Serbia shooting herself in foot -

How about EU/other countries shooting themselves in their feet, by compromising the territorial integrity of Serbia and thereby loosing a chance to be true friends of the Serbian Govt.

For Serbians compromising on these is compromising on all these Serbian...!

All other agreements were signed pre IUDI but it is now different.

The EU, having not recognised Kosmet, needs to clarify Serbia's borders and all will be fine. No other member has entered with undefined borders so why should Serbia be different?

Otherwise there is no point signing when hostile members are attempting to tear Serbia apart and this can only be realised with Serbia within the EU.

Serbia's only protection is to stay out unless Serbia's sovereignty is guaranteed.

As this is unlikely, Serbia needs to build links with friendly nations while preserving existing economic links.

to adrian/bucharest,

Having met twice with Goran Svilanović my view of him is very positive. So I guess he must know that the matter with the SAA is not what's written in it but the way it eventually will be read, interpreted.

Nowadays one must study carefully the deals offered to you in order to see all the possibilities the deal can be interpreted. You must have time and intelligence to amputate all the unwanted twists by adding extra clauses to the deal. You have to have an army of sharpest legal minds battling a similar army on the other side.

EU has already shown that it is ready to use all available means offered by creative interpretation. Therefore I can not agree with Mr. Svilanović when he says that the story that signing the SAA meant recognizing Kosovo independence is false. We can not know how EU majority will one day interpret this matter.

What makes me even more to question Mr. Svilanović's view is his rather vague reasoning he offers against a possible unwanted interpretation of the SAA. He believes that the case is "confirmed by the fact that some EU member states had not and were not planning to recognize Kosovo’s unilateral independence declaration".

I can already hear the ice cracking under his feet. What about if those countries one day decide to recognize Kosovo? And already now the EU majority interprets resolution 1244 another way than those who yet haven't recognized Kosovo. EU majority shruggs its shoulders and says "so what".

@ Sirius Black,

Before you criticise B92, you might want to check your own knowledge of the English language. As it happens, it is perfectly acceptable - if not wholly correct - to use the female gender for inanimate objects in two clear instances: countries and ships.

"Serbia shooting herself in foot". Yes, it is right; Serbia is shooting itself in foot but not like it did to Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo.
More and more in Serbia do understand now that war with neighbors is not a good idea. Doing business and making life easer for its people is good politics.
Now its time to do a race who is going to sign SAA first and who is going to recognize the independence of Kosovo first:):):)
Cheers!

"...the agreement on cooperation in the field of energy, which was signed by Serbia and UNMIK Kosovo separately. Energy Minister Aleksandar Popović must know that. There’s no way that he doesn’t know that Kosovo is currently presiding over the cooperation process in the energy field. Kosovo Minister Slobodan Samardžić took part in the preparation of that agreement,..."

The Serbian politicians hypocrisy glowing.

'The story is not over'
'We are not signing anything'
'We don't recognize kosova'
'Someone wanted a war in Kosova'
'Functional separation- but we don't want to divide kosova'

etc.

what more we need to hear from these bully clowns???

Ahtisari doc must be reviewed the funny 2,500 strong army must be changed and let Kosova function as a state and exercise here authority on the entire country.

I hope this is what EU and White house will realise and do SOON.

Is Svilanovic now employed by the Dutch? Maybe he has forgotten that he is a Serb, employed in Serbia, representing Serbs.

With 'ministers' like these, who needs enemies?

I don't really understand the mindset of pro-european politicians in serbia. The europeans crippled serbia economically through their air-raids. Then they blamed the war entirely on the serbians, and have since been on a search for every serbian they can use as scapegoats--yet terrorists like Hashim Thaci are rewarded with a 'fake' nation and appointed its leader. I don't really see the signals that Europe is sending serbia to elicit a strong leaning to the Union. Furthermore, if the west could have completely crippled our country when we were not part of the Union...I tremble to think of what it could do once we are part of the Union and bound by its laws and resolutions.

The man's words seem rational.
I am very curious what the text of the SAA Serbia-EU really says. Shouldn't be so much different from the other SAAs. Wouldn't be better if the politicians would debate the content of the document? If it's bad, don't sign it, but if it's ok and has no implications on Kosovo ...
