KS,

400 Austrian companies to invest in Kosovo? Wow, then almost everybody in Kosovo must have an university degree in computer science. Kosovo will soon become Europe's Silicon Valley! Get real KS, most people in Kosovo are unskilled laborers. Even entrepreneurs in Austria must know that investing in Kosovo, with its weak economy, is an extremely risky business.

Indeed the country is not worth anything now (second poorest in Europe) looking at its crime, economy, unemployment and lack of social services, but I think they will pull out of it within the years to come.

The next few months will be critical though, they don't have quite as much recognition as they would have liked to have (17 with probably a similar number soon to recognize them), not to mention Serbian protests, it will still take some time before the country starts to develop itself economically.

Foreign investment won't turn Kosovo into a little America now that it has declared independence. It takes a long time and the situation is still not stable in any way, in fact.

Wait & see indeed.

Most of what Popovic had to say is correct, especially the last paragraph about crime & corruption. And given that their leader Thaci was (& perhaps still is) mixed up with drugs, smuggling et al, there's not much hope that the situation will improve anytime soon for K-albanians.

Willy Nilly:

If you don't want to buy 'serb goods', then by all means don't. Is your choice in a democratic Serbia of which you are still a part.

John:

I think you'll find that coal-fired power stations are on their way out - especially in Europe.

And am curious - K-albanians have had relative autonomy for the last 8 years - so why can't you keep the lights on now? Why is unemployment so high? Where has all the aid money gone?

johan:

Serbs in Kosovo are part of Serbia - will only be part of a pseudo-independent Kosovo in K-albanian dreams.. so enjoy your sleep :)

And just like Afghanistan, only a fraction of the real money gets to the ground. And unlike Afghanistan, the UN has been in Kosovo for a lot longer, pumping lots of money, with minimum results..

Truly, your long term economic stability needs Serbia's routes, just as much as donated money to Kosovo should (in theory), help the Southern Serbian infrastructure. This is a regional issue, so get realistic, and throw away your emotions.

You can only expect short term gains from donation states. I don't expect Kosovo to become a see of long term prosperity without Serbia.

Don't take this report personally. It's a well known fact, even amongst Western media outlets..But don't worry, as long as you have camp Bondsteel, you'll have jobs..

EA,

Kosovo independence is illegal. So people who love freedom, like we in Western Europe, should NOT buy any stuff from this area called Kosovo.

Greetings from free, rich Holland!

So coal will fuel your power station and pollute the place even more than it is already. Any international who has worked in Kosovo as I have, will tell you if they are completely honest, that Kosovo will be a bottomless pit for foreign donations because none of will ever be paid back. It will disappear like so much aid already into the back pockets of the people who really control Kosovo pimps, drug dealers and terrorists (masquerading as politicians).

Ok wait and see. The serbs of Mitrovica will be better of under Kosovo. Japan ready with 4 billion dollars and soo is the US and German lobby.

LOL what idiots does the serbian goverment think that the world is. Kosovo is a point to be made from the west and they wont fail. Just like Greece in the 1950. They will invest and in a few years you will beg to be let in and work in Kosovo as guest workers.

"The economic development of Kosovo is possible only within the frame of the constitutional and legal order of Serbia, Popović said and pointed to the fact that the economy of the southern Serbian province had always depended on Serbia proper".

"Thanks" for enlighting us here including the B92 editor) Did it take long to make that discovery?

Popovic! Sleep sound!Kosova has the 6th largest coal reserves in Europa. There will be plenty of electricity in a couple of years. In a year the highway to Durres will be ready. No need for Serbia.
