The existence of a country is not linked to the UN membership (e.g. Switzerland).
So the independent Kosova (I used to call it Kosovo but, since it is independent, I should adopt the Albanian name) exists even outside the UN.

Pristina doesn't need me or any prophet to be able to see the writing on the wall at the UN. They only need to see the plight of the Taiwanese who have been trying in vain to enter the UN for decades -- and Kosovo is now in the same boat.

It is a fallacy for you to compare Kosovo with Kostunica. Because Kostunica has no say over Montenegro's independence, it is the Montenegrins who voted to be independent, Kostunica has no veto over this. Unfortunately for Pristina it cannot enter the UN just because it wants to. Because it has no vote (much less a veto) on this matter. You get the picture now I hope!

Serbia needs to reestablish its presence in Kosovo. It has much more legal right to be there than the EU. The right to maintain territorial integrity is guaranteed by 1244 and by the more fundamental agreements in the UN charter. Even 1244 should not be interpreted as preventing Serbia from sending in its police to protect its territory - self defence is a basic right.

The EU will be there illegally and Serbian police should arrest impostors from the EU if they attempt to impose themselves.

Never mind joining the EU - Serbia should resolve its rights over its own territory first.

This UDI is a nonsense, but unless Serbia takes positive steps to reoccupy then any argument is a waste of time.

It is no good sucking up to the EU. Face it, the west LIED when they signed 1244 because they intended to support independence and not to support Serbia's territorial integrity.

I would dare the west to bomb again if Serbia decided to send its police into Kosovo - the international press know that Serbia owns the territory and the support for the UDI is against international law. The west does not have right on its side, and democratic Serbia does.

Western diplomats have been using every trick to tie Serbia in knots. The answer is to call their bluff and go against everything they have been trying to achieve. Serbia should act. Kosovo belongs to Serbia.

Maks, we Serbs are very much aware of the intentions of US and couple of European powers to destroy us. Empire wants to conquer the Serbs…

(Stevan, 8 April 2008 19:02)

Stevan, I didn’t mention what Westerns think about Serbia, I said what Western think about Kosovo. Kosovo was part of Serbian Empire since 13 century (check the history) the same as all western Balkan and today North of Greece. But as all Empires, Serbian Empires is not an exception. It is gone slowly and with part Vojvodina OUT (maybe 30%) and Srbska Republica IN then Serbia will get it own true shape as a natural country of Serbian people.

"… Serbian people will know the truth what EU and Western think about Kosovo…"

Maks, we Serbs are very much aware of the intentions of US and couple of European powers to destroy us. Empire wants to conquer the Serbs. We will resist as we always did, despite the fact that they are much stronger then we are. Nothing new under the sun.

"…who stood against the supreme power of the world …"

Peter, you described it very well, exactly as it is. Mongols were at least honest about their intentions, they didn't try to lie their agenda through. (You know all these stories about saving souls of the savages, spreading civilization, protecting human rights, whatever is the current fashion, as these various western empire builders did / do tell).

Luigi, Italy is nice country, don't be so harsh.

Simple. The world goes through stages. Once it was the Egyptians that were the supreme power in the world, then it was the Greeks, then it was the Romans, then it was the Germanic tribes, then it was the Mongols, then it was the Ottomans, then it was the colonial powers (England, France, Netherlands, Russia, Spain and Portugal), then it was Nazi Germany and the Axis, then it was the Warsaw Pact, now it's NATO. Following the pattern? The most powerful entities in the world always set the rules, those that ally with them/swear allegiance to them will always benefit from them, no matter what their political policies show.

Why do you think Serbia has had it so bad in the past 20 years? Because they were opposed to NATO in the past 20 years, and this is why all other "rogue states" will be shown in a negative light in Western Media, because they do not fulfill the standards that the Western World set. This has not changed since ancient times, when everyone who stood against the supreme power of the world was darkened in the public opinion.

I admire Serbia's backbone in these times, I must say, I wish Poland would learn a thing or two from them, not to mention the Unaligned Movement of the times of Yugoslavia.

It's a tough decision: Serbia's national pride or Serbia's future integration. I am sure Serbia will make the right choice, don't worry if it's not the EU!

Luigi

Why do you ask this? Italy is in the top 10 of largest economies int he world, it is the 4th strongest in the EU and 5th strongest in NATO, it's impact on Western civilization is equal to that of Germans, English, French, Russian and Spanish (art, science, culture, cuisine, music etc.) and your women are almost as beautiful as ours, so what do you have to complain about then Luigi?

Kosovo's Western backers would "not allow Belgrade to compromise the sovereignty of the new state".

"I would not like to see Belgrade wielding a permanent veto over what happens to Kosovo," said Feith.

"This is an independent, sovereign state, recognized by more than 30 of the most important democracies and economies in the world. We do not see it as a helpful proposition that the sovereignty of Kosovo would be impaired in a way as we see now."

Dear Serbian Friends,
Can anyone translate these paragraphs in Serbian so Serbian people will know the truth what EU and Western think about Kosovo and not dream in the middle of the day like Jeremic by spending some vacation days in hot Brazil beaches in the middle of cold Serbian election, or like Kostunica telling them NEVER … NEVER… forgetting that in politics there is no such a word as NEVER.
Kosovo will be a democratic and functional state with the best economical and political support from most advanced democracies in the world like US and EU. End of story.

