Today is a very sad day because of the thousands of lives lost. Because the NATO intervention only added violence to other violence and tragedy to other tragedies. That is why I protested against the participation of my country, Italy, in the NATO intervention, at that time. That is why we all should say NO to the arrogance of who still thinks that this kind of intervention could be useful for somebody, regardless to international law.

JB N/EIRE, Rusty from Dublin,

´ … It's time to reconcile, forgive, forget if you can, but most importantly to ensure this doesn't happen again … “

It is much to early for the reconciliation. First of all, hostilities have to stop. We are still not that far, aggression against Serbs is going on. Just after that stops can we consider next step, justice have to be done. Each side involved in war(s) in the nineties has to acknowledge their wrong doings, including foreign governments holding string behind the scenes. Demonizing the Serbs and victimizing all others just won’t do it. It works on your public which doesn’t have a clue about the Balkans, but it doesn’t work on us as we see reality with our own eyes every day.

My thoughts are for all our friends, brothers, sisters that suffered SO much during the bombing. I personal think that our friends died in vane. Nato bombed Belgrade without UN approval, italy, D'Alema in particular used us to prove america that despite being a communist he was pro-US, what better chance to bomb belgrade, kill innocent people and smile to F. bush.

Please for once i dont want to read any comments or replies regarding albanians in Kosovo.

Thank you very much, AJDE CRBJA

For Ptoleme:

I am rather perplexed at your post here. If you read the majority of threads, you will see plenty of Albanians posting their opinions - B92 is indeed objective, even printing opinions that are factually incorrect or mildly insulting from Albanians in particular, I notice that the serbian posters here tend to stick to the topic.

You are not forced to post here, so perhaps Fox News is more your foray into quality journalism and balanced news *smirk*

By the way, I'd just like to correct you on one point, Kosovo didn't decide to leave Serbia - Kosovo was stolen from Serbia by the Americans for their own purposes, Albanians had nothing to do with the NATO creation of Kosovo the seperate state!

I again wish to send my apologies for the arrogance of American foreign policy, in relation to the Balkans. After my two years tour with US KFOR in the southern Serbian province of Kos-Met, I ,in confidence, have concluded that our incursions into the Balkans has been the worst US strategic foreign policy mistake since Somalia.

Apologies do not bring people back, one of the interpreters I used to work with in Kos-Met lost a relative in the bombings, but for what its worth this is one US Army Soliders, and one US citizen that understands that this is a joke.

Ptoleme

pre 16 godina

Wow, just wow, I am appalled at B92's lack of objectivity. For a topic such as this, the only mention of main point of this intervention was only made in this agenda intended sentence: "At the end of the war in 1999, as the Serbs were driven out, some 800,000 Albanians, who left the province after the start of the bombing to escape the war, returned to their homes."

How convenient it must be for you folks to just write that these Albanians simply left Kosovo to avoid the war. Wow, just wow. Your ignorance astounds me!!

And you call yourselves journalists? You know I used to think that B92 was better, but now I see that they are from the same breed.

Now I see why Kosovo decided to leave Serbia.

So, still no war crimes prosecutions against NATO. What does that say of the ICTY in the Hague and its 'independence'?

No-one from NATO is responsible for bombing RTS and killing 16 people. Despite the fact that such an operation could only be approved from the top, neither the pilot who dropped the bombs, nor the whole chain of command right up to the Commander in Cheif is responsible for the premeditated killing of civilians.

It was just an 'accident'.

The same sort of 'accident' that lead to the death of over 1 million Iraqis.

It is always 'the other side' who expressly set out to kill civilians and they are persued and punished.

There is no internationl law or justice however supporters of the ICTY like to dress it up. Even the newly set up ICC is organized on different principles to the ICTY which tainted itself as a victors court.

As for why the majority of Serbs went to ICTY, well, their backers weren't powerful enough. Witnesses to Albanian war crimes have been frightened off. Croatian war criminals like Tomislav Mercep who started the violence against serb civilians in East Slavonia remain at large.

Worst of all, General Ante Gotovina, the biggest ethnic cleanser of them all is represented by Greg Kehoe, who has also previously done work for... the United States Military. This is the same military that provided 'ex' soldiers under the guise of MPRI to 'advise' Gotovina and co. whilst they were armed with ex East German weapons by the Germans. The US also provided satellite reconnaissance information directly to the Croatian forces and provided air support.

Gotovina needs to be kept under control to keep the US role under wraps.

The US is guilty of failing to use its influence of stopping war crimes by its proxies as it was in the possession of information that they were very likely to happen.

But, the US and the EU are the law. No war crimes trials for their 'help'. The ICTY on their behalf has apportioned blame as is divined as 'correct', totally ignoring the role of the US and EU in this civil war.

They have blood on their hands and 'international justice' doesn't give a damn.

