Peter Sudyka I know the aforementioned countries have not recognized kosovo Yet! but hwo says they wont?! besides we are talking 10 years ahead of time and those countries will move on and eventually recognize Kosovo. The only country remaining on the otherside of the pawn is Serbia in regards to recognition. Please dont understimate the governmentas of the countries in question. You might not beleive this but these countries cannot prolong the non-recognition any longer than perhaps next year. Simply because they will send a wrong message to their own seperatsist in their respective countries. By not recognizing Kosovo the seperatsist will take it as their countries they live already feel like they are keeping them against their will in their respective unions. (you know what i mean). the best example is Canada they didnt wait long because that wouldve triggered the Quebeqois. this way Canada showed that they are comfortable on recognizing other peoples self-determenation and at the same time strongly beleive that their country is united, intact and one Canada. therefore there is no need to be cautious about recognizing any country. the same will happen with those countries as they have to show to their own people and the rest of the world that there is no need to panic as their countries are ONE, united and free.
anyhow i hope i made myself clear...I am sure you know what i mean
peace to all

spunky - You're right that there is no dispute between the aforementioned countries and Kosovo, however, it's perfectly logical, if those countries don't even recognize Kosovo's independence, who will they be accepting into the European Union?

Oh but they can. And they will. Spain will not recognize Kosovo because that would set a precedent that the Basque separatist would love to use as an example for why Basque country should separate from Spain.

And I guess Slovakia and Romania will be concerned about how their own minorities might act, so they will simply abstain, or maybe even vote against Kosovo becoming an EU member.

spunky - you need to pay more attention.

spunky,
you're wrong. any current EU member can block/veto any candidate from further progress towards the EU (be it caused by a territorial dispute or not) just as Holland has recently/again blocked Serbia's SAA signing. whether any current EU member would block Kosovo's entry is another question. but I'm afraid that by not blocking Kosovo's EU candidacy/membership they would implicitly recognize the pseudo-state, so until all EU members officially recognize Kosovo don't expect a candidate/membership offer. I suggest you read the relevant treaty instead of 'asking around' for information.

May I remind you that little Cyprus has vetoed big Turkey from entering the EU, who in return has vetoed Cyprus from joining NATO, while Greece recently vetoed Macedonia's entry into NATO, Poland vetoed Russia's entry to the OECD, the same way Russia and China can veto Kosovo from entering the UN, Spain, Romania, Slovakia and Cyprus can veto Kosovo's entry into the EU, Spain, To: Peter Sydyka your comment:
Romania and Slovakia can veto Kosovo's entry into NATO as well. This has happened many times before.

Well I have news for you my friend! What ever you say it might be true in regards to some country vetoing another country from enetering either NATO or EU. however you've got one thing totally wrong my friend and that is Spain, Sllovakia, Romania cannot veto Kosovos EU memnership! I will tell you why!? There is no connection between Kosovo and the above-mentioned countries. there is no territoroal dispute or any other disputes amongst Kosovo and those countries. What i am telling you is the truth. the only country in the world that can veto Kosovo from eneterin EU and Nato is Serbia if it should join these organizations before Kosovo does. The UN assembly is a different story as there are five "vetoing powers". anyways plesae ask around before answering back to me. This is the truth and sometimes reality bites.
Cheers and peace to both sovran nations of Kosovo and Serbia

Mr. Delic , is this part of election campain, if so good for you but one thing, you should know that you cannot stop Kosova from joining the said organization/s.

Peter Sudyka

pre 16 godina

Ahmet, any country can join the IMF, no one can veto Kosovo's entry into it. The executive board does not allow countries to veto anyone, they decide whether someone joins.

However, as far as other organizations go, many countries can. This is not the first time and won't be the last time a state vetoes the entry of another state into an international organization.

May I remind you that little Cyprus has vetoed big Turkey from entering the EU, who in return has vetoed Cyprus from joining NATO, while Greece recently vetoed Macedonia's entry into NATO, Poland vetoed Russia's entry to the OECD, the same way Russia and China can veto Kosovo from entering the UN, Spain, Romania, Slovakia and Cyprus can veto Kosovo's entry into the EU, Spain, Romania and Slovakia can veto Kosovo's entry into NATO as well. This has happened many times before.

America can do nothing to stop countries from vetoing Kosovo's entry anywhere, unless they economically sanction and/or wage war against the countries which block Kosovo, but the chances of that happening are zero.
