'no one has ever left the EU'

i'm all for a more open europe. like less visa restrictions on travel/work, better trading arrangements, security, etc ......

however,

i haven't closeley examined the long-term effects of financial commitments on EU member countries. getting loans to fund government projects is all well and good as long as you can repay the money. but if there is a problem and you can't repay..... then your at the mercy of your credit supplier. be ready to dance when your master says dance... i see mr.tadic has already learned a few new dance moves. careful mr.tadic..., how softly will your fall be on the 11th may 2008?

By joining EU, Serbia will get $100 bn like Poland, Greece and others.

Sorry Mr. Tadic but look like that the Serbs are more interested to baby-cry over Kosovo than joinning EU. Good luck into eastern block.

President Tadic is right. If EU wanted to offer Serbia SAA, why this has not been done before Kosovo independence statement? Thus it looks that EU could do it before, but from some reason(s) they didn't. This way opens a lot of space for speculations, which is not desirable from pro-european parties.

ONE HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS!!!!!

Poor Tadic, obviously all this “Western Help” is hurting him in the polls. I like the guy I really do, however even I feel he needs to be taking a stronger stance with the EU on the Kosovo issue.

ZK its obvious isn't it - he's 'doing it because he thinks signing will win votes. This is an election after all. You know as I do that if the document is signed it will give Tadic a small boost. The idea might be to suggest if he can succeed in this approach he might succeed in other areas (implying Kosovo).
Self isolation' is his exaggerated claim, although I agree that a SRS government will lower economic growth and decrease foreign investment and poor relations with important countries (thus less foreign investment).

Kostunica on the other hand clearly thinks that anti European sentiment can win him voes. He is also trying to undermine Tadic's 'patriotic' credentials on Kosovo, by making an extreme claim - that Tadic fully intends to recognise Kosovo.

Now explain to me how exactly signing of the SAA will sell Kosovo?

A straight answer please.

Every citizen of Serbia would benefit from EU membership, and because of this no one has ever left [the EU], although the EU is not a cure for all existing problems," Tadić said.

to say it more clearly: there will be no cure by the EU, unless Serbia has solved the problems which it has to solve by itself. or Serbia will go along the way which it does for years now - economical desaster has already started, but none of the politicians is speaking about this in detail. economical crisis will be the cure for Serbia.

Why's he talking stupid stuff? The west has interfered in the elections in Serbia regularily. In 2000 it was Western intervention and funding that got Milosevic kicked out. Why is Tadic not complaining there? Furthermore, Tadic got elected thanks to foreign intervension. So who is he kidding when he says that there should not be foreign intervension? He clearly benefits from it and many people feel that foreign interference is good. I don't think it's good, but many do.

Tadić said he would "sign the SAA as soon as the EU offered it". Although he said he would not speculate on the date, he expressed pessimism that such offer might arrive before May 11.
--

So reading through all of the rhetoric, the key point here is that Tadić is intending to sell Kosovo by signing the SSA. Why would it be offered before May 11 if that is not the case? How will the EU find legal justification for its force without a Serbian signature?

With the SRS/DSS likely to win, it seems the EU/US and Solana are in panic mode.

bganon - tell me why Tadić is threatening to sign the SSA if it is unlikely to be ratified?
