As a Montenegrin, I personally believe we too share in some of the guilt for the crimes committed during the wars.

RE: Oxymron

As a descendant from the Pastrovici clan, the conduct of the Montenegrin nation under Djukanovic is shameful to say the least. All so called Montenegrins shold be reminded that parts of Kosovo and Metohija are in present day Kosovo , so if Montenegro denies the existance of Kosovo & Metohija , the deny their own existance and that is an oxymoron if there was ever one.

As far as sharing guilt over Dubrovnik, again, Croatian shells were were being shot from behind the walls in Dubrovnik against the JNA who withheld firing back under JNA orders. However, other paramilitary groups did fire back on Dubrovnik who not under control of the JNA and admiral strugal at the time. Dubrovnik is the jewel of the Adriatic and it's beauty is masked by the tragedy of the Yugoslav civil wars.

As a Montenegrin, I personally believe we too share in some of the guilt for the crimes committed during the wars. All sides committed crimes and all sides need to look deep in their heart and recognize what they’ve done and see the others as human beings. Attacking Dubrovnik was a shameful act and Montenegro needs to acknowledge its role in that. The Croatian government most certainly blames the Montenegrins, every corner of Dubrovnik seems to have a sign loudly declaring it was both Serbs and Montenegrins who attacked Dubrovnik.

I personally feel the movement to distance Serbs and Montenegrins from one another is directly related to the attempt to avoid blame for the crimes committed during the 90’s. It saddens me greatly. Serbs are our brothers, and Albanians are our cousins.

Nearly half the Albanians in Montenegro are refugees from the Kosovo conflict, 16,000 of them. Personally I support partition of Kosovo as a solution and I would even venture to say the people of Pec and Decani would be far better off as a part of Montenegro than anywhere else. These clearly have a great potential for Orthodox tourism, and the Albanian families who traditionally looked over our sacred sites should be celebrated. Montenegro has a fairly established tourism based economy and its small, if properly managed, Montenegro might turn out to be one of the best places on Earth to live. The potential income per person in Montenegro could be very high if they don’t sell everything to foreigners. I don’t support Montenegro recognizing Kosovo, I think Kosovo played a very important role in the Montenegrin identity as well. In reality we helped foster and keep alive the idea of Kosovo with our epic poetry and songs.

Sidi, while I supported Independence (I’m a bit of a royalist) I’m not convinced with such narrow margins if Montenegro was ready for Independence just yet. So, I’m not ready to state that I feel my people owe anything to the Albanian population for voting for independence.

Srboslav, my understanding is the Croatian population of Montenegro is only about 7,000 total. If you have some other information about that please share. I know my family lived in Kotor Bay since the 10th century.

"Montenegro has been sold to the American government in 2009 1/3 of Montenegro will become Albania, the coast will become Croatia and parts of its north will become Serbia. Macedonia will lose a great deal of land to Albania and Kosovo will give up it's Kosovska Mitrovica to Serbia in return for Serb recongition of Kosovo which will then unify with Albania to make a greater Albania. RS will unify with Serbia and parts of Bosnia will become Croatia the Bosnian muslims will be given a choice live in Serbia or Croatia, they will chose Serbia because of Serbia's cultural link to Islam during Ottoman rule for over 500 years. Meanwhile Northern Ireland will declare indep. in late 2008 followed by Scotland and Wales. In early 2009 Greece and Turkey will go into war over Cyprus with hundreds killed, in March 2009 Russia will takeover Ukraine with a heavy war which Russia will win. In late 2009 the Republic of Vermont in the USA will be made, followed by indep Queabec, large portions of Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California will join a new Mexican State.

"If it weren't for the albanian minority..."

LOL! Of course the fact that several hundred thousand Montenegrins who live in Serbia weren't allowed to vote, let alone the diaspora pales into insignificance compared to the albanian minority vote for independence...

BGanon. Curious indeed, yet practical. Djukanovic has cleared Montenegro's decks (so he thinks) and believes that Montengro will join the EU possibly even before Croatia (certainly more easy for the EU to swallo) so is not afraid of a situation whereby Croatia as a member of the EU would use its power to block Montenegrin accession for its own ends, as the Slovenes have been accused of.

Still, Djukanovic's government and new constitution discriminate against diaspora Montenegrins, i.e. even if you were born in Montenegro, you don't have the automatic right to citizenship. Looks like he is afraid of someone after all....

Tsar Milo,
watch you mouth, or the EU and NATO will come and wash it out with soap for you if you dare to challenge the "new world order"

Montenegro will be tolerated so long its against Serbia and follows EU and NATO orders, but if you dare to start questioning them you will be subject to the same demonization that Serbia have been for the last 18 years....

Dont ask about Prevlaka, you might end up losing Boka Kotorska if HDZ gets what they want, and with Germanys and Frances support they will.
After all, over 50 % of the population from Prevlaka to Tivat is croat (exept Herceg Novi wich is Serbian majority), they might want to have "independence" from Orthodox Montenegro!

Better to stay in your luxurios mansion in Podgorica and be a silent partner in the russian privatisation movement of your country, you might even get richer than you already are!

Sidi: The Montenegrins might have gained their independence with the help of Albanian's. However, there were reports of the Montenegrin govt. allowing Albanian's to come in and inflate the the pro independence vote. Serbs that were living in Montenegro had established residency were not allowed to cast their vote. Although i am happy that Montenegro got it's independence, they were an independent country prior to being a part of Yugoslavia. Kosovo was never independent. They can;t claim any moral right. autonomy is the best they should hope for in the end. It would be very disappointing if the new Montenegrin govt. succumbs to western pressure and recognizes a narco-terrorist state.

B92 why don't you publish my post???

It's a fact and very soon will be public.

Macedonia and Montenegro (see Dukanoivic that Montenegro will follow here national interests and will coordinate her position towards Kosova with EU) will recognize Kosova and that will be the end of the Serbian fairytale of illegitimacy.

You will face this reality very soon- it's pointless that you try to hide this things.

Kosova has the same rights to be independent as Montenegro, Macedonia, Slovenia and all ex Yugo countries- this is completely legitimate for the democracies- hence they recognize Kosova as independent state.

It’s a question if you want your country democratic or not- but its your dilemma, nothing to do with Kosova and legitimacy. The game (serbian fallacy) is coming to the end.

Albanians in Montenegro live in a country where they can participate in the country's politics and commerce openly, and for that Albanians should be thankful.

It must be remembered that Montenegro was able to win its well-deserved and much needed independence from Serbia due to the Albanian minority vote there in favor. Otherwise the slim margin which overcame the Serb-nationalist vote would not have happened. In recent years, appart from the Serbs and their parties in Montenegro, the Montenegro government has been more accepting of Albanians than Serbia ever was when it was still in control of Kosova. I expect swift Montenegrin and Macedonian recognition coming up.

Ever since the referendum the government in Montenegro has shifted position. Its interesting to watch how Djukanovic and company have adopted a more pro-Serb position on a number of issues.

Its funny I think that Djukanovićs slogan should be 'a superior position'. It sums him up well.