The ruling sipahi of Kosovo Province is only fooling himself, as seems to be his lot these days.

By actually allowing Serbian elections to take place in Kosovo (which cannot be avoided), that's already a victory for Belgrade's quest to extend sovereignty to the disputed region.

Second, it's a virtual guarantee that SRS is going to sweep the Serb vote in Kosovo. Enclaves notwithstanding, Mitrovica and the north is sure to vote for the "nationalists", as Feith calls them - "national populists" are more appropriate.

Third, once the elections are over and representatives are appointed to their elected post, it will be doubly hard for Feith and the rest of the EU to extend authority in regions that have already indicated they do not want Feith's authority. How does he expect to work the local SRS?

These elections cannot be avoided, and any attempts to halt, nullify, or override them will simply spill over into more unrest and greater resistance by both K Serbs and Belgrade. It's my opinion that the elections will solidify northern Kosovo into an SRS stronghold that will work doubly hard to disengage from any political cooperation with Pristina or the EU.

Feith surely has his work cut out for him, but so far I haven't been impressed with this overly glorified bureaucrat, nor his attempts to steamroll paper thin authority into sectors that he has no legitimacy in.

What's the alternative? Send in the marines? He's already two or three moves from being checkmated.

Dear all,

May 11, Serbian vote is important not only for Serbs in Serbia but also for Serbs in Kosovo.

However, in the near future I think Tadic (as president), Russia, or Serbian diaspora will eventually and/or hopefully shake-up Serbia from its torpor…..about time now…

Serbia needs to wake up from its sleep, day/night dreaming and it is responsible to inform its citizens about the status quo…and its political, economic and social regress…

Serbians need to know that Kosovo is independent, has got its borders, flag, constitution, international recognition (from 5 continents)…from 36 countries who, to a very large extent, shape the world future/order.

Dont fool Serbian about why Kosovo is not accepted by the UN, because

That said the EU mission is already a failure since it has not been sanctioned by the UN and it has no control in the enclaves either not just the North!

Maybe the EU are looking for this partition within partition (definitly seemed supported last summer by many in the EU) for their get out clause - they control the ethnic-Albanians in the rump cetral areas and everyone else can ignore the INLEX mission while all along Serbia remains whole in the eyes of the UN and even the EU which cant since the members are divided with indivdual illegality ?

Our good friend Peter ....you are without doubt one of the most arrogant people I have had the pleasure of not meeting!! Depending on who wins elections in May is how you will decide to deal with the Kosovo problem. If the country are patriotic and proud of their Serbian roots and heritage and vote Nikolic - you will deal one way - but if they vote for the pro-Western parties, you will deal with them another way!!

Incredible....the UN cannot deal with this problem and genuinely believe that it can be swept under the carpet and forgotten about and in time, the Serbs will forget all about it.....Sorry but that will never happen. Your mission is doomed to failure because it has failed to get the support from all the countries. Only 36 countries out of 192 recognise the illegal partition of Serbia - and no new recognitions for over a week? The international community have suddenly realised that this UDI was not a good move!

Serbia - keep battling, we shall overcome all obstacles placed in our way and rightfully restore Kosovo to Serbia.

And to our Albanian friends...only one veto is required by the 'super 5' club in order for Kosovo to become completely isolated from the world scene - but as part of Serbia it can enjoy all the benefits.

So the independent Kosova (I used to call it Kosovo but, since it is independent, I should adopt the Albanian name) exists even outside the UN.

PRN

1. As far as joining the UN we may wait a little bit…Switzerland joined the UN only in 2002.
2. But since February 17, we have moved forward from every angle. We are NOT like Taiwan, who for several decades got quasi recognition from ONLY 23 states.
3. We are not Bangladesh who for several weeks didn’t even get a single state recognition. For this amount of time we got more recognition than Croatia too.

As far as election are concerned you have a choice between:

Progressive bloc with more or less this administration

1. President : Tadic
2. Prime Minister : Cedomir Jovanovic
3. Foreign Minister: Natasha Kandic
4. Defense Minister: Sutanovac
5. Economy and Finance Minister: Nenad Canak

OR

Regressive bloc with more or less this administration:

1. President: Seselj/Nikolic
2. Prime Minister: Kostunica
3. Foreign Minister: Slobodan Samardgic
4. Defense Minister: Ratko Mladic
5. Economy and Finance: Aleksandar Vučić

I THINK SERBIAN CITIZENS SHOULD MAKE A CHOICE NOW...

Wonder how DS will try to cover this glaring omission by Mr Feith? Sure the EUcrats are only joking?

That said the EU mission is already a failure since it has not been sanctioned by the UN and it has no control in the enclaves either not just the North!

Maybe the EU are looking for this partition within partition (definitly seemed supported last summer by many in the EU) for their get out clause - they control the ethnic-Albanians in the rump cetral areas and everyone else can ignore the INLEX mission while all along Serbia remains whole in the eyes of the UN and even the EU which cant since the members are divided with indivdual illegality ?

Mike

pre 16 godina

Tadic & DS are having the rug pulled from under their feet the EUcrat is stating in public that Tadic/DS government will accept Ahtisaari plan!!!
