were doing since the 60's. Even though Marshall Islands doesn't mean Japan or US, we remain confident in our success before the end of the year. We can also say that we already are successful. Serbia does not control Dardania, it only controls "puppets" there (as long as it is your favourite word). When Dardania will invest in Serbia, only at that moment you'll realise 19th cetury's over.

And I am asking you this:
What is more important? to be recognised by Marshall islands at the other end of the world or to be recognised by your neighbours (which you arent)?

Agreed, the stuff about Kosovo people not working except to be involved in crime is completely out of order, stereotypical, and racist, and I am NOT a supporter of an independent Kosovo, at all!

As for the Marshall Islands' recognition, it's all starting to look rather like the list of the countries and small island states involved in the "coalition of the willing", isn't it?

Formally recognized by 7 out of 7 G7 Member Countries (100%, but no G7 membership)

Formally recognized by 3 out of 5 UN Security Council Permanent Member States (60% but Russian veto will mean no UN membership)

Formally recognized by 18 out of 27 European Union Member (67%, but no EU membership)

Formally recognized by 19 out of 26 NATO Member (73%, but no NATO membership)

Formally recognized by 26 out of 47 Council of Europe Member (55%, but no Council of Europe membership)

Formally recognized by 37 out of 192 United Nations members States (19% and the 60% before already meant no UN membership)

If the Kosovo Albanian visitors here would be more excited about the recognition by the Marshall Islands I would get the impression that the really cared. They only care when they can brag about support by so-called big and rich countries. I had also expected a lot of defense against the pro-Serbian comments here (at least they have a good and honest sense of humor). If the US and Europe get into a serious economical resession pet projects funding like Kosovo will get slashed first, no matter all the promises made before. Anyway, the above statistics sometimes looks OK, but in the end the result is always the same. No membership for anything (maybe "the axis of evil" (GWB invention) would be happy to offer you an honory membership). I wonder if Kosovo politicians are so dumb to openly support independence for Tibet or Palestine (they deserve it much more than Kosovo Albanians). Anyway, China is already quite upset with the West and so a Chinese veto in the UNSC is also very likely.

You are right you will not "BUY IT" but will be forced to do it. They have no choice (not just Marshal Islands) America "owns" many countries in the world. Now they have to return favours for the USA. I am glad you understand. Its like the mafia. USA does one little thing to help then you owe them big time like allowing bases to be built on international land. Why do you think people keep on saying they were "forced" to recognize.

You folks are funny.

The only thing that matters is that a country is a UN member. Marshall Islands is a UN member and it therefore has a vote.

Speaking of relevance... Serbia conducts its economic activities with only a handful of countries....almost all of them European. So, practically speaking, as far as Serbia is concerned, countries like say, the Philippines, India, UAE, Argentina, Brazil, Indonesia, Chile,...etc., etc. are about as economically relevant to Serbia as the Marshall Islands are to Kosovo.

Must admit, I had to look them up. According to Wikipedia, there are 62,000 Marshallese clinging to 29 atolls and 5 isolated islands in the middle of the Pacific. Perhaps significantly, US government assistance is the mainstay of the economy and the archipelago has been the site of 66 nuclear weapons tests.

Yes, they'll be dancing in the streets of Pristina tonight...

"According to media in Priština, this is the first new recognition of Kosovo’s independence for three weeks."

Looks like things are getting pretty desperate for the Snake when the US has to now force its own protectorates to recognise its puppet creation.

I wonder what happeend to all the talk about 120+ states recognising 'Kosova' in the first 4 weeks. Looks like all the hard work by Jeremic & Co. is paying off nicely.

Money well spent I say. :))

As taken from the CIA website.

After almost four decades under US administration as the easternmost part of the UN Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, the Marshall Islands attained independence in 1986 under a Compact of Free Association. Compensation claims continue as a result of US nuclear testing on some of the atolls between 1947 and 1962. The Marshall Islands hosts the US Army Kwajalein Atoll (USAKA) Reagan Missile Test Site, a key installation in the US missile defense network.

