(ahmed, 12 March 2008 17:26) "

When some-one uses a particular year for EU membership, & then keeps changing that year, brings into question veracity of that some-one's sources.

Well yes, one more or less foreign US base is of no particular relevance. Unless of course, it's in a sensitive area, has a detention area much larger than it needs, & is the largest built since Vietnam.

And I don't pay much attention to 'Olli' after his previous comments.

Finally, might direct your attention to the case of Iraq - as suspect that it'll provide 'blueprint' for Kosovo. Think that 'aid funds' will principally go into pockets of US multi-nationals (Haliburton et al) to upgrade infra-structure needed to support new US base.

But that's my opinion.. anyway, have a nice day :)

Well Arben,

I know that there hardly any people living in San Marino. I do not need google for that; I have even been to San Marino. The only reason I compared Kosovo to San Marino is that your fellow countryman Village-Bey was much to optimistic about the economic viability of Kosovo. I do not wish to insult K-Albanians, but I think the viability of your state is going to be be your Achilles heel. (Oh yes, I also do not like the idea that the George W. Bush wants to rule the world.)

Kosovo has already started working on its intergration towards the EU. Focus on Serbia so it does the same, otherwise, your youth will desert you!

Sure, that is why other mini states such as San Marino are considered strong economic powers, right?

Marco come one man, if you write a lot dosen't make you smart or knowlegable .all you need is google for sec before you say anything such as " Main article: Demographics of San Marino
The state has a population of approximately 29,000, including 1,000 foreigners, most of whom are Italians. About 5,000 Sammarinese live in foreign countries, predominantly in Italy.

Now , can you compare San Marino , with Kosova ?
All the best from Kosova

IGNORE and NEVER, seem to be very popular words in this discussion. I would think that these two words apply more to today's Serbian politics and their perspectives of prosperitity than to any established process in Kosovo.

Village-Bey,

You must confuse me with another Dutchman. In my view, foreigners (including Serbs & Albanians) should be allowed to stay in Holland as long as they pay their taxes and abide by the law. No problem with that.

Ratko

Of course mr faith would like to stay in Serbia, I am sure of that. Just like those "high representatives" in BiH & RS. I bet they wouldn't like to get a role in places like in Iraq & Afghanistan, because they would blown up in days upon arrival. They get paid A LOT OF MONEY!

Marco mate,
Benjamin Franklin once said ‘If a man could half his wishes he would double his Troubles’. We cannot help it if divided we stand into pessimist and optimists of this world. I guess the weather is partly to blame for that.
If you are the same person who is still looking for ways out to return foreigners from Netherlands, even if I gave you half of my wishes, it won’t be enough to halve your trouble to tackle that giant task. A story of halves I say, mate.

Kosovo has lignite (rosebud coal) and lots of it. For those of you who do not know what lignite is, let me explain. Lignite is the lowest grade of coal (as far as energy that it produces) and creates the most pollution. it is mostly used in the production of Electricity in coal plants close to the source as lignite degrades quickly. Europe is shutting down its coal fired power plants while starting up a coal based economy? Does this make sense to anyone?

How is Kosovo going to use its most widely available resource and clean up its environmental policies to comply with stringent european standards?

Pristina will not be in charge of Kosovo, their european benifactors and geusts are not leaving, and the economy will depend on aid for as long as this abomination exists.

One thing is clear, Kosova is Independent whether you guys like it or not!
Kosova is rich in minerals and everybody shld know that. Type Google, type Trepca and read few articles!
Kosova is being donated some 340 mio from USA and 300 mio from EU and 2 billion expected to come in from the donours conference in july, that ought to speed the dev. of economy, were just two million anyway....a new yorks neighbourhood. Im pretty optimistic! And please stop refering to Cyprus as if it was a superpower they are an island of half million people who have a 0 % influence on great european powers! Cheers to Kosova once again!

According to Village-Bey:

"Kosova has huge economic potential.
Its tiny size makes it structurally favourable to positive economic change."

Sure, that is why other mini states such as San Marino are considered strong economic powers, right?

