"Self-isolation talk, worst kind of propaganda"

Serbia's EU integration only with Kosovo as its province does not mean self-isolation, says Vojislav Koštunica.

Kostunica is right: you cannot say that you want to keep Kosovo and say at the same time that you want to be an EU member no matter the price.

Of course Serbia is in Europe and its future will always involve close relations with neighbouring countries. But there are more ways to achieve that than EU membership. Switzerland is not an EU member either.

I hope that the EU, the US and Pristina soon understand that more negotiations on Kosovo are necessary.

If you think that Russia, China and India are isolated (because they don't agree with EU or US), then Serbia can only hope to be just as isolated.

Those economies are growing and they are becoming an economic power in the world, but if Serbia chooses to have ties with them they are told they will be doomed.

Get real, stop the propaganda and let the EU have Albania while Serbia establishes ties with other partenrs and see who comes out on top.

The "self-isolation" of Serbia exists, Mr. Kostunica, not only since Feb.17th 2008. Just compare it's status with the international status of ALL states around Serbia, compare the level of progress and welfare, which is far behind of your neighbour states and a logical result of selb-isolation policy. Let's compare the conditions for the the youth in Serbia compared with the young people in your neighbour states, like freedom of traveling and educational possibilities. You may call all these differences PROPAGANDA, Mr. Kostunica, but for millions of young Serbs it is REALITY. And these people will show you the difference to your strange and polemic point of view.

You are contradicting yourself, Kostunica.
What planet are you from, again?
Recalling the ambassadors does not effect relations!?
Serbia is already feeling the economic crunch. Investments are not coming and wont be there any time soon. You have managed to put Serbia on dependence of Russian money. That is what you wanted to begin with, right?
By those actions you are only downgrading the value of Serbia as a whole. Shame on you!!!

OMG! Seems every other non-EU path (Russia, The East) is considered "isolation" for Serbia. Is the Russian Federation isolated? I think not. Granted its economy is not as developed as that of some Western countries but it is growing.

When did Russia ever bomb us Serbs? When and how many times did Russia fight for and alongside us Serbs (both politically and militarily)?

Answer these questions and you will see that the isolation propaganda is nothing more than that... propaganda. Also, it seems that people feel Serbia is falling victim to "Russian money". Well here's a question for you... what do you think it would be like if Serbia was part of EU? Do you think they wont be buying off parts of the economy as well (especially now since Serbias economy is desperately trying to recover)?

Its interesting, it is only Albanians which keep repeating Western mantra of Kostunica is Milosevic, utterly unaware of the irony.

Things have funny way of coming the full circle.

America just recently asked Russia for help in Afghanistan. Wait, didn't America hire Taliban and Co to rid those pesky Russians?
Now, if you go and rent Rambo III, the end credits will tell you ''Dedicated to the brave mujahedeen of Afghanistan''.
Now those brave mujahedeen are the problem.
We lived to see that happen, we will live to see Western betrayal of Albanian dream.

Oh and Kostunica is absolutely right.

It looks like Kostunica, this second Milosevic will never be PM again.
I just read on Vajdasagma.info Hungarian site in Vojvodina that the EU-friendly DSN + Liberals are leeding by 3% in the opition pools. And even if the Radicals would win Kostunica would get maybe a obscure little position. He wanted to use Kosovo to consolidate his position. He will see how badly he miscalculated. Extremists and hard-core nationalists will miss him, nobody else.

Dragan,

Let me echo your words of praise for the governments of Brazil and Portugal. The 27 who recognised the UDD (thanks Mike) are looking rather lonely at the moment.
- one country in South America (Peru)
- two countries in Asia (Afghanistan & Malaysia)
- one country in Africa (Senegal)

It just goes to show that when the Yanks or the EU use the term "international community", they should really say "our few friends and ourselves".

As a Western European I am constantly angered by the fact that the voices of huge tracts of this world do not count in the schemes of the bullies with big armies.

You keep equating Kostunica with Milosevic. Yet, as far as I am aware, Kostunica has commited no crimes at all - unlike a certain 'Hashim Thaci', who would in all likelihood be in the Hague now were it not for the support of the current morally bankrupt US administration.

I think any comparisons between Kostunica and Milosevich are ill considered.

In fact I think Kostunica is being far more realistic about Kosovo in that I think he's fully aware that once you start the process to EU membership without clarification as to the borders of Serbia and the status of Kosovo you will, most likely, find yourselves victims of your own complicity to the formation of a breakaway state. The EU is not going to admit they made a mistake and ask NATO to withdraw and recall dialogue on the future of Kosovo and Metohije, whatever Serbia does. They already see its future path written and Kostunica is challenging them from the start to clarify their postition.

And as for damaging Serbia's relationships with countries due to his recall of ambassadors, Serbia, you were attacked and bombed for your territory by many of these same countries as they took sides in a civil war, is this not true?

Dragan

pre 16 godina

Self isolation? What in God's name is Tadic talking about? Only 27 countries so far recognize the fake and illegal state of Kosovo, out of 192 of them. It makes you wonder who Tadic is really working for, for the Serbian people, or for Solana and the Eurocrats?
On another note, since B92 does not like to publish good news, Brazil and Portugal have said they will NOT recognize Kosovo.

"The Brazilian government does not support the independence of Kosovo and would only recognize if such a political agreement was made with Serbia, under the conduct of the United Nations. The Brazilian government reaffirms its belief that a peaceful solution for the issue of Kosovo must continue to be sought through dialogue and negotiation, under the auspices of the United Nations and the legal framework of Resolution 1244 of the Council Security" was stated by Celso Amorim, Foreign Minister of Brazil, in statement regarding protests against Kosovo independence in Serbia. He also said that countries that have recognized the independence of Kosovo put the United Nations in "second place."

In Portugal - "Assembly of the Republic discussed the issue twice and parties agreed that Portugal should not recognize Kosovo for now because the UN and the EU have not yet reached a consensus position."

Thank you to these two countries who refused to bow to external pressure and decided to take the path of international law and justice. Serbia will never forget!
Cheers!!

Please don't blame the other if you make the wrong choice.

I'm actually beginning to feel sorry for Kostunica. He hasn't realised yet that Kosovo cannot be an election winner for him.

Poor Voja, what will SRS do to him?

Its that old adage of how all political careers end in failure. Look at the last parliamentary elections - he got 30 percent, he'll be lucky to get 8 percent this time round.

After that he won't even get past the census - like Vuk Draskovic and all because of his political mistakes.

Still I guess SRS might offer him the job of vice president in parliament or Minister of Kosovo.

Every word he said it is true and he is absolutely right. Why would Serbia isolate her self if reject any possible integrations into the EU. Why no one who runs this filthy propaganda, explains how and in what way Serbia would be isolated? However, one thing I would disagree with Mr Kostunica when it comes to withdrawal of ambassadors. Serbia was not supposed to withdraw its ambassadors but to cancel its hospitality to the ambassadors of the countries that recognised Kosovo, especially USA’s ambassador should be sent back to the USA.

But if the EU wants to punish us for rejecting their carrots, than let them be, they have chance to show their true “democratic” manners that they demonstrated so well towards Serbia on many occasions .