Need I say more?

"Comments which include insults, indecencies, racial or national hate messages and intolerance of any kind will not be published."

The point is, as a Kosovar I would rather live under the influence of US, Britain and the west than Serbia the most "democratic" state in Balkans.

"As taken from the CIA website."

Since you been there, have you seen the map of Serbia in CIA's website?

With Kosova gone, ironically it looks a lot like the old Yugoslavia but much much smaller.

I don't expect any significant announcements, for or against Kosovo UDI, until after the Serbian election. The fence-sitters will see which way the wind blows in Serbia before they announce their stance. And even then I expect there will be many countries that will bury their heads in the sand and stay mum on the issue.

So when the big powers or smaller countries recognize Kosova/o is not good enough? When will it be? I guess by your reasoning as long as Serbia,Russia and Cyprus don't nobody else really matters! Live and let live...

what did you mean with the word WORK.

"According to media in Priština, this is the first new recognition of Kosovo’s independence for three weeks."

Looks like things are getting pretty desperate for the Snake when the US has to now force its own protectorates to recognise its puppet creation.

I wonder what happeend to all the talk about 120+ states recognising 'Kosova' in the first 4 weeks. Looks like all the hard work by Jeremic & Co. is paying off nicely.

Money well spent I say. :))

With Kosovo gone forever , ironically it looks a lot like the old Yugoslavia has been diminished little by little since disintegration in 80’s started so is been almost 30 years, and yet the disintegration in Serbia itself jest started if the wind blows against pro European Community.
Kosovo is working step by step in fulfilling its standards of join EC and world Organisation ,but people must understand that ,,Roma wasn’t build for a day’’ which means that Kosovo will be fully build for 3-5 years and ready to be integrated fully in EC,NATU ,UN .

or have they suddenly discovered a tiny little spark of pride and therefore stay quiet?

And Koha Ditore can now also write on the headlines that Kosovo albanians can visit Marshall Islands without their UNMIM passports! This will probably also be the beginning of a huge investement boom from Marshall islands to the "independent" Kosovo...

# 33,

If you are so succesful, I suggest that you no longer accept any financial support from the EU. I think it is a shame that part of my tax money is wasted on an economically non viable "state" where minorities are forced to live in enclaves guarded by UN soldiers.

Peter Sudyka

It was quite amusing to read this. First there was this wave of big and developed countries, like the States, Japan, Germany, UK, France, Italy, Korea and others, now after almost a month of no recognitions, someone like the Marshall Islands comes forward to recognize Kosovo. Is this the caliber of countries that will recognize Kosovo from now on or will there be big ones?

Did anyone else feel the same way or was I the only one?

The Marshall Islanders were poisoned and killed by nuclear testing by the US - their land became virtually unihabitable - the US has to this day denied the cause and denied compensation to a peaceful and innocent people.

Dave

Must admit, I had to look them up. According to Wikipedia, there are 62,000 Marshallese clinging to 29 atolls and 5 isolated islands in the middle of the Pacific. Perhaps significantly, US government assistance is the mainstay of the economy and the archipelago has been the site of 66 nuclear weapons tests.

Yes, they'll be dancing in the streets of Pristina tonight...

Just a curiosity:

If a citizen of France is called "Frenchman", somebody from USA is called "American", the citizens of Albania, Serbia and Romania are identified as Albanians, Serbs and Romanians respectively, how somebody from Marshall Islands would be named?

I am really worried though about the political instability in Nauru 'cause their 12 member Parliament was disolved and state of emergency was declared on all their 21 sqkm territory. Maybe this situation is preventing them to have a stance on the UDI, who knows!?
I am a fan of small states so Viva Nauru! and hope they will stay on the side of the law in our opinion!

"So the theory of USA forcing others to recognize I don’t buy it."
