"Why does this Czech even pretend he is Slav?"

Czechs are Slavs and do not need to pretend to be them. They are no less Slavic than Russians or Serbs. The name is probably Jewish or German, but that does not mean all his roots are so, maybe just a small portion along the paternal line. In any case, what is that supposed to mean, that Slavs are inherently against the West, or what?

What "oppression" by Serbs? They had autonomy, refused to learn Serbo-Croatian, had all their schools in Albanian, got a huge percentage of the budget to support them. Do other national minorities get such rights? Let's talk about the treatment of minorities in the UK or Czech Republic shall we? Let's ask the Roma how the Czech government treats them. Give me a break. The Yugoslav/Serbian government had very progressive and sensitive policies towards the Kosovo Albanians. The fact is the Kosovo separatists had an agenda of an ethnically pure Kosovo for decades, and they systematically carried it out from the time of Hitler until today. They targeted every non-Albanian group in Kosovo, not only Serbs, for terror and violence, and successfully drove them out. Tito's policy in Yugoslavia was that a weak Serbia made a strong Yugoslavia, so he accomodated the Kosovo Albanians and made sure the Serb refugees did not return to their homes after Albanian fascists drove them out.

There was no "oppression" of Albanians in Kosovo.

Mirek, your opinion sounds a bit black/white. Milosevic is out of power some ten years, there was no any violence from Serbian part since then but Serbs are from the West still regarded as the only bad on the Balkans. This is bad cliche, very bad and dangerous cliche.

It's not about whether the Czech government will recognize independent Kosovo or not, it will eventually. There's no doubt about it as it is the only right thing to do now, when Kosovo people are finally free after so many years of oppression & violation of their basic human rights by the Serbs.

Let's keep the topic. It means there just 4 ministers of Czech government who declared they would vote for recognition. At least 8 another have big problems. The main reasons are 1. We have horrible expiriance with amputation of our historical lands - Munich 1938 2. It were Serbs who supported us in bad times and we remember it. Without these point the recognition of Kosovo would not be such a big problem here. Let's believe our goverment will continue in reserved relation to recognition of Kosovo. What is Serbian strategy we could support you in now?

Recognition from Check Republic very soon

Schwarzenberg isn't a German name eh? Then please tell me why there are towns in every German speaking country called Schwarzenberg.

When Miri says "everyone" apparently that means the NATO countries. No other countries apparently matter.

What people see is NATO trying to manufacture a state, seize and destroy the heritage and history of people, and allow al-Qaeda affiliated gangsters to run a mafia state that will protect NATO's economic interests in southeast Europe. All the while willfully ignoring international law, even the laws they forced through by means of 78 days of continual bombardment.

miri,

"What Mr. Schwarzenberg says is what everyone sees outside Serbia ......"

Everyone???

Like the 159 UN countries who do not recognise Kosovo??

"Why does this Czech even pretend he is Slav"

Actually "Schwarzenberg" is a jewish name not german.
But nevertheless, what is the meaning of this phrase? Are you lobbying for a "slavic" brotherhood around Serbia to save it from itself?
What Mr. Schwarzenberg says is what everyone sees outside Serbia, something that Mr. Kostunica and his proxies have failed to change.

Is this Schwarzenberg character serious? The burning of 156 churches, keeping Serbs behind barbed wire in ghettos, no freedom of movement or human rights, and he has the nerve to say that this 'government' is behaving ok??
Please, Schwarzenberg, spare us. We know you are under pressure from the the puppet masters, why not just admit that you are a puppet and you are willing to go against your citizens' wishes and recognize this fake, illegal and immoral state just to please your masters - like the good obedient boot licker that you are.
Oh, and with a name like Schwarzenberg, it doesn't surprise me because you are speaking exactly like a German would, not like a Czech.

"Respectably". Yes, well it's easy to look "respectable" when you have UNMIK and KFOR doing your dirty work for you by firing indescriminately at peaceful protesters who just want their jobs back.

March 17, 2004 was "respectable" too I'm guessing. Why does this Czech even pretend he is Slav? He should move to Germany.
