Low level of communication with embassies

Most countries that have recognized Kosovo's secession do not have full communication with the Serbian officials.

Ment,

“… France has no reason to worry about any 'stans' in Europe.”

? Corsica, Basks, fast growing North African minority? Does flames in Parisian suburbs develop by spontaneous combustion?

I love it how you watered this one down.

So let's rephrase shall we?

"...A country that lost part of its territory due to gross mistreatment of an ethnic group that lived there."

France has no reason to worry about any 'stans' in Europe.

Sonja Liht? Of which foundation? The Foundation for the promotion of outstanding achievement in the field of excellence?

Please don't quote people with questionable sources of funding but no authority or popular support.

Serbia downgrading diplomatic ties with the initiators of this defining event is exceedingly civilised.

I wonder what the supporters of the Albanian political junta's illegal declaration would do if their countries were ripped apart because an ethnic/religious minority became a local majority? Could France be the first to cede its territory for the creation of a 'stan' in Europe? Why not? What would be their argument against self-determination by an African Muslim population? That the French are well known for their tolerance and humility? Or will it be another leading EU member first?

Oh yeah, they'll all calmly accept the new situation without so much as cutting off diplomatic ties with the instigators...

Who knows, the opportunity to study their behaviour may yet present itself. Just in case, I recommend any such study is conducted from afar, however. Like, from New Zealand.

"It seems to me that Serbia is heading for embargo and isolation it experienced during the 90's and we all know the results of that.
It's sad to realize how little has changed with Serbia since then considering the lost wars deprivation and cheating/deception of Serbian citizens in Kosovo.
What else needs to happen for Serbian people to realize that self-isolation is not the key.
"

OMFG i just looked at a map and i discovered an amazing thing!! Europe isnt the only continent on Earth, i know i was shocked too. Aparently 2 countries that make up 30% of the worlds population, China, and India, support Serbia over the Kosovo issue.

Could someone please explain to me why whenever any politician, historian or intellectual in serbia speaks out against milosevic-style politics and tactics, they are immediately branded as "western lackeys"? do you really want to return to the bad old days of the 90s?? very bizarre and nihilistic, to say the least.

"She said the moves could "return like a boomerang", and also drew a parallel between the situation today and the 1990s, when Serbia was isolated during the regime of Slobodan Milošević and a series of wars in the Balkans. "

Sonja Liht - with all due respect, hardly think you can compare situation today with days of Milosevic.

And given unilateral actions of US recently, why make it easier for them to deliver their ultimatums to the serbs. In their particular case, might even be sensible to close down US embassy in the short term - removes a flashpoint.

And doubt if most sensible people expect serbs to go to war against anyone, much as some in the other camp would like. Serbia is now democratic & elections are fair - as even EU monitors acknowledged recently.

Situation is not the same.

rocker:

Off yours?

You are if you believe that Serbia is heading towards 'embargo & isolation' merely because it democratically rejects K-albanian UDI, peacefully supports those serbs in Kosovo that don't accept said UDI, & makes diplomatic protests.

So far as I'm aware, just about anyone, of any nationality, is free to move about Serbia - except of course, for serbs who want to move around parts of Kosovo where K-albanian's are majority - need armed protection then.

Sure rocker, Serbia is on the brink of isolation and embargo because we don't feel like chit chatting.... ya they might have to bomb us to show them some love...

Rocke, Serbia will never be isolated again. 1999 will not be repeated because the wold has changed since then.

Serbia is in a much better position now. They are not seen as the bad guys any more. Propaganda has only worked once and I doubt it will work again. Serbia has managed to make more friends and those friends have become more powerful since 1999.

Who is going to impose an imbargo again? Will the UN go down the same road or will they be a bit more cautious this time?

So, all these low level politicians who are predicting doom and gloom for Serbia if it doesn't dance to their tune are just using scare tactics. 1999 can never be repeated again.

So I suggest they save their breath and start working on rebuilding relations with Serbia or Serbia will build relations with the majority of the world who never gave their stamp of approval to the illegal UDI.

Actually Serbia's economy did better under sanctions than it has the past 7 years. There are more unemployed and more impoverished these days.

The western "shock therapy" has put many out of work and sold Serbian firms for very undervalued prices - thereby cheating Serbs.

And with a much richer Russia opening up to Serbs - they are getting ready to cancel visas for Serbia - they will not be isolated.

These people are really whining for their own selfish reasons - to manipulate and control Serbia and promotion of their countries interests.

Serbia has done worse under their advice and meddling. Keep 'em shut out.

quite unimportant what persons like Mrs. Liht have to say, don´t you think?

Serbia has limited scope to punish those countries that “recognise” the illegal NATO/EU occupation of Kosovo.

What it must do is create a difference between friendly nations and enemy nations (enemies are those who side with the occupation of Kosovo).

Ambassadors of countries that the support the occupation should be kept isolation; they should not be invited to any State events and should have no contact with state officials.

Lower ranking embassy staff of those countries should access government Ministries through the back door and meet only with even lower ranking Serbian officials.

These are symbolic actions, but it will have an impact on the occupiers and their supporters.

""At the moment, as you know, we are not allowed to meet with the government's high officials, and this goes for the ambassador as well. We regret this decision because we believe it is particularly important to, in such situations when tensions are high, keep the communications channels open. We believe this is a mistake," the embassy's spokeswoman said."

Maybe she should remember who caused these tension's in the first place
