you know, del ponte also wrote in her book that the albanians were kidnappings serbs and harvesting their organs. for someone who is demonising serbs, why would she devote time to this barbarity?

BalkanUpdate:
Won't even bother to refute your nonsense.

Arzo:

They may be heroes in the eyes of K-albanians, but the truly heroic don't usually get charged with war-crimes.

Is plainly evident to most that Haradinaj at least is guilty, given the actions of UNMIK such as falsifying some documents, 'losing' others & not providing witnesses with adequate protection from retribution for testifying.

These actions are not the actions one would associate with innocence.

And although I personally dislike Carla del Ponte & disagree with some of her findings (only sees things in black or white), I have no doubt that she tell's the truth - that's why she was apointed to the ICTY & the Hague.

Also would be very sad if any person believed that such a one as Haradinaj is portrayed to be, was a 'neccessary' evil - as doesn't bode well for the future of any society in Kosovo.

Stalin was one such 'necessary' evil, & look how that turned out.

ximi:

Presumption of innocence for the trial naturally applies.

So does common sense. See above.

And as for handing himself over, was there really much of an option? And of course, he has the support of Ruecker's UNMIK.

Why wait? Think about who pays the bills at the Hague. And who has the power to hire & fire.

Ruecker isn't working for himself, & neither is he really working for the UN. so must be 'brussels'.

If the witness intimidation works, Haradinaj may very well 'get off'.

If Justice prevails on the other hand, he'll get life.

Take it easy Srboslav!
Karadzic is a war criminal, I have no doubt in my mind.
And Ximi!
Mladic and Karadzic are also innocent until proven guilty, but I wouldn't think it's wise for any UN official to befriend them. It sends the wrong message.

“Jessen-Petersen’s words of praise for Haradinaj showed not only that the UNMIK administration was weak and controlled by Albanians”

This is nonsense, just because a person is accused for crimes doesn’t mean is guilty, until is proved otherwise.

At least Mr. Haradinaj voluntarily handed himself to the tribunal and fully cooperated, is he guilty or not I don’t really know! Again even if comments made by Del Ponte are true, is that sufficient reason for someone to be sentenced guilty, I don’t think so.

‘She states in her book, “The Hunt”, that UNMIK hindered the investigation into former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leader Ramush Haradinaj.’
If that was the case, why wait until now? Why didn’t she say something then?

Ummm, I forgot! she was weak and controlled by Albanians too.

Its no surprise actualy, Unmik needed someone that can keep Kosovas Albanian factions in line and they found the right person.

Lots of you call this man and Thaci a criminal, but they were the reason that a nationalist movement didnt take place again throughout the Serb Enclaves.

Worst of all, hypocrits that call these men war criminals forget the Serbia that did back Milosevic throughout his campaigns Bosnia, Croatia, and Kosova.

Del Ponte is the most incompetent Prosecutor I have ever heard of. Her failures include, but are not limited to: The failure to bring to justice Milosevic, Mladic and Karadzic and the political prosecution of Fatmir Limaj. Notice she never mentioned the Limaj case (this suppose to have been her biggest case against KLA).

This is just her pre-empting the Haradinaj verdict that will come out soon. I guarantee she will scapegoat UMIK when Haradinaj is released. What a miserable failure she is been. She never missed an opportunity to stick her nose in politics of other countries. Just a few months ago she was asking EU to block Serbia’s entry into the union, and then she said EU should not recognize Kosovo’s independence. Good riddance! I guess B92 will have an article for ever page of her book for the rest of the year. This is the fourth news item B92 has had over the last few weeks regarding the contend of Carla Del Pontes book! It must be a slow news day.

Little by little the truth is coming out about the Albanians and their international bodyguards, no matter how much certain people try to hide it.

Actually all of this is important for the historical record. OK in this case we knew or suspected, but she has confirmed it. A good thing then.

Srboslav 'President' Karadzic? Since when was he elevated to that office, in absentia perhaps. And I don't think anybody ever called Karadzic a terrorist - you sound confused.

Are anyone genuinely surprised over this?

And is it so hard to understand why General Mladic and President Karadzic are not surrendering themselves to this kangaroo court?

It will close down in 2010, then Karadzic can make a comeback to the political scene. If ARafat and Thaci once considered terrorists can become presidents and prime minister, then so can Radovan.

peter, sydney

pre 16 godina

The former head of the ICTY says that UNMIK is indirectly protecting the likes of Haradinaj, an ex-KLA terrorist & ex-prime minister of the pseudo-state 'republic of Kosovo', currently on trial for war-crimes in the hague. This includes the current head of UNMIK, Joachim Ruecker.

So why on Earth would any serb place any trust at all in UNMIK.

Ruecker must go. Preferably to trial,

And UNMIK needs an overhaul - & the higher ranks need to have their noses rubbed into UN resolution 1244.

You are not telling us anything that we don't know. This does not matter at all, as for me Tribunal is irrelevant political institution that has nothing to do with court or justice.
Not more then UNMIK has to do with UN.