Those numbers that B 92 shows are not correct but close to been correct. There were 1 million Albanian that lost their homes , their lives, their freedom, their hopes when they were in mass pushed and shipped on trains, on feet to Macedonia/Albania border. That is shame on you Milosevis regime supporters. That is how you wanted to keep Kosova. There were war crimes on both camps, but mostly by Serbian Military. Numbers tell for themselves. What i worred is, you Serbian Government should apology for the wars you have commited to Kosova. Nato did killings too. By the way, If nato was not going to intervene, we all were going to see the third world war.

Only sick and demented people from the most powerfull and richest nations on earth could bomb a small country for 78 days, around the clock. All because that small country dared to put down terrorism within their own borders.
Only sick and demented people can lie to the world about '100,000 slaughtered albanians....Serbs throwing bodies down the Trepca mine shaft...Racak 'massacre'...mass graves...' All of these thigns were proven to be complete lies.
Only sick and demented people can bomb power plants, cigarette factories, RTS buildings, market places, bridges, and call them 'military targets'.
The bombing of Serbia was a war crime, plain and simple, and the people responsible for it such as Albright and Wesley Clark, are still walking freely. Had these people been from any other country other than the US, they would be rotting in jail for war crimes. How they can live with themselves is something only they know. It's a case of 'No morals, no guilt'.
Serbia will never forget these crimes, and the history books will remember these 'humanitarian bombers' for what they really are, proven liars and war criminals.

First my greatest sympathies for all the civilian victims of the war.
It is funny to see how the Serbian leadership try to represent the war as being "the victim"....Don't forget the ethnic cleansing orchastrated by the Serbian regime of Milloshevic. Thanks got the are tones of videos to prove that...))

Joe

Cooks,

Yes the whole world was fully informed about your tragedy, when your money and your pocessions were taken away from you and you were forced to proceed to trains to be expulsed. B92 with an understatement describes it simply "800,000 left the province". B92 my message contains no insult, no indecency and no hate message. Will you have the objectivity to not censure it?

Joe

pre 16 godina

The bombing of Serbia could have been easily avoided but despite last minute warning and visite in Belgrade of the Russian PM Milosevic remained provocative and none compromizing. He tought that the very modern Serbian air defence can take care of NATO. The rest is history.

dd

pre 16 godina

History again repeats itself. Why Serbs again needs to suffer the most – why they need first to oppose the aggressors and world terror state and face the consequences of coward “humanitarian bombing”.
Everybody else can’t wait to cheer up aggressors – repeat of pre-wars in 1918 and 1941 and millions Serbs sacrifice for justice and better cause. It was worth before and probably it will be worth again.
Again and again – they need to slow down expansion of aggressors while Russia needs to get full power and give the final punch as it did to Napoleon, Germans in 1918 and 1945.
It’s terrible suffering on short run and for regular people – it will loose normal life – present and near future. That’s why everybody want’s to make reasonable choice and accept better life and sell proud for it.
But it doesn’t work with Serbian people and their minds. The creator’s and new world order directors again have problems with stubborn and proud Serbian people-minds. They don’t know how to trade and sell itself-pride and dignity for “better” life.

Is it worth it? – logically not – but don’t bet on logic – we’ll see next May what majority of Serbian people think - choose.

On this day I'd particularly like for people to remember civilian casualties of NATO bombardment, whether that was the well known case of Albanians in Kosovo bombed by mistake, Chinese embassy, ordinary people in a passenger train, in a queue at the market, or those workers at RTS.

I find it disappointing that this anniversary is used and abused to promote political messages of one kind or another.

It is about remembering innocent people that were murdered without reason.

Listen to you all...both sides. Is it any wonder this is still going on? It's time to reconcile, forgive, forget if you can, but most importantly to ensure this doesn't happen again. Coming from the province of Ulster i have seen my fair share of pathetic hate campaigns, and the worse thing of all is the way it's carried on by the new generation who should have learned by now, violence achieves nothing.
Please people, stop spouting your hate propoganda, and just listen to yourselves. DO YOU WANT THIS FOR YOUR CHILDREN? Tom, from Ireland: You should be ashamed of yourself, as an Irishman i thought you of all people would take a peaceful neutral stand, or are you one of these people who likes to read books, but has never lived the terror that a paramilitary attack can have on a small village, like Ballykelly when innocent folk from a cross section of the community were murdered.I lived this, did you? I fear my friend, that you have no right to comment or praise either side for you have never seen it.

americans were lucky with milosevic who gave in without making them send ground troops to serbia. they only learned what they avoided years later when they adventured in iraq. but its one and the same failed and frightfully morbid u.s. foreign policy that leaves hundreds of thousandas of dead people behind. when and how did the u.s. mutate into this thing it is now is anybody's guess.

Just wait until one day the US get kicked out of Iraq and Kosovo probably as well. Because that day will come. They will leave in "The Fall of Pristina" and "The Fall of Badgada" just like they left in "The Fall of Saigon".

And the truth of that they really did there will come out. And all the US citizens will ask what were they doing there in the first place.

