When you think about it, the whole problem could have been avoided, if Serbia's politicians were keen in joining EU.
But Serbia's politicians considered Mladic's safe more important than Kosova. If war criminals were delivered to Hague early on, Serbia had 9 years to work towards EU integration. Probably if Serbia had been an EU country, Kosova's split would have been under different theory, and autonomy would have been an acceptable solution for K-Albanians.
Or even if Serbia were close to joining EU, like Croatia, the issue could have been postponed few more years until it became a true EU member. Serbia hasn't singed SAA yet, the only country in the Balkans that hasn't done so. Serbia is nowhere near any solution.
With Serbia refusing stubbornly everything and every time there is no stability and security guarantee. With Serbia objecting on and on, there is not justification for K-Albanians to remain part of Serbia.
Whether Kosova will enter EU soon or not, that is a different story, but at least K-Albanians don't have their hands tied to work towards this goal.
