Joe,
you didn't by chance used to live in Serbia did you? I get this warm fuzzy feeling just reading your posts as if we may be long lost brothers.

Some options for DSS's slogan in the next election: "If Kosovo doesn't want to be a part of Serbia, we don't want to be a part of Europe."

Or: "We lost Kosovo, now let's lose Europe too."

Or: "DSS: For those who like to cut off their nose to spite their face."

"We will, most probably, join the EU together, Kosova and Serbia at once, so no worry for that guys. I said it earlier that Kosova and Serbia should join the EU together at once, as, if one is joined before the other one, than it will have possibility to block the entrance to the other country… so to avoid this, we will join it together…

Not sure if you understand guy. Serbs are not concerned about the easiest way to enter the EU. We are saying we will only enter if our territory is respected.

Perhaps it is time to put aside the considerable political party fighting that is happening in Serbia and let the people of Serbia make their own decision. What about a public vote with a very clear question that asks Serbian citizens if they wish to forego joining the EU, if this is the only way that they may "possibly keep Kosovo", understanding that there are no guarantees in life.

it would appear that the eu is snake oil for what the eu sees as the balkan cavemen and cavewomen of various ethnicities :)
a magic wand that will solve all their problems. huge salaries, you know :) like the bulgarians have :)
of course if someone explained to them that they would actually have to work 9 to 5 and only take 30 minute lunch breaks, and have their standard of living increased maybe after 15 years of this, i think they would cool on the idea :)
i was a eu supporter for as long as i thought it was based on standards, rule of law, democracy, transparency, something i dont have in serbia as much as i'd like. and i strongly believe that economic status, the only thing anyone else in this country seems to be really interested in when it comes to the eu, can only come through standards.
but then i learned that the eu is like a huge milosevic administration, bullying its way around and shamelessly bending or ignoring the rules to suit its agenda.
and this is where i lost all interest in the eu :)
and i salute croats and anyone else in the region who does the same
this political monster will anyway be cut back to its normal economic community size sooner than anyone thinks.

"Come on Tadic stand up for Serbia and let the EU know that Serbia as a WHOLE wants EU membership "

The E.U. is aware of our stance, but as much as it pains me to say, Kosovo is an independend state and nothing we can do to undo that fact.

We have no other option then to enter the E.U. without Kosovo. The president also has an obligation to do what's best for his nation, and hanging on to things we can't get back while making matters even worse is not an option.

Ok, it seems that Mr. Kostunica wants new elections. Probably the radicals will win them. But what will happen in a few years when the people realize that zhey didn`t get Kosovo, but their life is harder then before? Well, serbs must know what they are doing!

"As for speculation that the DS is mulling calling a referendum on joining the EU, she described it as "calculation, at this point". "

- why would DS even contemplate a referendum on joining the EU when there is not even an invitation of membership - surely it is more important that the EU clearly and unequivocally understands it is ALL of Serbia or not at all!!! Come on Tadic stand up for Serbia and let the EU know that Serbia as a WHOLE wants EU membership but it does not want to be party to its own dismemberment - as President this is your obligation to the WHOLE of the Serbian populace!!!

He added that neither his party nor the SRS "essentially objects to Serbia's entry into the EU". But they wish to have guarantees that "Serbia will join the EU only with Kosovo".
--

There is no other option unless they want to exchange Kosovo for an EU carrot.
