I just don't get it. How many times do these people have to be told NO. We don't want to join NATO or the EU.

Why are they still trying so hard to make this happen?
Could it be that they really do need Serbia more than Serbia needs them?

So they want their cake and eat it too. It doesn't work that way with the Serbs. You can buy some people from that area but not the Serbs.

I can't belive that history has taught them nothing. Serbia has never been for sale. They would rather choose death than slavery and they have proved that over and over. What made them think that this time it would be different?

Past empires have crumbled for that very reason and so will this one.

Here's a cost/benefit analysis that each candidate country should consider before joining NATO:

Costs:

1) Spend billions to "update" your military with the latest in American weaponry
2) Send your soldiers to far away places to be used as target practise by fanatical mujahideen

Benefits:

1) NATO will not attack you

Wait? Doesn't this look like racketeering employed by the mafia? Paying for "protection"?

Pyrros

Nemanja from Connecticut,
fully agree on the costs, however i disagree on the benefit. Nothing prevented Turkey a NATO ally to attack Cyprus another NATO ally. In NATO alliance some allies are more allies than the rest.
So the pro-argument holds only for the strong NATO members (who already don't need those guaranties either way).

"...NATO has "unfinished business in Europe".

Yep, and that is as an instrument of the west, to divide and conquer.

"NATO to send strong signal to Serbia"

While I can't speak for the Serbian people, I hope NATO's message will fall on deaf ears.

Yeah Serbia should join NATO, great idea! Wouldn't it be great to send your men/women to participate in bombing, invading & occupying other countries, (just like they did to you) what great fun. Then soon you could participate in confronting Russia, China and other so called "rouge" states in the name of promoting democracy, freedom, free markets, alternative life-styles, matriarchal societies and the worshiping of material prosperity.

You can have all that by just saying yes to NATO membership, I know its hard to pass up right???????????

Lets be clear here. NATO especially but UNMIK also are working for the interests of the Albanians.

The sooner the Serbian areas of Kosovo move control back to Belgrade the better. This plan is in motion and cannot be stopped.

When complete, we can return to the status quo.

Jaap de Hoop Scheffer should be asked why there still exist Belgian enclaves near Baarle Nassau in his home country Holland. And inside some of these Belgian enclaves there exist Dutch enclaves. Belgium separated from Holland in 1830.

How can it be that such a situation hasn't been resolved by now, given such good relations between Holland and Belgium?

John Lucic

NATO should send a message that Serbian interference in the daily operations of Kosovo will be blamed on the authorities in Belgrade! Kosovo is gone and Serbia's officials should convince it's citizens that this reality will not change.

Well well well, NATO people resources are getting thiner and thiner.

Now they thought they'll invite people of Balkans to join NATO, as their lives are disposable, and thus will be alright to send to Iraq, Afghanistan and wherever else Western NATO soldiers are refusing to die.

What a humiliating attempts to recruit! Serbia will never join NATO, and if they're smart, neither should any other country in the Balkans.

Before you join NATO, make sure your leaders read the small print. The small print will then tell you that as a NATO member state you are OBLIGED to send your OWN troops to the areas where NATO is present.

So, whoever is hoping to join this band of thugs, should think of a way of telling their youth :
''Well since there are not really any more wars around Balkan, pack your stuff children, lets go die in Iraq and Afghanistan for American oil''.

This NATO summits and talks send a shiver down my spine. Who would want to send their children to die for someone else?

as far as we have learned, that´s the very same oranisation that has illegally bombed a european country for 78 days. destroying hospitals, schools and tv-stations... and even the chinese embassy.

they should not overemphasize themselves!

Serbia does not need NATO, and it doesn´t need the EU either.

remember, Serbia is the center of the CEFTA-region and in addition to that, a transit-country for russian gas.

Mr.Scheffer...you had your chance, but you´ve supported the wrong ones. now live with the consequences. as a german newspaper has put it today:

organized crime has it´s own state now.

but, I still say, it is nothing of a state, it´s occupied territory.

to be liberated.
period.

Oh boy, what is this man talking about? Doesn’t he understand very simple fact that Serbia does not want to join any Euro-Atlantic organizations, especially not criminal NATO organization. I just wonder what makes them so sure that Serbia wants to be part of NATO after its decision to refrain from any military action in order to defend its sovereignty in the event of Kosovo UDI. Do they actually think that Serbia wants to die for someone else’s interests and causes? What Serbia needs is complete neutrality.

And wonder what he meant by saying “I haven’t finished job in Europe”, sounds like threat!
