miri -- amen to your comment!! you guys had the "craziest commie in creation" (don't censor me for that, b92, you know i'm right!) and in blgd, well, look who they have, i needn't put too fine a point upon that.

isolation is an ugly thing; take, for example, north korea

THEY want a normal life, a chance to travel, raise a family, whatever. time for the hate fest is really over guys and gals -- it is time to move on. those leaders you have are not looking out for your best interests; they're looking out for THEIR best interests, at least in the short run. you need to take a deep collective breath, and do what is right, and make a clean break with this nationalist downward spiral...

Let's cool. Kustunica has his right to express himself. But, I wonder what he would tell you all after Serbia and Republic of Kosova establish their diplomatic ties, with both countries having their embassies...
I am curious what you all folks would have to say?

Thank you

Miri,

"…..isolation…”
We don’t want isolation. We are for a fair cooperation in mutual interest with everybody of good will. We also love our freedom which we achieved at an enormous price. We are not going to give it away. US and friends proved to be our enemies. They pushed us around long enough. World is big place. We will cooperate with anyone who treats us fairly and respect our interests as well. There are few countries who are our traditional allies, based on cultural and religious connections. We will always have good relations with them, no meter what. (Russia, Greece, Cyprus, Romania…). Further away from home, I’m sure we could build up friendly and profitable relations with a lot of countries through the world. In YU times we had very friendly relations with many countries of the Non – Alignment movement. Some of them have a lot to offer, like India and Venezuela.
EU and US are not only option.

“….Once again, as many times in a past and in history, leaders and politicians of Serbia are proving that they are unimproved nationalists, chauvinists and warmongers….”
When was that? Through the most of the history, Serbs fought desperate defensive wars against all odds. Wars for pure survival, against, typically, many times stronger enemy. Only in the middle ages Serbs waged offensive wars as well, but that was the way of the time, nobles were more or less constantly in the war against each other.

Princip, when will you ever get it that talking, international courts, and demonstrations are useless. Look at the US, they will use military and any other resource to achieve their illegal objectives, they do not care. Serbia can do all of the above but in the end, nothing will be accomplished. Anything short of a military campaign with Russia, and you can kiss Kosovo good-bye, because you cannot compromise with someone bigger than you who does not want to listen at all!!

To smile and to the likes of him.

"smile", you actually should take some "isolation" lessons from Albanians. Albanians are the "professors" of isolation. We have isolated ourselves for half century during cold war. We tried every possible way to isolate ourselves. We used all our human capital, all our monetary funds, superstructure, economy, politics, you name it, with three goals in mind. "Isolate", "Isolate" and again "Isolate". Believe me, we know everything about isolation. It's an ugly thing. If you think you know anything about it, you ain't seen nothing yet.

Oh, don't worry, I am not trying to save your skin, but since we are hooked up into this forum, I can't help but identify your Mr. Kostunica with our losers that governed Albania for 50 years and achieved nothing at the end except isolation. We have tasted a lot of this venom, and at the end we all got sick of it. After the while you will feel sick too.

Kostunica is doomed to go down. His is at the dusk of his career. It's completely irrelevant if he feels what he says (Again that's what we heard for half of century from our party burocrats). Kostunica will go down in history as the man who lost Kosova, not Tadic, not Nikolic but Kostunica.

Indeed - the only two ways for a state to be independent are:
- UN Security Council Resolution
- Or bilateral agreement of both sides.
This is an international law. And it's in direct confrontation with all the proclamations have done by US and some of the EU members. Avoiding international law is demonstration of having double standards within international politics and affairs. Or - having showing that the international law is not the institution to appeal to. In this case, for example, any violence, that may take a place wherever in the world - becomes fully legal.
But its nonsense.
Two facts are obvious - there will be no two-sided agreement. (And Serbs have their own valuable causes.)
And that the only way to leave all the situation in the legal field - is to raise the question of Kosovo independence at the UNSC.
Of course, Russia will use its right of veto. But this is the point. The very idea of UN Security Council is to workout the world's stability and security. And the judges are the most influential world countries. And if any state within this institution has very strong complaints, then until this issue is negotiated accepting any side is putting the whole world into potential instability. And the veto right is used to sign that there are still a lot of to discuss.
By the way - according to UNSC resolution 1244:
"taking to... account of the Rambouillet accords and the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the other countries of the region...."
That was the official position of UN and EU member states.

P.S. Addressing to students and encouraging them support its own State - is normal practice in every country. US is a great example for those, who expresses deep feelings to this state.

This guy is nothing but a demagogue, not even a good one if you ask me. Belgrade shopkeepers have grounds to sue him on two counts.
One, encouraging violation of private property, and second, having to listen to a speech he could not remember.
Nine years of prior notice and he was still reading each and every sentence like he couldn’t trust himself to say the right thing. He would have had all the time in the world to learn a whole book by heart let alone the emotional call to his nation. But hey no, halve-truths are not that easy to remember are they. Mind you we wouldn’t accept anything less from an experienced lawyer nowadays.

“ The whole country is proud of you and supports you with great excitement.”

I don’t think so Mr. Kostunica. The support is falling within demonstrators never mind the Serbs from Serbia proper that are sick of your rhetoric.

