Line between Schroeder and Gazprom is well known, on the other hand once this Schroeder's oppinion would be on Putin's order why Schroeder suports Serbian aspirations on EU membership? It is more likely Schroeder express his own point of view and is iportant that such voice sound even from west Europe.

italy,

"unrulable Albanians"!!!!

Oh give me a break for god's sake..why don't you worry on ruling your unrulable SOUTH!!!(i.e. quartieri spagnoli, scampia, palermo, reggio calabria etc)

As for D'Alema don't you think it was logical that HE does the recognition since he was the one who decided the NATO bombing to take off from italy back in 1999 and he said it was right to do it???

When is Serbia and Russia going to realise the K Albanians value their freedom and don't wish for any more talks, by which only Belgrade can keep Kosovo and the K Albaninas can lose their freedom. Their is no such thing as more than autonomy, less than independence, it is just basically limited autonomy, Serbia mights as well say less than independence or less than automony, that is the real truth, Of Course Serbia wish to rule Kosovo again in the future, why else does the Serbian Government wish to keep Kosovo within it's borders.

Interesting... In 1999 he went on television to explain why Germany must join the war against Serbia, now that he's on Putin's payroll... Oh well, why state the obvious?

italy

Schroeder is not so funny as he sounds, now when he works in business. But, I also remember, last month during Italian's recognititon of Kosovo that Mr D'Alema said more times "sorry" to Serbia than "congratulations" to Kosovo, during his speech in front of Ministry of F.A. in Rome. All these things make you think, how totally embarrassing the imposed recognition from USA was to EU countries. Anyway, Serbia cannot renounce on its territory, and USA certainly will not reimburse it, but Europe must. I dont see any other healty solution to this problem. Serbia has no intention to rule unrulable Albanians any more, but the money must come from EU as the recompensation. Then friendship between Serbia and EU will be possible, and USA why not.

Why...the answer is obvious. In Serbian politics...everyone else is out to get the "good", "principled" Serbia...this beacon of democracy, stability , and good neighborly relations.

As far as these guys are concerned, Serbia can do no wrong...it's just everyone else in the world that's twisted.

Felix

Very clever said but in-between the words, the same EU message comes back again: "...though there was not much sense in looking backwards."

And then again: "He told European leaders that it would not be good for the stability of the whole region if the SAA was not signed with Serbia"... What is this rush, can it not be signed after the elections? Why push for it so "hastily". This rush doesn't make it look any good, Mr. Kostunica is right. Why the rush, what is the pressure?

This situation was entirely avoidable. The trouble is that the US (in particular) are treating democratic Serbia like it is still being run by Milosevic. In failing to adapt their thinking they have created a problem that will not go away.
(Bob, 10 April 2008 13:24)

the situation was avoidable, you are absolutely right with your statement, Bob. but why do you accuse not the former Serbian governments for their incapacity to solve the questions on multilateral level? instead of bringing international negotiations to a respectable result, Serbian politicians drove citizens into a change of the constiution - which fulfills Kosovo politics of Milosevic. how can you blame others?

Wish i was Herr Gerrard ..doing nothing for 500.000 euros a year in Nordstream board of chairman !! Anyway it's true that all Tadic friends in western countries that have recognized Kosovo have said all the same thing..the same here in Italy
many politicians were not happy in say yes to Kosovo and they are not in Putin'payroll !

Bob

pre 16 godina

He is right. Serbia has been treated harshly and improperly by the international community. More to the point the international community (US, UK, etc.,) were politically and diplomatically incompetent in putting democratic Serbia in this position. I feel that they behaved so badly that I do want to see the situation kept unstable and for Serbia to succeed in asserting its true ownership of the territiory.

Much more "hasty" were recognitions of Croatia and Bosnia, in early 90-s, which led to the disaster. In that period mr Schroeder was very commited to the "hasty" recognitions. Main mistake is recognition of Kosovo at all. This is main topic, not its "hastiness".

Dragan

pre 16 godina

No Schroeder, it wasn't 'hasty', it was illegal and immoral, as Vladimir Putin has said many times. It has also opened a Pandora's Box.

All these Eurocrats and some inept Serbian politicians seem to think that signing the SAA is some kind of holy grail that will cure all ills in Serbia. What is so great about signing the SAA and how will it help Serbia? Will the Europeans shower Serbia with money the next day and give all Serbian citizens jobs for life? What a joke.
Serbians should realize that nobody will help them except themselves, and they should not listen to anyone but themselves. The Eurocrats are no friends of Serbia, they have shown that over and over again.
Bribery will not work. What Serbia really wants is to be treated fairly, as an equal, to be respected, and for the Europeans to abide by international law - but it seems that is too much to ask.

john LOQJA

Do not be too happy Serbs! He for certain would not have said that if he was chanceller. Now as private citizen he can say anything he want. Nobody will get hurt. And don,t forget he was speaking from Belgrade.

Of course he says that. He is on a Gazprom payroll or as our serb friends would put it. He is under pressure.