Here in Western Europe, apart from the terrible
bombings and killings themselves, the most depressing feature of the NATO onslaught on Yugoslavia was the virtually uniform media consensus that this attack was "a good thing". Swayed by seven years of unquestioned anti-Serb propaganda, even those journalists of a left-wing/liberal mindset applauded the NATO action and, if anything, urged them on to greater destruction. I call these people "cluster bomb socialists".

One honourable exception was the Australian journalist John Pilger.

http://www.johnpilger.com/page.asp?partid=203

This man was, of course, vilified by a swarm of supposedly left-leaning, anti-imperialist commentators. In fact the entire period was an unprecedented low point for progressive thought in Western Europe. And now, nine years on, following the Iraq debacle, these people are either strangely silent or pathetically regurgitating the tired old myths.

My thoughts are with the people of Serbia today and may God have mercy on the fallen and their families.

9 years ago, the democratic world did what should had done long time ago.About 1 million people were forced to leave there homes, still remember those days when serbian paramilitary troops came to our house and took all our money and our identity cards and forced us to move to the railway station where arranged trains drove us to macedonian border. That was a state planed cleansing not only physical cleansing but identity as well.

"Estimates differ as to the material damage done to Serbia. The government of that time asked for compensation of damages that it said ran into about USD 100bn. But G17 Plus economists believe the number is at USD 30bn"

That means the NATO states owe Serbia between $30-100 billion. An entirely just cause, which Serbia should have concenrated on, instead of wasting a decade vying to reassert control over 2 million people that want nothing to do with it.

Serbia of course also owes Kosova a lot for the damage it in turn did to Kosova at the same time. But that does not in any way diminish the first fact of what NATO owes Serbia.

What an appropriate time to reinforce the reasons why Nato was dragged by the nose from the Americans into the Serbia and specifically into Kosovo in the first place.

Camp Bondsteel.

The US strategic agenda for Kosovo is primarily military, and its prime focus is against Russia and for control of oil flows from the Caspian Sea to the Middle East into Western Europe. By declaring its independence, Washington gains a weak state which it can fully control. So long as it remained a part of Serbia, that NATO military control would be politically insecure. Today Kosovo is controlled as a military satrapy of NATO, whose KFOR has 16,000 troops there for a tiny population of 2 millions.

US-NATO military control of Kosovo serves several purposes for Washington’s greater geo-strategic agenda. First it enables greater US control over potential oil and gas pipeline routes into the EU from the Caspian and Middle East as well as control of the transport corridors linking the EU to the Black Sea. It also protects the multi-billion dollar heroin trade, which, significantly, has grown to record dimensions in Afghanistan according to UN narcotics officials, since the US occupation. Kosovo and Albania are major heroin transit routes into Europe.

Knag,
How could you say the West trestes Serbs as:"those evil untermensch in the balkans". If it were so EU would not have offered Serbia full membership. It was Milosevic (and now it turns out that not only he) who considered the Kosovo Albanians as: "those evil untermensch in the what we consider to be Serbia" There was (and O my God!, there is) NO WAY in which the Serbs would just let Kosovo go its own way! What has to happan so that the majority of the Serbs say: Kosova Albanians are equal to us. Once we had only authonomy, then we gained independence. If that is what they really want, let them have it. (Please do not give me examples with N. Irland. You know very well that if/when the Catholics become more than the Protestant, N.I. will rejoin the Republic of Irland. The same applies to Quebec, the Land of the Bascs.. etc. This does not apply to the Kurds of caurse, and that is why Turkey has no place in Europe.)

And the truth of that they really did there will come out. And all the US citizens will ask what were they doing there in the first place.

It is much to early for the reconciliation. First of all, hostilities have to stop. We are still not that far, aggression against Serbs is going on. Just after that stops can we consider next step, justice have to be done.

Kosovo and Albania are major heroin transit routes into Europe.

no, no more ds voting. we're alone with europe now, no milosevic in between us, and they're doing worse damage to serbia than in 1999. its over.
and, chronology is key here. kla, which we now know did not only terror against the state, but some of the most horrible and monstrous crimes since the nazis, such as kidnapping serbs and butchering them to take their organs, in 1997 and 1998 started killing our police and civilians in kosovo. there are a number of wholesome albanian indivuduals at the hague because of crimes they committed in 1998. there are no serbs indicted for any crimes in 1998. but in late 1998, americans forced a so called peace conference on serbia, while albanians were committing war crimes. and when serbia rejected what americans wanted forced on us to reward the kidnappers and cop killers and human organs smugglers, americans started bombing serbia. only after the bombing started, did albanians run away. not before. there were no albanian refugees before march 24. just albanians kidnapping serbs, killing policemen, and killing their own who they thought werent collaborating with the terrorists enough.
americans were lucky with milosevic who gave in without making them send ground troops to serbia. they only learned what they avoided years later when they adventured in iraq. but its one and the same failed and frightfully morbid u.s. foreign policy that leaves hundreds of thousandas of dead people behind. when and how did the u.s. mutate into this thing it is now is anybody's guess.

the whole thing was a tragedy, for everyone on all sides. I also think it's a disgrace that it's being used to send political messages, by anyone ...
