A comment on the "unique" situation of Kosovo for UDI: It is "Unique" only because the US/EU say it is and no other reason. It is unique because it was createad by the US/NATO for purely their own political agenda and nothing to do with freedom for Albanians as the US could not get what they wanted from Milosevic (ref. Raboulet agreement). You will realize that soon enough - just take a look at what has happened so far. The UN/US/NATO/EU have been in Kosovo since 1999 - the only imiprovements of note is increase in criminal activiy making Kosovo the 4th worse in the world after ALbania. If after 9 years the US/EU couldn't bring law, order and the economy out of chaos.

I still remember B92 publishing the ridiculous remarks of those comedians about an "unique case"... I mean, Montgomery or Burns ( not the one from the Simpson´s ) ...

wyh doesn´t B92 ask them again about the unique-case nonsense, since Costa Rica "recognized" Kosovo and even a Palestine State!?

why don´t you ask them again, B92?

lousy work, my dear media-beginners.

"… borders…ethnic cleansing.. murders….in US …. overwhelming majority supports the new state…. "

Majority of Americans doesn't have a clue about the Balkans, and it doesn't interest them. Dose who think that they know something, got a very distorted picture from the vicious propaganda in your mass media. But if you are really interested, check the facts. Find out about Lisbon agreement. Have a look at the real figures of the dead in Bosnian conflict. http://www.idc.org.ba/aboutus.html Find out what was the biggest ethnic cleansing of the war(s). Compare the figures for numbers of minorities before and after the wars in all the states formed on the territory of ex - Yugoslavia. Which one of them is most multicultural and where numbers of minorities didn't change significantly before and after the war? Which of the states has a biggest number of refugees? Think about what have you find. Compare hard facts with stories you heard on CNN. Make your onclusions.

"….As far as the killings go, the 10,000 that the media claims is known to be highly exaggerated. No mass graves to speak of. In fact how many albanians did your own people kill or drive out because they were sympathetic to the Yugo govt at the time? …"

Court in Den Haag (ICTY), sent a team of experts to investigate the killings. They were very eager to find evidence for prosecution. They were very well founded, equipped, informed by Albanians, and after all efforts, they found just over 2 000 victims, of all nationalities.

So, Jason, you think our countrymen are disgusted by the supprot given to Kosovan independence. Well, would you agree that they would twice as disgusted by the way in which serbs "buildt" their Republika Srbska? Since when rape, mass-murder and ethnic cleansing justifies building borders where they never existed before? At least, to my knowledge, Kosovo territory was always clearly defined within former Yugoslavia. I do not claim that all in US are happy about the Kosovo independence, but I nevertheless believe that the overwhelming majority supports the new state.

It's nice to see the Czechs, Slovaks and Romanians all supporting the Serbian cause. A big thank you to our friends who believe in international law and understand the dangers this precedent sets.

So Mika, where to start. No albanian should talk about human rights to anyone else in the world. Your country is run by the leader of a Terrorist Organization recognized as such by the US (KLA) your number one exports are human exports in the form of slavery followed closely by drugs. So stay away from the human rights discussion.

Second, how many of the albanians that you claim were forced out by the Serbs were actually Yugoslav citizens? How many living there today actually had Yugo or Serb passports? These people were illegal aliens and should have been deported. I admit there was a better way to deport them but they should have been escorted out of the country just like we do to illegals here in the US. As far as the killings go, the 10,000 that the media claims is known to be highly exaggerated. No mass graves to speak of. In fact how many albanians did your own people kill or drive out because they were sympathetic to the Yugo govt at the time?

I love how you people think we in America only saw one side of what you did. We saw your people sneak into Fort Dix and try to kill our soldiers here. It just sickens me that my govt can't see you for what you will surely become. A burden on our tax payers for years to come.

"Klaus's short visit to Slovakia yesterday was in accordance with an unwritten but iron rule that, on the first foreign visit after his inauguration, the Czech president should visit the second metropolis of the former country of Czechoslovakia."
More than true, they lived under the same roof, respected each other, never fought against each other, and still seperated from each other (in very democratic way). And they visite each other, respecting first neighboor. Maybe Balkanian people should learn something from them.
Now they discuss about precedents! Not such a bad subject either.
What to say for precedent of Serbia, killing, displacing own citizens, burning their houses and destroying their property. That was a real precedent, which showed to the world that Serbia is not capable to rule with Kosovo and her inhabitans. Kosovo is maybe precedent, but it's a good one, a precedent for which should think all the states that doesn't
respect their own citizens. A precedent that will make to think twice those undemocratic states when it comes to the human rights and to the violations with those rights. As we learned once upon a time in our schools, human factor is most important one. I guess we didn't took that seriouse this lesson, ain't we?

Of course the chezchs and slovaks are not so keen on recognizing illegal land theft. They remember how the Germans were allowed to steal the Sudetenland in 1938, all for the sake of "stability" in Europe, we all know that Hitler wasn't satisfied very long with the Sudetenland. I wonder if the albanians will be satisfied with Kosovo or is this just the beginning?

Exactly, there is no unique case and everyone clearly see it. I just hope that Czech and Slovakia won’t succumb under the pressure of the rest of the EU members. Czechs should know the best what does it mean and how dangerous it might be for the stability, not only the region but for Europe as well. Let’s hope the common sense will prevail in the leaders of these two countries.
