Bravo to the Serbs. Reucker is shocked that law and order have been violated. Ok so now "law and order" matter, while a few weeks ago the province skirted law to declare independence. What hypocrites.
The EU knows Kosovo won't survive without Serbia's assistance.
All the Serb workers were ejected since '99...........well well we see how multicultural the Albanians REALLY are. Maybe they'll let a token Serb work for a UN EU photo opportunity then after he/she will be shown the door.
Don't be fooled anyone the Albanians want ALL of Kosovo, part of Macedonia, Montenegro, for a Greater Albania. Let's hope the EU shuts down the Albainian nationalists before it's too late.

Ardia,

I agree Ardia with you, it is lame. If you are a younger generation I'll remind you that in 1981 Albanian protests, Albanian iredentists shielded behind Albanian children and women in first rows were shooting on federal police and army.
From then on, what all other Kosovo Albanian methods inclusive of the one mentioned, have achieved I'll let you to assert.

I dont see the problem.

Serb people entering a Serb building. I cant see any problem in that.

Former workers that want their jobs back and no longer wishes to be ignored. UNMIK and KFOR have done a terribly bad job in Kosovo. 250 000 Serbs expelled and ethnically cleansed. 150 medieval churches and monastaries burnt to the ground and remaining Serbs living in ghettos. Many sacked from their jobs without reason.

What is this? The new holocaust of the 21th century but this time it is the Serbs that are the victims and not the jews?!

The comments from Ruecker are surreal. I don't get it. He has the military might.

His troops have weapons that aren't even legal in Texas, yet the Serbs, who feel they were fired from the jobs for no other reason than because of their ethnicity, are using "violence" to take over some municipal building?

What is this, 1984? I'm sorry, but this is clearly an abuse of language to mislead the international press into maligning an easy target.

Even the pro-independence crowd should be able to spot the problem with the terms used here. This sounds lake a peaceful labor dispute(relatively speaking - there have been more violent labor disputes in the U.S. in the past 10 years)from a group that has a legitimate gripe.

It's america wlong with some "european allies" who are manipulating Serbia and Serbs! So please spare us your propaganda, those are very weak attempts to distract people from the truth. The Slobo regime used to set aside 1 million dollars on a daily basis for KiM.

It is because of america that Serbs have been ethnically clensed from their homeland. What right did nato have to attack Serbia?

It's people like Tadic & Co. who don't care about KiM.

These actions that are happening in Mitrovica are reminding me of the 90s when serbs in Kosovo were using force for anything.

"kosovo serbs are the finest part of our nation..."

Why don't you tell this to all the Kosovo Serb refugees in Prokuplje, Kraljevo and Krusevac that you routinely discriminate against and who live in conditions worse than the worst refugee camps in Kosovo? Please, tell this to your countrymen living in abandoned railroad cars, basements in Belgrade or ten to a room in a one-room flat in Raska.

It is such a tragedy that these poor people continue to be exploited by cynical politicians and propagandists like smile. Stop putting Kosovo's Serbs in the front lines of your election campaigns and nationalist fantasies. The only difference between the way these people are being manipulated now than the way Serbs were across the Balkans in the 90's is that they haven't allowed themselves to be manipulated into war. The shame of that should be enough to stop you from using these people in your populist political games.

I was there, and I saw from a certain distance the episode. I have everything on tape. To all Serb posters, Please guys do not encourage violence. There is no bravery to put few women in front of the protest and enter by force to a building. We (albanians) understand the serbs feelings at this moment but this is not the way to go. They can enter that building and even burn it if they like, but it will change nothing. Provoking incidents to achieve some violent reaction from us is lame. We understand very well the situation. There is nothing you can do about it. We are independent de jure and de facto. All your action contribute to show your real face and intentions.

The frustration of people lossing their job is comprehensible. But this shouldn´t lead to force. I am wondering why these poeople didn´t act in this way during 9 years. Serbs in Kosovo are instrumentalised by official Belgrade and this will not help them at all. Jeremic is claiming to UN SC to maintain UNMIK in place as the only legitimate body with a UN mandate. If so why UNMIK should not take the situation under controll. Jeremic stressed-out proudly that Serbia didn´t use sanctions and force. What´s happen, and it will happen in the comming months, is exactly the contrary. For any action similar to this provoced by Serbs in Mitrovica has the green light from Belgrade and this will be punished by reasonable serbs.

Kate,

Please talk some sense to these guys in here that support violence.
Explain to them that 1244 should be respected and the there is International law that should be respected too. Imagine the scenario when the police forces take the building by force. Why do we have to use the word force at all not to mention force as action.

Serbs, don’t start again another campaign as you did in 90s. Don’t support violent people since their road lead to Hague.

UNMIK can claim all the "authority" it likes and can act as "firmly" as it likes, but if it does not have the support of the people it is fighting a losing battle.

This is why 27,000 British troops could not defeat the IRA (a few hundred activists)in Northern Ireland.

And if they decide to "act firmly" the situation will move further down the slippery slope to ......choose your own word.

This is a valid protest. These people were thrown out of the jobs. Their future is of course tied to status, as doubtless the workers appointed in their places recognise the new state of Kosovo.

Its unbelievable that the internationals think that these Serbs can just be sacked like this, their livelihoods taken away, and their state also taken away and for them NOT to protest. They have nothing else in their lives but to protest the situation.

kosovo serbs are the finest part of our nation. think about the conditions they live in, in ghettos, behind barbed wire, with even medical treatment denied to them by albanians in this 21st century. but are kosovo serbs intimidated, are they quitting? no they are not. they are our strength and inspiration and i somehow feel it should be the other way round, us from the safety and our normal life should be their support. but look at this now, the essence of serb spirit is right at the core of serbia, kosovo.

Kate

pre 16 godina

As a nation Kosovo does not exist - it still remains a province which has declared independence. It does not make it so. This has been recognised by 27 states out of 190, and there is no seat at the UN.

The Hoop de Heffers of this world can talk till they are blue in the face about how Serbia is being held back by feelings of nationalism because they want to keep their own boundaries in place (how very dare they!).

Most people on the outside can see the attempted bully tactics and infringements of all laws and international agreements.

Therefore, Bad Gorilla, there is no recognised course of action on the ground, which is the big problem. Under Res 1244 Kosovo remains part of Serbia and the UN does not have the remit to recognise independence or support its UDI.

As Ban says, it is up to individual countries to recognise, and the UN, Nato, EU forces are not the armies of these countries.

So unless the individual nations are prepared to put their own troops on the ground in direct contradiction to the UN mandate, who exactly will stop actions such as this one at the court in Northern Kosovo? The UN are only honouring UNSCR 1244 if they help to preserve the sovereignty of Serbia as agreed; and if they don’t then they can’t cry foul because of situations such as this one today.

There is only one solution for all of this – to come up with a legal solution which is accepted by all sides and which all people can live with in the long run.

Bad Gorilla

pre 16 godina

The West have all the cards to do not let the situation in Kosovo to deteriorate. It should act firmly to supress the aims of Serb nationalists.

And if they decide to "act firmly" the situation will move further down the slippery slope to ......choose your own word.

"Ukrainian and Polish special U.N. police offered little resistance. A U.N. source said there were some reports of protesters attacking police with metal bars, but the protesters' move was largely non-violent."

I still wonder: where is the Serbian dignity? More Serbs should be protesting worldwide against the outrageous attitude of the European Union by recognizing the theft of the most important part of the history of Serbia.

Common Serbs! You must never lose your dignity

To alex #13.

"Provoking incidents to achieve some violent reaction from us is lame."
