"..Sons of the eagle are quite able to look after their own interest given half of a chance.. "

"You are missing the point. I am not bragging about the role of a Kosovan army in itself.. "

Of course you aren't.

"Every month that passes gives your diplomacy heavy blows and I do not understand why you have not thrown in the towel as yet. "

Is not my diplomacy, is Serbia's. Also is not a short term strategy on their part, but long term.

And if you believe that serbs will give up on Kosovo, then think again.

"I am not saying that the recognition in itself is a victory for the Kosovan diplomacy as they are starting from zero, nonetheless recognition up to know has been steady, significant. "

And pace of recognition is slowing & momentum behind recognition is failing. Result will be a fractured 'pseudo-state' with a token army.

It is you who are missing the point.

Seems that the USA is getting rather desperate to gather cannon-fodder armies for its future military adventures. Sad that nations such as Croatia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Albania and now even the NATO puppet state of Kosovo, are being groomed to fight and die for Uncle Sam in Iran, Iraq or elsewhere. Have these people no pride?

Lowe, Peter,
You are missing the point. I am not bragging about the role of a Kosovan army in itself. The message being conveyed to the Serbian side time and time again is that there will be no role for her military outside Serbia. Threat of military power or potential uses of it are out of the picture. A Kosovar Army however modest is another step in highlighting that message. The significance of this army is not in the actual size or capabilities of that army but on the sovereign power invested in her. The message is loud and clear and ignoring it will be detrimental to your side. As for diplomacy I do not think you have anything to show for so far. Every month that passes gives your diplomacy heavy blows and I do not understand why you have not thrown in the towel as yet. I am not saying that the recognition in itself is a victory for the Kosovan diplomacy as they are starting from zero, nonetheless recognition up to know has been steady, significant.

A 'pseudo-army' for a 'pseudo-state' is what it actually amounts to. KFOR are the real guarantors against any military action by either side.

Is beside the point anyway.. Belgrades strategy is built around diplomatic challenges & that of the K-serbs around civil disobedience.

village-bey,

Come down from la la land.
Nato isn't about to hand Pristina tanks and warplanes and other heavy weapons, just light police arms. You will always be dependent on Nato for "protection" (in reality it reads being utterly subservient to them or else). As for joining Nato or EU which requires consent from ALL the members (not just the US), that's a tall call even today. And for UN membership, well, Pristina knows the answer already. In the end, you will still need to come back to negotiate with Belgrade and Moscow.

That is one of the alternative options of securing a viable peace and stability. It worked in Croatia, and Bosnia and it might work even better in Kosova. It is conditional on an antagonistic Serbia, position that by all estimates is bound to continue for a while. Does anyone really believe that the current government would not have used military power had it not been for the NATO presence in Kosova?
In light of this hostile attitude of the northern neighbour, there is no option but to make Kosovo a capable power to counteract any attempt on her sovereignty. Sons of the eagle are quite able to look after their own interest given half of a chance. Readjusting the balance might constitute a step further in convincing Serbia that there is no going back. With Croatia and Albania sure to receive NATO invitation in Bucharest, military options for Serbia seem increasingly slim.
