The Serbian leaders should forget everything but the two main goals i.e. restoring the K & M status quo and European integration.

They also should openly declare that their plannings from now on are matters of national security. So they don't have to inform the enemies of how the Serbs are going to act.

One more remark concerns Russia's attitude towards European integration of Serbia. There's no choice EITHER RUSSIA OR THE EU !!! We are interested to have such a friendly nation as the Serbs are inside the EU.

Thus I believe that Serbian national idea is to be composite of 3 items : European integration plus strategic partnership with Russia and an acceptable compromise over Kosovo and Methohija. This 3 points should be legalized at a referendum to strengten the Serbian Government's positions.

So what exactly are they saying will be done about the security situation and making sure it doesn't happen again, other than people not being allowed to wear uniforms?

As a Brit due to visit with a family in March, I'm not sure if I should cancel!

Are Brits getting a hrad time from people in Belgrade?

I can see Ronald in the entry gate of the EU deciding who can enter and to whom the entrance will be denied... lol

Ronald the creation of the EU was/is a painful and long process, therefore no one is going to leave EU because western Balkans will become member. As a matter a fact you have only Romania (a Balkan country) who exceeds by number of population all 3 western Balkan countries mentioned by Joe, who almost surely will be NATO member this April, a front door to EU (and you can add Serbia too, the result will be the same you already have more Balkanians with Romania in, than with the entire western Balkans- but yet no one left EU).

After all Ronald what you say speaks about your chauvinism rather then the EU policy who is based in the patterns of inclusion not exclusion.

I guess you are confusing EU values with your Pim Fortuyn's List (LPF), Liveable Netherlands, and your preferred "europeist" Mat Herben blindly following the Freedom party (FPO)
of Jörg Haider.

Reasons not to join EU:

-Serbia should not become Western Europes pet like Slovenia and Cezh republic. Britain, Germany, France, make all the decision while everyone else in EU is forced to accept it. Small countries have no say or influence in any decisions.

- Chinas economy will surpase the US in 15-20 years, so Serbia has a chance to get in good with China now, instead of in 20 years when all of Europe will be throwing themselves at China to sign trade agreements and invest.

- Russia will build a large oil storage facility and 400 km of south stream pipeline in northern Serbia, which will lower oil prices for Serbian citizens and also Gazprom plans to invest another 500 mil in NIS modernization and infastructure. The EU has done nothing major to help Serbia

-The EU will soon become the European Federation, maybe in 20 years or so. Free trade, free travel, the lisbon treaty, the "kosovo misison", the EU will soon turn into a country in itself.

West: European nations that resent Serbia, stereotypically blame Serbia for the wars, have done nothing to invest in Serbia, the US complains Serbian government hasnt caught mladic, meanwhile the US after 7 years still havent found Osama bin laden, when they have thousands of troops in Afghanistan, and he is considered "the most wanted man" on earth.

East: India, China, Russia, a HUGE market for Serbian products, Russia has already made a big investment in Serbia via the south stream pipeline.

The EU will do more harm then good. I hope Serbia dosent join, we will remain a country, instead of just another "state in the European Union"

Look at this again:

The U.S. State Department stated that Kosovo will "never be a part of Serbia again"

How they dare? Wait a second. U.S.A. did recognize Kosovo. I disagree with it. It is not legal from the point of view of U.N. either - but forget it for the moment.

From the point of view of the U.S. State Department Kosovo is an independent country, like, say, New Zealand. How they dare to instruct an independent country what they will do? What if Kosovo decides to be part of New Zealand? It's not of the business of U.S.A. - unless they think, Kosovo is their colony.

Here we are again at my "favorite" topic: Camp Bondsteel, Halliburton, Cheney/Bush/Clinton family clans economic involvement in Halliburton and political involvement in Kosovo.

I cannot make head nor tail of this article. We are told that the Prime Minister was concerned about misinformation and decided to issue a statement, and then .......nothing, except "sources" saying this and that. Where is the statement or even excerpts from it? Please help B92.

How ridiculous is for some Serbs who live in the EU countries (like Princip) to comment against EU. I wonder why do you live in the UK Princip? Why don’t you go to Russia if you like Russians so much and you think you have any future with them? I guess you can move to Siberia and forget about EU, and we live happy ever after...

Rupel must be in cloud cuckoo land if he really means what he suggests regarding Serbia signing the agreement upon agreement of SAA. (Princip, UK, 26 February 2008 12:15)

Its preposterous, it's not even the actual SAA agreement , but a sub-agreement under the SAA? How ridiculous.

The Serbs would not even sign a EU partnership program at this point intime.

Rupel leadership and comments is beyond my comprehension and distancing many countries in Europe including Slovenia itself.

Jeremic: "Our idea is, after it is clear that there can be no confirmation of the international sovereignty of the so-called state of Kosovo, for there to be no other solution for the international community but to return to the negotiating table."

Serbia has had a century to build a serbian Kosova. And now, Jeremic idea is really dumb. Good luck with that!!

Ronald,

As an American I don't care too much if the EU is growing or collapsing. I have some real estate (2 houses in the EU as an investment). That would hardly be affected.
Holland, Germany, France leaving the EU? I think some French contamplated it but realized that it would be extremely complicated (because of all those interconnections). Besides all those 3 countries greatly profit as members. Why would they ever do it? I think you are stuck together.

Niether off youre mentioned country's are gonna be in the EU, there is simply NO way that the current EU members will allow this because theire citicens don't want it.

So keep on dreaming off an Balkan in the EU, it's not gonna happan, and if it does happen, the richest EU members like the Netherlands (second biggest contributor), Germany, France will leave the EU.

Serbia is on an elliptic orbit around the EU. Until February 17 she was the closest ever to the EU. Now she is going out very, very far. Maybe in few years she is getting a second chance on this same orbit to approach the EU. In the mean time Croatia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Albania will become members.

Princip, UK

Rupel must be in cloud cuckoo land if he really means what he suggests regarding Serbia signing the agreement upon agreement of SAA. Does he really expect Serbia to not send such signals when the EU counternance the setting up of INLUX (Lawless) mission? Hopefully he can comprehend the clear words by Jeremic;

“today, unfortunately, a step further from the EU than it was on February 17."

If he still can't get it then I guess the Slovenian citizens must start questioning the economic future of their country with such people at the helm of governance!
