“ … Serbia, including Kosovo, should be a neutral country. … "

Marko, we already have Camp Bondsteel, a hostile foreign military base on our territory. “Neutrality” in such circumstances and “cooperation” with NATO and “reform” of our Army according to NATO requirements are all certain recopies for our total destruction in not so distant future. What we need is urgent close military cooperation with Russia. We have to modernize our air defense and bulk up our army.

I would welcome Russian base as well. Maybe one in Presevo valley rockets and all sorts of electronic communication to see what’s going around … It would be a great step forward in developing trust between US and Russia, considering that Americans are installing friendly rocket bases all over the place, ever closer to Russian borders… Americans would certainly welcome if Russians do the same to them, wouldn’t they?

“…We have no need for foreign wars…”

The only foreign wars we could theoretically get involved in, would be some NATO imperial project God knows where, Who knows which unfortunate, helpless third world nation will be democratized next. We could be cannon fodder if we join NATO but that will not happen, luckily.

"... big fish eat the smaller fish… “

What do you mean, 19 NATO armies?

that was really all, what Milan Ivanović had to say? yesterday he was afraid of being a victim of attacks - today he wants the Russians sending troops.

I think the idea of a Russian base in Serbia is not in the interests of Serbs or Serbia. We do not need foriegn soldiers on our territory and we do not need to fight proxy wars for the super powers.

Serbia, including Kosovo, should be a neutral country. We have no need for foreign wars. I am not trying to put our good friends in Moscow down, but history has shown us that sometimes big fish eat the smaller fish.

This will be seen when the K Albanians realize that the Centre of political power in Kosovo will always be Bondsteel. So much for their independence!

Zoran, I agree that a Russian base in Serbia would be a good thing, but Tadic has already ruled that out.

He categorically said that there will not be any foreign bases in Serbia, hence providing a perfect environment for the US to set up camp in Kosovo and bully Serbia from there.

Maybe he will be kicked out in the next election like he deserves and then Serbia can invite Russia in.

"The Russians won’t return, because the United States and Pristina simply won’t give up the partition of Kosovo, which has under control of NATO troops everywhere "

==========

That's neither an decision that can be made by the NATO nor Pristina, that's for the UN to decide who is in KFOR and who's not.

KFOR is not nato, KFOR = UN, KFOR has to answer to the UN and not NATO or Pristina

Zoran

I too would like to see the Russians back! However this seems unlikely since the Russians have said more than once they had no intention to do so. I understand their strategic reasons for this and respect their decision. The K-Serbs need protection but this should come from Serbian security forces. The Russians can and should do a lot to help us, maybe a base in South Serbia would be a more beneficial move and one can only hope Beograd will soon have a government inclined to invite them so that Serbia won't get any smaller.

The Russians won’t return, because the United States and Pristina simply won’t give up the partition of Kosovo, which has under control of NATO troops everywhere — including the north of the Ibar river.

The fact is that the Russians left Kosovo because they wanted to do so. It was part of the deal, and everybody knew that would make the kosovo independence easier - what was exactly US and Russia wanted.

uli, let's not be naive.

America doesn't have any more soldiers to send, so much in fact that just recently they asked Russia to help them fight in Afghanistan.

Do you think Americans want your country Albania in NATO because they love you? No, they need disposables to send off to die somewhere. This is the harsh reality.
Sending 1 000 troops in Kosovo while unsecessfully holding 2 fronts in Iraq and Afghanistan and losing?

I don't think so.

"In fact they are going to get 1000 American Soldiers that are landing in Kosova no later then June and they will be stationed in Mitrovica.
(uli, 25 March 2008 16:36) "

=================

No they won't, they are going to bondsteel to relief the troops that are currently stationed there.

The Americans are not that stupid, they are taking enough casualties in Iraq & Afghanistan, they ain't gonna put RESERVE troops into an place like Mitrovica

FYI National Guard are reserve troops, part time soldiers.
