Wait wait wait.

I thought that Kosovo Albanians were all European ready for independence, passionate about multiculturalism ...etc etc etc.

I thought they had legal and democratic system in place?

So...why are there 60 000 foreign soldiers in Kosovo?

Oh thats right...

60 000 troops in Kosovo over night? HAHAHAH! This is clearly a error. NATO can't squeeze another 1000 troops from its members for Afghanistan. Germany only sent another 500 troops to the province, who sent the rest?

Yes indeed KS it is the most secured in the world which is why old army reservists are walking right past that "secured border" not to mention those fire proof border posts eh?

Peggy you're just comparing apples with oranges. Don't you know that an independent Kosova will also have a Kosovar military that will defend itself against the threat of Serbian invasion, along with our EU/NATO and American partners.

According IHT, published on December 7, 2007:

"NATO has about 16,500 troops on the ground, slightly fewer than it had during the out-of-control riots in March 2004"

http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/12/07/europe/kosovo.php

Other sources seem to agree with it:

http://www.wieninternational.at/en/node/2837
"A NATO contingent of around 16,500 troops would remain in Kosovo until at least 2008"

The 60000 number was probably told to GWB to make him happy. It's a bogus number and given NATO's other tasks elsewhere very unlikely. As some of you maybe know, not the Kosovo-conflict is the focus right now, there are bigger problems elsewhere.

KS, 20,000 is a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things.

They can be pulled back any time necessary. How many troops in Iraq and still no victory?

How many troops were in Vietnam and still no victory? Over 50,000 dead let alone how many were deployed.

Let's not get too excited about the 20,000.

Why do we need 60000 NATO troops to protect 40000 Serbian Citizens in Kosovo from 1.7 million illegal Albanians.
Let the Serbian Army take care of our citizens and this time without any Foreign Intervention.

KS

Yes they did, there is a reason why PM Hashim Thaçi keeps repeating that the Kosova-Serbia border is the best secured in the world. Over 20,000 NATO troops are keeping an eye on it.

Did they quadruple the NATO forces in Kosovo overnight?
