Peggy,
Do you actually read the comments before you reply to them?
Can you please let me know at which point did I say that the Serbia will crumble because of the loos of the Kosovo Market?
If you read only the first sentence you would see that.
If Serbia can find other markets, well good luck to them.
I am afraid you will find that other markets are already taken.
And yes, 5*200 Millions = 1 Billion.

Peggy

Blero I am shocked at your stupidity. You just keep adding that 200 over and over and over until you reach some ridiculous figure that will crumble Serbia.

Don't you think that what ever Serbia lacks in export to Kosovo, Serbia will make up somewhere else?
Do you honestly believe that Kosovo is the only place on earth where Serbia can trade that little bit extra?

Seriba is a sovereign country free to trade with anyone she chooses. Do you have the same privileges?

Ahmed,
Kosovo's status is not resolved according to the UNSC, so those foreign investments you speak of won't be coming from international organizations. It's true that the EU wouldn't like to have a failed state on their doorstep, but the last thing they will do to remedy that is let the failed state join.

For those saying that trade cuts will hurt Serbia more than Kosovo, who are you kidding? Kosovo will substitute that trade through Albania and Macedonia? Those countries cannot even support their own citizens, you expect them to drop everything and come to your rescue? Good luck with that, you'll need it.

I'm amused at the bravado K. ALbanians display on this website daily.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear from K.Albanians that they are now a superpower ready for action against Belgrade and Russia simultaniously.

Let's be honest, K. Albanians will be forever under the dominion of others. Rest assured, whether in this lifetime or the next, Serbia will return to it's homeland of Kosovo. This illegal terrorist state will not last.

I agree that the Serbian economy will not crumble because of the los of Kosovo market.
It will be however USD 200 millions short at the end of the year (and the next year, and the one after…..).
In this time of fierce market economy the goods that used to be imported from Serbia will be soon replaced by other sources.
So there will not be visible shortages of any products in Kosovo.
Now let us see who will be the looser.
Though you might say that USD 200 millions is not a lot, I would disagree.
This is USD 200 millions a year, UDS 1 billion in 5 years.
If Serbia thinks that they can afford to give that market to others, good luck.
Kosovo will get the products from markets that do not link business with politics.
Albania and Macedonia can benefit from this and they deserve it.

Also, just to re-iterate KS’s comment:

B92: The only "province" that Serbia has is Vojvodina. If you are not sure, please just use “Kosovo”.

Since the status of Kosova has been resolved it follows that foreign investments will be forthcoming. The EU and NATO simply cannot afford to have a failed state in their doorstep and they will make everything possible for Kosova to be a success story.Solana has already told Thaci that Kosova will be an EU member in the near future.

Serbia exports 2.1% of its products to Kosovo Province.

Kosovo Province imports 70% of its goods from Serbia Proper.

How is the Serbian economy going to crumble?

Maybe trade has fallen because Kosovo is still not finished printing their new currency. Once this new currency is released, trading will resume with a C.O.D. stipulation. Or maybe trading has declined because EULEX, NATO, and the NBA are standing in the way of the traders. Don't forget that some of those NBA players are very tall and the traders are not able to see who they are trading with. Or maybe trading has not subsided and somebody put the decimal point in the wrong place. Finally, as they say in business

Odi: The only people who lose from an embargo is the Serbs. Most of the stuff goes to those enclaves the other 40-50% to the Kosovars. If you don't send say necessities such as Salt or Flour, we will gladly and speedily replace it with other countries in CEFTA (Albania or Macedonia). Last point, some of these Serbian companies barely survive from the Kosovar market, they might shut down. Think about that.

Odi & Doni,

If this trade falls to zero, Central Serbia's exports are down 2.1%. No big deal and easily substituted. On the other hand Kosovo will experience shortages.

And don't expect your sponsors in the US and NATO to bail you out. They have shown by their adventures in Iraq and Afghanistan that they couldn't organise a booze-up in a brewery.

Lazar

Doni, how do you mean that Serbia's economy will crumble without Kosovo? I hate to say this, but that is one of the most stupidest things that I have ever heard. Kosovo has only held Serbia back, and as we can see Serbia's economy has been increasing even though it does not have control of Kosmet, while at the same time Kosmet's economy has remained on the level of the third world. Economically, Serbia does not lose with not having Kosmet. It is not Serbia who has no economy, it is Kosmet that has no economy. Condeleza rice even said so, though this is kinda wrong. The fact is that Kosmet does not produce anything. It does not have enough electricity. It's unemployment is 50%. Some 45% of the population live on 1.5 euros a day or less. It's worse than Africa. And with this one dares say that Serbia will be doomed without it? Heck, in economic senses Serbia is blessed by losing this dirtpoor doomed land. However, we have our churches and some resources - which are not being extracted right now - and because of that we will not give it up ever.

Doni

let's cut also this 50% and finish up business with serbia forever, and then see how their economy will crumble,, without Kosova, serbia has no economy and will be in debt.

odi

Even better, i hope it drops at its lowest point, then we start looking toward Albania and give them 200 mio euros instead of giving it to Serbia!