"It is market oriented and has no property settlement issues."

Because all the property used to belong to Yugoslavia (read: Serbia)?

"It has an young educated workforce."

You all went to Harvard University?

"It has enormous mineral wealth and resources."

You do not think that, sooner or later, the Americans will come and exploit your mines for only a fistful of dollars?

"The dilapidated infrastructure might also be perceived as advantage will open the way for a whole new restructuring in macroeconomics."

Any idea how long it takes to build an infrastructure?

"It is located in the middle of old trade routes, upgraded as we speak."

The old trade routes and not the new ones?

"It seats in one of the most fertile plains of the region and has the potential to be the breadbasket for our corner of the world."

You only need a few acres of wheat to become a breadbasket?

"Wonderful climate and beautiful people
All in all there is no real prospect of the wishful thinking of some in here to become reality anytime soon."

Winters are always mild and the women are all beauty queens?

Keep on engaging in wishful thinking mate!

All I can say is good luck to the Albanians and their dreams of joining the EU.

It seems the US has delivered a truck full of carrots ready for you while your leader is busy rehearsing the next staged interview or speech as directed by your master.

There will come a point when your vision is clear and you will see that carrots are getting you nowhere. But that time seems far far away, which makes this whole discussion a little pointless at this time.

Olf

If Cyprus could became EU member why not Kosova, simple as that. Time frame could be decided according to situation.

Feith said: “Islamic countries, which represent a very important part of the UN, will be contacted next week, and that will begin a new wave of recognitions,” the EU envoy predicted

-this is to let everybody know that the phase two of recognition is soon to start. Another 50 countries to recognise Kosova’s Independence is not that bad. By the end of 2009 Serbia is expected to.

This together with many other articles tell us that Europe will not allow ultranationalist have the main word.

I have nothing against Kosovo joining the EU miri, but I do not see it as a reality, at least not for a long time. Regarding Poland, people did not expect them to join the EU, I still believe that we should have waited. We were not ready for it. I have discussed this many times, and I think Kosovo would also go through the same problems, unless they develop to such an extent that the EU is unable to influence it negatively.

"But getting back to your comment; if not in 3 or 5 years, than probably in 10 years time Kosova will join EU and those 5 countries WILL recognize Kosova, and those countries WILL NOT veto anything. Read carefully what Feith says. The process is irreversible."

I have read it miri, however this does not explain the Turkey situation. They have been candidates for ages, what do you think keeps them out of the EU to this day?

"Many people here (and to my surprise, including you) are mocking Feith about dying in Kosova. "

It was a joke, perhaps it wasn't the most intelligent, I agree, it was just just a way of saying that he is too confident with regards to Kosovo, considering the obstacles that hamper Kosovo.

“We are not coming to Kosovo to create a NATO state, but it is politically impossible to say now: we’ve made a mistake and we are going back to where we were earlier. We started on this path and we must continue the journey,” the EU envoy explained.

Great. You made a mistake but want others to put up with the consequences. Politically, Serbia has no difficultly in rejecting the mistake.

In my view democratic Serbia has fulfilled its obligations under 1244 is now in a position to legally reoccupy in order to rectify the mistake.

It is the EU that should not be there and the UDI that is illegal.

D Jordan

pre 16 godina

I'm still giggling Feith must really like living in Kosovo as never will Cyprus allow Kosovo in the EU. When NATO was bombing Serbia, they proudly flew Serbian flags in some of their towns, one place, Polis looked like a festival site, all Serbian flags and pennants. Support in Cyprus for Serbia will never waver and they will never acknowledge the illegal breakway regime of Kosovo.

As for Muslim Arab States I think that will be interesting to see as I know some Arabs and they dislike Albanians . One of my friends quoted me the Treaty of Jerusalem, second most important treaty in Islam that the Albanians break every time they attack a religous site, which they tolerate as a people.

For this reason and because of their activities during thier history I will no longer use the term Muslim to describe the Albanians in Kosovo.

I'm not even Muslim so how the Islamic states will feel we'll have to see. Islam and the Orthodox Church have always maintained good relations.