"Serbia has not, and never will, sign any unworthy paper that will hand over Kosovo and Metohija," he continued.

You will not be for very long heading your government so don’t you worry. Also, handing over is the wrong term, it should be accepting the Independent Kosovo.

"During this huge and difficult temptation, the Serb people has shown the strength and dignity of a great nation, which knows that justice, legality and freedom mean," Koštunica added.

You have no right to talk in the name of the entire nation especially when you don’t have the majority of the votes and your popularity is lower than ever.

"It is possible that America, with its great power haughtiness, thought that the Serb people are weak and to be pushed around. But in time, they will realize the greatness of Serbia as she fights for justice and legality," Koštunica warned.

Serbs nation is a great nation but Mr.Kostunica you are playing with fire here. Serb nation can also punish like they did in the past.

"Each day, Serbia will, step by step, keep winning in this struggle, and it the end she will prevail. Because Kosovo is Serbia, this is how it has been, this is how it will be. You are, my dear friends, today setting a direction for Serbia, and we will follow," the prime minister concluded in his message to the Kosovo Serb students.

I dont understand your supporters...indeed you shouldn't be supported anymore...As far as I can uunderstand you are aiming to leave Serbia forever outside EU. As it is appearing in 30 years time Europe will have only 2 (super) states : the EU and Serbia :)...

Good luck.

he's a clever politician, ie, he speaks what is on every serbs' mind
and whats better he says it like he believes it, and even i have come to appreciate that his chair is not all he's after, i believe he really means it, thumbs up. there are much easier ways to hang on to office, such as toeing dishonorable and despicable lines, as some politicians are doing. well they will be able to continue in opposition, why not.
ok maybe not every last serb thinks and feels this, there's a small, but vocal, self-hating minority here gathered around ldp and several media houses under ldp control.
it makes no difference though
either dss or srs will gain, ds is losing
i hope its dss that gains, but i'm not sure, just judging by the mood of the people around me who voted for tadic in what seems like 100 years ago now

What is so wrong with this Kostunica! What I read when he says something is properly communistic-Bolshevisms parade. You can not play with this parade,if you want to win something back. This kind of populists demagogy is for a ignorant people, not someone like Serbian people Put him back somewhere. The Serbs do not need this things.Where is the Serb`s elite ?Still sleeping? How can you be O.K with this kind of politician? This pale politic has past decades ago .We wont clever people to lead the Serbs not secondary school pupil.God bless the cleverest one!

Yes Princip, it seems that time is running out. Maybe that’s the reason why are they in such a hurry.

Mountie, Dane & Olf,

let me assure you the illegal action has just increased our resolve...

For those who may mock and believe this is a fait acompli take note of the saying by the Great british Statesman at the height of the struggle during the Second World War in Novemeber 1942;

Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.
Sir Winston Churchill,

- one can only assume that Nazi's at the time would have mocked his words too but time told a different story!!!

What is more is the US would rather have their troops utilised elsewhere in the near future and one can only speculate how they will fund any of their failed foreign escapades beyond the next finacial year!

Oh what a tangled web we weave and how easily some are deceived...

I would rather Serbia not become Europes. First they bomb our capital, kill our citizens, steal a part of our country and now expect us to bow down, join EU, give them free trade, and agree with all policys. I would expect Serbs to have more self respect. Il take Russia and China over the US and EU any day.

What next, the chalk speaking on behalf of the cheese.

miri, i am only hoping it will be kostunica, for all our sakes. i am no fan of his. but if it isn't him, it will be nikolic, trust me on this. remember tadic's slim margine recently? its melted long since. and considering the topic at hand, and turnout that goes with it, radicals in a general election could well get that 50% plus one vote they talk about for years. i dont know if you've read the constitution but tadics position as president when he has no control or even influence in the government is practically nothing.
as for isolaton, there will be none. we have a growing economy and are in the words of scheffe the nato guy, key player in the balkans. its just that we will politically side with ruskies. no offence, but europe could afford to have albania in isolation forever. not so with serbia. as you well know. we sneeze, the rest of the balkans gets severe temperature, muscle pain and headache.

Stevan

Dane

“….Once again, as many times in a past and in history, leaders and politicians of Serbia are proving that they are unimproved nationalists, chauvinists and warmongers….”
When was that? Through the most of the history, Serbs fought desperate defensive wars against all odds. Wars for pure survival, against, typically, many times stronger enemy. Only in the middle ages Serbs waged offensive wars as well, but that was the way of the time, nobles were more or less constantly in the war against each other.

Let's cool. Kustunica has his right to express himself. But, I wonder what he would tell you all after Serbia and Republic of Kosova establish their diplomatic ties, with both countries having their embassies...
I am curious what you all folks would have to say?

Thank you

miri -- amen to your comment!! you guys had the "craziest commie in creation" (don't censor me for that, b92, you know i'm right!) and in blgd, well, look who they have, i needn't put too fine a point upon that.

isolation is an ugly thing; take, for example, north korea
(deliberate-starvation capital) -- belaruss... i think i've made my point. i don't believe that most serbs want such international isolation, despite what the ultra's claim. not the ones i know.

Exactly Nial. If you, Tom, Kate, Pricnip ect that are 1000s of miles away from Kosova can talk about it why not people that live in Kosova and are dealing with these issues day in day out.
