Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko voiced the opinion that UNMIK should take responsibility for the death of the Ukrainian soldier.

Well said, Mr. Lutsenko.

UNMIK & KFOR should have gone into the building already on Saturday, 15th of March 2008. Zero tolerance for those, who breach public order in such a way!

God forbid, since he was at it, he could have blamed also the Serb who killed the poor soldier.

Some minister. All that trip for a photo op.

Why are they using Slavic troops against Slavs is it a cheaper life for them less compensation and insurance to pay I think so. Send the Germans and Italians with that kind of fiasco it would not be swept away they would be screaming bloody murder and a cover up would not be in progress. Of course they would be demanding heads to role and talking of with drawing their personnel the price is to high. I guess it is braver for them to bomb at 30,000 feet then they are all so brave lining up for their bravery medals and eagerly waiting for their turn.

Carl Bildt, foreign minister of Sweden also criticises the UNMIK/KFOR operation in Mitrovica on his blog.

He writes:

"I find it very difficult to understand the wiseness of the decision of sending UN Police and KFOR soldiers to cleanse the court building in northern Mitrovica on this particular day – the four year anniversary of the Serb targeted serious riots in Kosovo.

And so it went pretty much as you would fear given the tense situation”.

Correct, it is UNMIK’s responsibility for so badly taken actions. UNMIK officials must give some answers. I wonder why use of such heavy force, including snipers during the arrest of unarmed jurists who even did not resist the arrest.

I would only recommend Mr Lutsenko to withdraw Ukrainian special police forces since they will be always sacrificed in such strategically incredibly stupid moves by UNMIK’s incompetent staff. I would also recommend Polish interior minister to do the same.

"PRIŠTINA -- Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko has criticized UNMIK for their poor handling of the Kosovska Mitrovica riots.
...
"Considering the date, March 17, the operation was very difficult, because we all know what March 17 means to the people in that part of Kosovo. Secondly, I don’t believe there was enough necessary planning before the operation," he stressed. Lutsenko said that Ukraine was not planning to withdraw its troops from Kosovo, for the time being.
...
He voiced the opinion that UNMIK should take responsibility for the death of the Ukrainian soldier and added that otherwise, the issue would be resolved in the Ukrainian parliament. "

As some have stated before, ordering in the troops in secrecy at the crack of dawn on the aniversary of the 2004 Kosovo riots was just about guaranteed to provoke a riot.

And as is apparent, it certainly did.. & the Ukrainians agree..

"Del Ponte: UNMIK hindered Tribunal’s work

BELGRADE -- Former Hague Chief Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte says in her book that UNMIK hindered the Hague Tribunal’s work.

She states in her book, “The Hunt”, that UNMIK hindered the investigation into former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leader Ramush Haradinaj. "

And it seems that UNMIK is showing a pronounced bias towards the K-albanian faction..

High ranking UN officials have asked "serious questions about the purpose of the operation undertaken by KFOR and UNMIK in Kosovska Mitrovica... "

And it seems the high ranking officials in the UN are also asking 'serious questions' about this raid..

"UNMIK chief in Mitrovica to resign
20 March 2008 | 09:51 | Source: B92
BELGRADE -- Head of the UNMIK administration in Mitrovica, U.S. diplomat Gerard Gallucci has tendered his resignation, B92 can confirm.

Gallucci's move was brought about by his dissatisfaction with the UN police operation on March 17 in Kosovska Mitrovica, said an international official. "

And it seems that Gallucci was so dissatisfied with the raid, he resigned.

And what is UNMIK's response to the above?

"UNMIK spokesman Alexander Ivanko said that "responsibility lies exclusively with those who used fire arms and hand grenades against UNMIK police and KFOR, who were performing their duties."

The trouble is mate, it is now no longer just serbs who are questioning the integrity of UNMIK.

And just 'toeing the party line' will no longer be suffient.

Someone is going to answer for this raid.. & this time, I don't think it will be a serb.
Watch the rats run.. Will be interesting to see which rats get stepped on.

This is not true! Ukrainian IM did not blame UNMIK for riots - he blamed UNMIK for failure to authorize use of deadly force by the police and thus protect their lives from the angry mob. He blamed UNMIK for being inefficient in discharging their law enforcement duties, which resulted in death of one Ukrainian police officer. He reiterated that he could not understand why the police units were not authorized for four hours to use deadly force, although they came under armed attack by Serbs in Mitrovica. Only after four hours KFOR took the command and the police officers retreated from the scene. He also blamed UNMIK for poor coordination with KFOR. Please, do not mislead the public!

Ivanko!
Its time to come clean!
Ivanko has been caught up in his own web of deceit. Any investigation on his part will clearly have to be scrutinised very carefully! Maybe more importantly he himself should be investigated as it is now becoming very clear that the action lacked credence as to who gave the order for the action and under what pretext! Or, was this just undertaken to curry favour with the albanian side? after all the peaceful demonstrations to date have been very effective and created a great deal of frustration both to the puppet state run by thaci and UNMIK.
