Serbia's future is with Russia & the CIS. Having just returned from South America I can see that the forces of western capital want total control of the world economy and of the soverignty of every nation, (including SERBIA). After the Euro currency is intoduced Serbia's citizens will be forced to pay the rent & taxes back to their (New) western masters in HARD currency. Serbians will be left with nothing but the option to work in restaurants or as hotel stewards or cleaning the toilets for their new Western (EU) European overlords, who, by the way have just unilaterally given away Kosovo in direct violation of International Law. The only nation that Serbia can trust is Russia & the only political party that Serbia can trust is Nikolic's Radicals.

Shock therapy isn't exactly the healthiest thing for our country. Look at the disasters currently unfolding with food riots in Egypt and Haiti. If you thought the late-February protests in Belgrade were something, wait till more things get privatized in our country. Doesn't matter if its Western or Russian capital, the point is that the IMF wants capital out of working people's hands and into the hands of private owners. Under 'communist' democracy we had freedom in the workplace but no political freedom. Now under US democracy we have political freedom, but no freedom in the workplace. Let's keep fighting for a system that will give us democracy in both the public and private spheres.

So it´s time for yet another fix of Friedman´s neo-liberal shock-therapy?

What now? Privatization of everything including water & air to american companies? How many will have to go from their jobs this time in order to please IMF?
