To Peter Sudyka. US bombing the Chinese embassy was a big deal. It wasn't just a building. People got killed there as a result which makes it a very big deal.
The US had to grovel to China for a while for that one. I wonder how much they will have to grovel to China this time if they dare to bomb again given that so many Chinese now live in Belgrade.

This American guy is quite funny. He says that it better not happen again but doesn't specify the consequences if it does. It's like your parent telling you not to play up again or else.

Most of the world is not on America's side of this one regardless of them constantly telling us that it is only Russia who is opposed to this independence. Most of the world is quite sick of the US dictating to the world and if America did anything in retaliation to Serbia I think this time it would be different to world reaction in 1999.

Empty threats, that's all. If they Americans don't like Serbian hospitality they can leave. Serbian representative has left America so what does this tell them? It tells them that they are not welcome and when you are not welcome somewhere you should have the decency to leave.

Mike is right here, the US cannot possibly expect that the Serbs will accept their decision, especially not right after the recognition.

Indeed, hooligans damaging the embassy is unacceptable, but it is understandable.

Joe (Hungarian one)

US bombers hit the Chinese embassy in Belgrade as well. It's just a building, not need to make such a big deal of it. After about a month this violence will be over.

While I appreciate the tenor of your thoughts & agree with your conclusions, equating the attack on the embassies (& principally the US embassy) with the 2004 riots by the K-albanians against the serbs in Kosovo isn't really justified.

The attack on the embassies was by a hundred or so drunken yobo's. And contrary to what the US says, was probably not orchestrated by higher authorities - although Kostunica certainly fired them up.

As for the police response time of 45 minutes, in my view, that's sounds about right, given the hundreds of thousands of peaceful protestors that needed shepparding elsewhere, as well as the time needed to organise a big enough force to repel the hooligans, without having to resort to deadly force.

On the other hand, the 2004 riots in Kosovo by the K-albanians were province-wide & near simultaneous - which is a pretty good indicator that those riots were organised. Thousands of serbs & other minorities were targeted, many died, & a couple of dozen churches & monasteries were put to the torch. And as you've stated, KFOR stood by & did nothing.

"I'm very angry at what happened," Munter said of the riots. "It had better not happen again,"

It's not our fault no one is recognising your illegal puppet quasi entity!

to the other joe (pesumably Serbian),

Yes it can become real ugly if Kostunica's so-called action plan contains things similar to the planned/executed burning of our embassy.

I may be wrong about this...but...almost everything this guy is saying is 'pre-emptive.' He is defending his security before an autopsy is completed. There are overtones of 'or else' everywhere. He is condemning serbia to isolationism long before an investigation is completed. How do we know that this wasn't set up by the cia as an attempt to discredit serbia? nobody acts this way unless you are trying to justify a really ugly future action or are trying to hide a truth.

Why is US still talking at Serbia?
US has shown how friendly it is and how much it loves Serbia, by first arming the Bosnian Muslims and Croats, waging a bloody propaganda war against Serbia for the past 20 years or so, then arming KLA (known terrorist organisation) and then on top of that, it pushed for and recognized illegal and forced partition of Serbian province.

Why do Serb politicians and certain members of public think that the world equals USA. It does not. It never has and it never will.

Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt said it best -

''It is pathetic how we can go on bended knees and lick the boots of Westerners in an effort to be part of their world.''

Compared to the previous US ambassador this one seemed to be a real friend of the Serbs. Now he is deeply desappointed and angry rightfully so.

He should be ready to bunker down for a while. The us doesn't have its military in Belgrade to create a "green zone" like in Baghdad. I predict he will request a transfer soon. If the us state dept cannot find a brave replacement, I volunteer for the job. I have the sensibility to not offend my hosts and the practicality to buy and fix up the nearly collapsed buildings near the embassy that were dmaged in 1999 to foster goodwill.

I don't think the Serbs today need diplomatic relations with the US. Only if Mr.Tadich is interested in direct contacts with his "consultatnts" ...

One week has passed after spitting at the International Law in K & M but official Serbia has done NOTHING ! Lavrov was right when he said that " ... we cannot be more Serbian than the Serbs themselves !"

I hope Serbia will get the clear messege and return to peace and stability. Any other ways it will be SELFINFLICTION and even the best friend Russia will be unable to help.

I can understand the anger of US officials against their embassy, but let's get serious for a minute. For the past 8 years Kosovo has bled dry of Serbs and the US said nothing. Over 100 churches have been destroyed and the US remained silent. Nearly 1000 Serbs have been killed in reprisal attacks, and the US remains mute. Over 100,000 K Serbs remain IDPs, and the US keeps mum. Kosovo is illegally taken away and the US tells Serbia to get over it.

A bunch of idiots throw bottle rockets at the US embassy and suddenly Washington is crying bloody murder. Where was your anger before?

italy

pre 16 godina

It was abominable to watch those young people stone and burn the American and other embassies in Belgrade, they should be found and put to justice immediately. But let me tell another thing here that maybe will help understand this anomaloys situation: to me persoally the attack on embassies in Belgrade did not differ from the abominable scene when the Kosovo Albanians threw stones and burnt Serb monasteries on Kosovo territory, and when the KFOR soldiers stood there only to watch, whose authorities - when the mob finished the job - came out with comuniques of protest only, and that is how it finished. If I sat in the American Administration, I would give a more serious thinking on "why" some things happen. I said the other day that in Serbian language there is a proverb "ko drugome jamu kopa sam u nju pada" and I sincerely propose to American Adminsitration to think on this. All we need is peace, and peace can be reached when everybody, America, Serbia and Albanians sit at a table and start to negotiate how to reach it. Best regards.
