No one country ever have had to pay for EU and NATO membership by a key part of its own territory. Why Serbia? It is for the West the only available exit strategy after the failure in 1999. What will you, Serbs, do against the Kosovo independence? Demonstrate? Set on fire an embassy? Come on..
But what would K/Albanians do if they will not get what they ask for?
They are really able to start mass riots in Kosmet, Macedonia or even in western cities. They are ready to threaten KFOR, their dirty money play role in funding of US elections (they contribute more democrats but also republicans, Holbrook would be a state secretary if Hilary moves to White House). Albanian mafia is active in almost every single european town, their PR captured most of western intelectuals and journalists already 10 years ago (even now many of them fear to admit their naivity.

C: Your analysis is unrealistic. First, there is no infrastructure to foster the development of the army you propose. Do you think that bondsteel with its fat administrators eating burger king will be able to train an army?

Secondly, Kosovo, as a supposed republic, has no financial basis for such an army. What do you invest in...economic growth or some sham military in a small pocket of europe whose sole purpose is to protect Europe from the Serbs? Sounds ridiculous to me.

Next, are you suggesting that kosovo's new army be used to enforce independence in the Serb-inhabited parts of Kosovo? This sounds to me like exactly the situation that the Albanians claimed independence over: yugoslav army and police repression. If this is what you are advocating, then you are nothing more than a hypocrite, and deserve everything that is coming to you.

Jaap de Hoop Scheffer was once the leader of the christian-democratic party (CDA) in the Netherlands. During his leadership, the popularity of the CDA fell to an all-time low. And only a few years later the NATO countries made this second class politician its leader. Incredible but true!

Azir,

Considering your name I assume you are a Kosovo Albanian muslim. Are you in any way suggesting that it was a good thing that (Nazi) Germany terrorized and brutally oppressed and killed many innocent Serbs in both WWI and WWII? Because they were Serbs and because they did not wish to join the real axis of evil? These kinds of comments and thoughts make me really sick. Did Serbia ask for WWI and WWII? If you know some history you would not write your disturbing remarks. This kind of sympathy will backfire at your people sooner than later. I am surprised that B92 allows this on its site and the moderator should be more critical to remove comments that glorify past suffering (it is a bad a spreading hate messages).

If what you say is true than why is not the current state of Albania a power in anything. Where are there
Milatary ?

Economy ?
The only thing i ever hear is about how the Serbians stopped the Albanians in achieving any of their goals.

Seems pretty logical to suggest that NATO will be unwilling to extend its military mission in Kosovo indefinitely. There must be some sort of an exit strategy.

That's good news. Not just for Kosovo Albanians, but also the Balkans. The Yugoslav drama, and especially its violent destruction, was characteristic of an all too powerful Serbian military. That regional military hegemony, severally weakened by NATO and the wear-and-tear of the Yugoslav wars needs to be further checked by creating a balancing military power south of Serbia. The new army of the Republic of Kosovo will be willing to assume that role. It's not just a mere reflection of the newfound political space of Kosovars to build strong security institutions and project their stabilising power in the region. A strong Kosovo Army is a must for regional stability and in line with the wishes of the West to gradually pull out of the Balkans.

Of course, attracting the Balkan countries within the NATO fold seems the best guarantee against regional wars in the future, but to the degree possible, a regional military configuration needs to happen at some level. Kosovo's independence will act to serve that purpose.

So, to Javier Solana: a proper exit strategy rests on the acknowledgement that Kosovo has a strong army. Kosovo's constitution foresees our Intelligence Service, which in conjunction with a capable police force, special units, and our army, will be capable of withstanding Serbia's appetite to sabotage the new state of Kosovo.

I do not insist that the two mentioned Heads of the NATO ( the old and the new) are the worst people in the whole Europe.

The Serbs should not be afraid of the NATO. The times has changed and Serbia has got a good choice. It can ask for military support from Russia and start to negotiate such a treaty. It will brake Europe and stop the EU support of the Snake Government.

How is this, few quotes from the dictionaly?
Crime - "violation of legal command, or offence punishable by law".

Criminal - someone who commited the crime.

When it comes to group of crimianals coordinating their illegal actions (organized crime) it's called Mafia.

Finally; the PUPPET MASTER reveals himself! Germany, not the US will take on the "central role", Germany hid its ambitions behind NATO and now just happens to take the helm. Is this just a coincident or part of a long term plan since reunification? Why Germany, the former and now present aggressor against the Serbs? Where is the outrage? What next, will Germany protect the Jews from the Arabs? How about the fox guarding the hen house? Dark Days are ahead!

I am sorry to say this, but stability to the region can only come through a negotiated solution. The UDI has destabilized the whole Balkans in the short, and in the long run. Maybe a partition of north Kosovo can bring some calm, but I am sceptic.