Guess this is whats called 'marketing'.

Could also say:
tiny size so proceeds from corruption per capita is much bigger.

legal issues concerning ownership of basic infra-structure.
amount spent on education per child much lower than european norm due to pop. demographics.
very small ethnic-minority percentage & getting smaller all the time.

Yep. Never crossed my mind. Don't live there & am not polish.

" Haven't you noticed that those that thumb their chest about Serbia being the "tiger" of Balkans live elsewhere? "

Nope - don't go around thumping my chest. Am not gorilla. And never posted anything about cats.
And situations do change. In 90's, EU wanted to absorb old 'Warsaw Pact' countries before they changed their minds. Now, no urgency so candidates face more hurdles.

" than probably in 10 years time Kosovo will join EU and those 5 countries WILL recognize Kosovo, and those countries WILL NOT veto anything "

What 5 countries? Will assume you are talking about Spain, Slovakia, Romania, Greece & Cyprus. Take it you don't have any basis for statement above - is just hopeful speculation on your part.

" Read carefully what Feith says. The process is irreversible. Many people here (and to my surprise, including you) are mocking Feith about dying in Kosova. "

Didn't post anything about 'Feith dying in Kosovo'. Tried to, but it got 'censored' ;)
Anyway, best way to deal with his type is to ignore him - annoys 'em no end :)

" EU has committed itself to get Kosovo within itself and it will happen. "

Perhaps, perhaps not. Don't have your power of 'telling the future' - no crystal ball :(

" EU is the most powerful economic organization in the world, and for us Albanians it's a dream come true to have its' support. "

Yes, and I am sure that some small nations dependable on the US will follow, but not all. Of course democratic Iraq will recognize, maybe also Bahrain and Qatar, but no real independent countries will. MAYBE small nations dependent on international aid will be threatend to recognize also, such as Haiti and Lesotho, but that would only be due to threats

Peter,

You sound very "pesimistic" about Kosova joining EU. I wonder did you ever thing Poland would join EU two decades ago? I bet it never cross your mind or anyone else's.
The point is, world is much different place today than it was last year, and a year before that, and a year before that. EU as a concept has entirely modified the old way of accomplishing life. The only place that doesn't seem to understand this is Serbia, which to me is a clear sign of isolation that has plunged that country for the past 10 years. Haven't you noticed that those that thumb their chest about Serbia being the "tiger" of Balkans live elsewhere?

But getting back to your comment; if not in 3 or 5 years, than probably in 10 years time Kosova will join EU and those 5 countries WILL recognize Kosova, and those countries WILL NOT veto anything. In regards to the Muslim countries recognizing Kosovo, it's people like Feith who give validity to the Serbian "Conspiracy Theorists".
Rather than employing lobbyists to hand out money to those same Muslim countries, perhaps you should think about rebuilding the Serb's infrastructure, local halls and Churches, and start getting local issues resolved..

I have nothing against Kosovo joining the EU, really I don't, but I really would like to know how it is Feith sees Kosovo joining the EU when you have five EU states who have stated they will not recognize Kosovo.

I am assuming Feith will stay in Kosovo until he died or until they change the EU membership laws, which I am sorry to say I cannot see happening at any time ever.

Or will they bend all the rules of every organization just to get Kosovo in? What makes Kosovo so special?

Yes, and I am sure that some small nations dependable on the US will follow, but not all. Of course democratic Iraq will recognize, maybe also Bahrain and Qatar, but no real independent countries will. Great. You made a mistake but want others to put up with the consequences. Politically, Serbia has no difficultly in rejecting the mistake.

In my view democratic Serbia has fulfilled its obligations under 1244 is now in a position to legally reoccupy in order to rectify the mistake.

Regarding Poland, people did not expect them to join the EU, I still believe that we should have waited. We were not ready for it.

Read carefully what Feith says. The process is irreversible. Many people here (and to my surprise, including you) are mocking Feith about dying in Kosova.

