Tom, don't see who forwarded the quote, that's not who's making the argument, it's Kostunica that's making the case. Serbia still hasn't apologized to the Albanians for the genocide it perpetrated in Kosovo. Not only that, but they don't show any respect to the victims they murdered. And you say that's no case?? What more do you want?

Mr. Donoghue, if you have a problem with the british, this is not the place to take out your anger.
To others, why are you jumping the subject? What does british army actions in Irak has to do with the subject we are discussing?

This is ridiculous. Do you want me to tell you that Stalin in Russia murdered 10 million of its own people during peace time with his gulags, every time you bring Russia's point here?
The article, if you bothered to read is very un-biased. Essentially doesn't even support the independence, but it's just saying that the case for independence was made by Kostunica and his clan.
It's not britain making the case but Kostunica.

Miri,
The day that you rely on a former British diplomat to support your case is the day that you admit you don't have one.

I can add an other link - in Hungarian - from one of the most respected Hungarian publications, HVG

http://hvg.hu/vilag/20080222_koszovo_fuggetlen_szerb.aspx

In short: HVG gives a DEVASTATING analysis about Albanian and certain European and North American stance.
Bravo HVG, this is finally a honest article from Hungary. Too bad, it's in Hungarian, but please B92, publish this link, hope some here can read it.

I think he said that before his country invaded Iraq and was partly responsible for the death of 1 million people.

Even before he realised British troops were executing Iraqis http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7258374.stm

I think they need to swallow their own medicine before offering it to others!

Back came the appalling answer. "There are many mass graves in and around Belgrade from World War II -- what difference does another one make?"

And this was in 2003, even before the events of 2004.

miri,
good post but can you honestly say that you're shocked by it?

Here is an unbiased article from the british ambassador to Belgrade Charles Crawford 2001-2003.

An excellent analysis on Serbia's K-Albanians relationship.

I just wanted to draw attention on the following paragraph from the article.

"When, for example, a truck containing the bodies of Albanians massacred by Milosevic's forces was found in the Danube, I urged Kostunica's closest team to aim to win international praise by doing something such as organizing a decent high-profile ceremony in their honor and sending personal messages to all their relatives. I tried to get through to them that some sort of civilized European, human gesture would be right in itself, plus a strong sign that post-Milosevic Serbia understood the way international opinion was formed and wanted to be a nimble part of it.

Back came the appalling answer. "There are many mass graves in and around Belgrade from World War II -- what difference does another one make?"

RE: What was the US waiting for, an invitation? Good riddance.

Normally a country will recall their ambassasor immediately if the another countries Ambassador has been recalled.

Did they not take the hint that the illegal invasion of Kosovo would be met with resistance?

Don't think the Serbs have forgotten over 1000 civilians, Serbs, Albanians, Romas and all ethnicities who were bombed unmercifally for 90 days let by US and NATO again without UN resolution in 1999.

This time Russia does not idly stand bye.

of course they can, Mr.Harris...what a question!

but can the whole world trust in the USA following international law, the UN-Charter and basic legal principles?

I think that everyone knows the answer...
