Cvele,

I want emphasize the fact that even UN had agreed on Kosovas independence, silence is nothing else than a sign of agreement. On the other hand, Cvele, it is not important for Kosova to become UN member at all, important thing is to be recognized by as much as possible countries in the world, considering first the main powerful countries. As far the UN membership is concerned, just to remind you that, for example, Switzerland had joined the UN only in 2002, and even not ever applied for, before that; Germany became a UN member in 1973 only, and nothing was bad with them even before they joined UN etc etc.
Furthermore, just few days ago, Mr. Bilt told the Kosovar political elite that even without being an UN member, Kosova can join the EU, what is much, much important than UN membership.
Despite the fact that Kosova is not, and god knows if and when will become an UN member, Kosovars are building such legal infrastructure to adjust to all International (including UN) agreements and declarations.
As re-establishing control of Serbia over Prishtina is concerned (as you said be it 5 or 15 years), it is hard to imagine that, firstly because considering fact that even under tough Milosevic police and army forces, Serbia could never establish control over entire territory of Kosova, secondly, after 9 years of freedom, Kosova is not the same any more, it developed rapidly in all aspects, including military (remember we have every year people from KPC going on training in USA, Sweden, Norway, Italy etc) as well as we, now, have over 16000 Nato troops in. So the situation is much different that the one existed in 1998/99 war.

C'mon don't insult like that. france is also the country of Montesquieu and Rousseau and some of their ideas applied in the balkans might have helped.
It would be wrong to identify a nation with its politicians 'cause I think we all in our countries have our own such "creatures".

Bravo Sergei!
You have put this incompetent minion in his place with truth and facts, which he could not weasel his way out of. Beautifully done!

Motion seconded and passed.

Let the French wallow in the misery of the truth and that NATO and EU puppet Kouchner.

Although Medyeveev(sp)look quite capable of leading Russia , Sergei Lavrov would have been a much better choice especially for foreign policy and hopefully stay's on in his post.

This was not about a difference of opinion.

If you do not speak the truth, you need to be corrected.

Mr. Kouchner deserved to be embarrassed publicly and called to task for not telling the truth.

Mr. Lavrov is literally heads above Mr. Koucher.

french are weak in reality since they never won a war. they are always losers. look at their president how he deals with ordinary people and his personal life. russia is tough and a principled nation so with her diplomats.

Well done Mr Kouchner on humiliating yourself as well as your country in the full glare of the western media. And in Paris of all places.

Last weeks gaffe about the EULEX missions 'UN letter of authority' that 'never was', was bad enough, but this.. is simply breath-taking.

The french parliament will certainly be an interesting place to be for the next couple of days :)

"That's right, we are speaking of a representative of a country that secretly exterminates any form of free media or self-expression. Is anyone keeping a score of that - how many unsolved journalist murders in Russia as opposed to France?

True enough - although is a vast improvement compared to the situation in the old USSR.. remember Stalin?

Anyway, replying to your comment.. in the 'civilised' west, they merely murder the truth.

Well done Lavrov.
Don't let a Frenchy's "wide smile" stop you from your correct continuing course and position on Kosovo and Metohija. Those EU members wobbling behind the US Washington State Department foreign policy on Kosovo are living in an illegal nightmare and one day when they wake, Kosovo will still be in Serbia and within her borders.

Kouchner has always been a clown! French knew about it at least when he sold his own party for to side with right-wing Sarkozy, (just for to have a position, since he was not accepted as head of the WHO) but now the world knows about it.

You know, it's ironic.
Ask the average citizen of any country, and they'll gladly tell you how the government they voted for, ISN'T the same one they bargained for.

The people vote for their government, and in turn, the governments of many of these democracies are serving the interests for themselves and their beauracracies, and NOT the people..

Sorry to sound pessimistic, but France and Germany are faking a military and moral defeat in the Balkans, but are afraid to get sand in their eyes in Afghanistan..

In the meanwhile, the only reason they pretend to recognize Kosovo, is to secure the Airbus contracts that the Pentagon is outsourcing to EU..

What is most disappointing about the French recognizing Kosovo's independence is the relationship France & Serbia had up until the current government - or perhaps the current inhabitants of France - just as in the UK.

Doing the same thing & expecting different results has never proven to benefit anyone.

Kouchner got OWNED!

I think after this episode, Kouchner has to ask Lavrov's permission before he can speak/parle! C'est dommage, Bernie!

Zoran

What an arrogant, ignorant, and incompetent is Kouchner. Fortunately there are better educated people like Lavrov who are willing to publicly correct people like Kouchner and put them on their place again. For some reason the EU managed to nominate similar kind of people to deal with the extremely complex matter that Kosovo is and who obviously cannot handle anything because they are uninformed, biased, and from a different universe.

Marco, Amsterdam

Lavrov wished to let Kouchner know it was time to stop the verbal duel, when he said that he "appreciated the manner in which the principal differences with France were considered".

"The French chief of diplomacy sighed with relief and hurried to let journalists ask their questions," reports from Paris said.