However, given what Feith have said, the new pressure on recognition will start. Last week Mr Ban Ki Moon stated and complained why the USA and EU did not pressure the third world countries to recognise Kosovo and make easier for the UN making decisions. But now, as I can realise the new wave of pressure is about to take place. Unfortunately, something that has been created forcefully forcefully will end.

Furthermore, Mr Feith announced de facto partition of Kosovo and no one will intervene to change the reality on the ground which is clever. They are aware that using the force against the Serbs in Kosovo might lead only to a new war.

However, I hope that their mission in pressuring the rest of the world to recognise Kosovo will dearly fail.

Marco mate,
Benjamin Franklin once said ‘If a man could half his wishes he would double his Troubles’.

Hello Feith you have no authority your illegal you and your EULEX. “We will try to be as invisible as possible, “Islamic countries, which represent a very important part of the UN, will be contacted next week, and that will begin a new wave of recognitions,” the EU envoy predicted. It is unbelievable of the shear arrogance that comes from EU Brussels and its lackeys. like I said before that it is a totally dangerous organization and a law only on to its self and they make the self serving rules as they go they are totally lawless. If it was a normal functioning world Feith would be in jail and EU Brussels would be sanctioned what a totally filled with hypocrites organization it is. Poor Europe!

Everyone please relax. . .we're all missing one key point here. . .

"The Republic of Kosova" DOES NOT EXIST!

How can you join an organization where some members of said organization do not acknowledge your very existence!?

Kosovo is still legally a province of the internationally recognized state of Serbia as outlined in Resolution 1244 under the auspices of the global community.

Because a handful of morally corrupt nations say otherwise. . .it still doesn't make it so.

"You sound very "pesimistic" about Kosova joining EU. I wonder did you ever thing Poland would join EU two decades ago? I bet it never cross your mind or anyone else's. "

> Kosova has huge economic potential.
Its tiny size makes it structurally favourable to positive economic change.
It is market oriented and has no property settlement issues.
It has an young educated workforce.
It has enormous mineral wealth and resources.
The dilapidated infrastructure might also be perceived as advantage will open the way for a whole new restructuring in macroeconomics.
It is located in the middle of old trade routes, upgraded as we speak.
It seats in one of the most fertile plains of the region and has the potential to be the breadbasket for our corner of the world.

You sound very "pesimistic" about Kosovo joining EU. I wonder did you ever thing Poland would join EU two decades ago? I bet it never cross your mind or anyone else's. Haven't you noticed that those that thumb their chest about Serbia being the "tiger" of Balkans live elsewhere? than probably in 10 years time Kosovo will join EU and those 5 countries WILL recognize Kosovo, and those countries WILL NOT veto anything Read carefully what Feith says. The process is irreversible. Many people here (and to my surprise, including you) are mocking Feith about dying in Kosova. EU has committed itself to get Kosovo within itself and it will happen. EU is the most powerful economic organization in the world, and for us Albanians it's a dream come true to have its' support. <

Careful - if US hears, will ship you off to Guantanamo. Oops, make that Bondsteel - forgot about those 'detention' facilities they have there. Wonder why? Future restive population perhaps...

Guess this is whats called 'marketing'.

Could also say:
tiny size so proceeds from corruption per capita is much bigger.
will sell anything - guns, drugs & people.
legal issues concerning ownership of basic infra-structure.
amount spent on education per child much lower than european norm due to pop. demographics.
very small ethnic-minority percentage & getting smaller all the time.

miri:
"Peter,

You sound very "pesimistic" about Kosovo joining EU. I wonder did you ever thing Poland would join EU two decades ago? I bet it never cross your mind or anyone else's. "

(peter, sydney, 12 March 2008 14:21)

Whether is 2012 or 2013 makes
no difference at all.We know the destination.EU MEMBERSHIP
Your Jibes about bondsteel leaves me totally indifferent. There are 180 US bases around the world and a lot of them are located in Europe. One more is not going to change anything. You must've also have read that the EU commissioner for enlargement Olli Rehn promised increased structural funds for Kosova next year in order to help with the development of thecountry.
